Town Unchanged Again Against Derby
Saturday, 19th Dec 2015 14:33

Town boss Mick McCarthy has named an unchanged XI for the fifth successive game for this afternoon’s match against third-placed Derby County.

Luke Varney, who signed a contract to the end of the season yesterday, is on the bench replacing Jonny Parr, who misses out having picked up a knock. Former Blue Darren Bent is amongst the subs for the Rams.

Town: Gerken, Chambers (c), Smith, Berra, Knudsen, Skuse, Douglas, Maitland-Niles, Sears, Pitman, Murphy. Subs: Bialkowski, Malarczyk, Coke, Oar, Bru, Fraser, Varney.

Derby: Grant, Christie, Keogh, Martin (c), Russell, Shackell, Johnson, Butterfield, Ince, Thorne, Warnock. Subs: Mitchell, Hendrick, Bent, Baird, Pearce, Weimann, Shotton. Referee: Keith Hill (Hertfordshire).

I would have probably been happy with a draw today as we are up against a genuinely good side here ( I know Mick likes to suggest that regardless of who we're playing) with a particularly strong bench. But, with the result last night & Brighton losing the unbeaten record earlier, I know see this as a great opportunity for us to both put a bit of daylight between us and those outside the top 6, while also showing that we are a side with real prospects of being in the fight for a top 2 spot at the end of the season. That could help to persuade ME & MMcC to spend on a couple of players in January for that push, having suffered by not doing so last year - notwithstanding the value buy of Freddie Sears.
With that in mind, I'm going to predict a home win now. Come on Ipswich.

As I posted.Didn't think he would change, and he never surprises us or the opposition;who can set up knowing exactly what to expect.
