Milton Shortlisted for Award
Tuesday, 10th Nov 2015 18:23

Academy sponsorship director and former midfielder Simon Milton has been shortlisted for the Player Impact Award at Coaching for Hope’s Football For Good Awards.

The Football For Good Awards website outlines what Player Impact category is all about: “This award recognises a player who has played a significant part in raising awareness of a relevant issue in their community, either in the UK or internationally.

“This player will have gone above and beyond what is expected and given their time freely, or given their name to a charity, foundation or cause, which has benefited from their involvement.”

Milton, 52, is shortlisted for his work on this summer’s London to Amsterdam Cycle Challenge.

“He recruited and led a team of 70 cyclists to raise over £85,000 for the Cancer Charity and in excess of £55,000 for the club’s academy.

“Simon has also used his position to support Prostate Cancer UK’s Men United campaign by raising awareness of Prostate Cancer, encouraging men to undergo prostate checks and raising funds to assist research and treatment.”

Also nominated for the award are former England striker Alan Shearer, ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher and Southend keeper Dan Bentley.

The Football For Good Awards ceremony will be hosted by Sky Sports’ Ed Chamberlin at the Old Billingsgate Vaults in London on December 2nd.

Team ITFC’s 2016 London to Amsterdam Cycle Challenge - which will celebrate the 35th anniversary of Town’s UEFA Cup win - is already recruiting with Milton hoping to have more than 100 cyclists taking part.

Well done 'Milts', for your tireless endeavour in football, coming from and giving to the 'roots' Thetford Town, Bury Town and then Ipswich Town, you are a fine ambassador for our club and your nomination is well deserved.
