Recalled wing-back Fabian Wilnis says he wants to stay at Town and fight for his place and is willing to bury the hatchet with Town manager George Burley. TWTD also understands that Wilnis and another unnamed Town player were targeted by Bristol City last week.

The Dutchman returned to the Town side in place of Chris Makin at Leeds on Wednesday and was one of the Blues' better players. Up until then Wilnis had been consistently on the sidelines since reacting angrily to being substituted before half-time in the away match at Helsingborg.

A subsequent meeting between Burley and Wilnis went badly and soon afterwards he was training with the reserves. Wilnis was also left out of the party travelling to Cyprus for the training camp and was told last week that he could leave on a free transfer.

The Dutchman says it has been a tricky period for him, but that he is willing to let forgive and forget: "It has been a difficult time, there is no doubt about that. But I'm not the sort of person who holds grudges with anyone. I have no problem with the manager or the club at all.

"In fact, I'm very proud to play for Ipswich Town. Despite everything I'm still happy at Ipswich Town. I just want to get over this and see what happens.

"The manager has a very difficult job to do; he has to make difficult decisions. For example, leaving Marcus Bent out on Wednesday could not have been easy — I certainly would not want to do it."

Wilnis still says he will look into any offers which come in for him and TWTD understands that Bristol City were interested in taking him and another player to Ashton Gate last week, a move eventually blocked by George Burley when Chris Makin suffered his injury.

But, Wilnis is just pleased to be back involved in the first team after time spent training with the reserves and youths. The 31-year-old was also pleased with the reception he got from Town fans at Elland Road: "I want to thank the fans for the reception they gave me at Leeds. It really meant a lot. I'm glad they remembered me. They were right behind me and it gave me a great lift."
