McCarthy Yet to Find Right Man to Add to Squad Friday, 26th Feb 2016 06:00 Town boss Mick McCarthy doesn’t expect to add to his squad before Saturday’s game at Huddersfield as he’s yet to find anyone to come in who is better than the players already in his squad.
“Not really, but I’m looking around,” he said when asked if it was likely there’d be a new addition before the weekend.
“I can always go and get somebody, but is it going to be somebody that’s going to make us better? I haven’t found that one yet.”
He says sometimes it’s the case that a target isn’t made available by their club and on other occasions a player doesn’t want to go out on loan.
“It's a bit of both. That was before in the transfer window and it’s still the same position really,” he continued.
“Maybe you can get some in, but it’s who you want and getting them in, and that’s not been the case.”
He added: “They’ve got to come in and play and be better than what we’ve got. And, I might say, we all start looking elsewhere for answers and the reality is that the answer might just have to be in-house and perhaps we’ve all got to play that little bit better, be that little bit more confident.
“How you get confident is by getting a result. I thought the first half on Tuesday was good. I’ve watched it again and I’ve no reason to think otherwise, that could have gone either way, the first half.
“It changed on the goal and they proved what a good side they were after that. But we may well have to sort it out in here without outside help or influence.”
The Town boss has been impressed with his most recent loan recruit, midfielder Ben Pringle.
“I was pleased with him, I have been in both his games,” he said. “The one thing we did get was deliveries from freekicks and corners and I thought he gave us a good balance on that side.
“And even when he went on the right-hand side before he went off he put one good delivery in that Murph got on the end of. I’m pleased with him and the more games he has the better he’ll get, I’ve no doubt.”

Can't get better than Coke? I would laugh my head off at this report if it wasn't the club that I love. He's the worst player I have seen in the last 18 years at ITFC. Pringles been good

HarryS_H you miss the point...in the Wild West Billy the kid was only 0.5 seconds faster than his rivals......it might only be the blink of an eye but they were dead while he remained alive ....if you are happy to always be just shy then it's you that should toddle off to the land of mediocrity and boredom.....there are plenty of managers on a tight budget that have the sympathy of their fans because they go out to play attractive football ....to say we can get no better in means that Mick should take a good look inwards and say why is that ...style of football and a manager that once again has proved how stubbornness is the undoing of any leader.....but as said if you are happy with it good luck....it's just the majority of us have aspirations

When Mick says he's yet to find anyone to come in who is better than the players already in his squad, what he's really saying is: "Ay, Terry, 'ow the 'ell da ya use this poncy Scouting software? I can't f't the life o me figure out ow ta use the bleedin' thing".

jas0999: spot on. There is no way he can't find better than Coke, Toure and Digby. Thank God they all move on in the Summer so we can get some decent signings in. Toure and Digby aren't Championship material and Coke is something else entirely.

At tuesday match my mate said he'd watched the Oxford v Northampton game recently and was very impressed with the style of passing football played. So why are we some 2 divisions above having to accept the boring territorial football demanded by McCarthy. He reckoned Northampton had a ball playing centre-half who was different class. Years ago we used to have a brilliant scouting system with the likes of Ron Gray bringing in players. The likes of Alan Brazil, Johnny Wark, Kevin Beattie, Paul Mariner, The Dutch guys, Terry Butcher, Russel Osman, Kieron Dyer, Richard Wright, James Scowcroft, Matt Holland, Mick Mills, Ray Crawford, Marcus Stewart. The list is endless. So if the present management cannot find the right players something is drastically wrong. Other Clubs are doing it so why arn't we?

Obviously there are better players out there, but they obviously are not available. I don't understand the constant need to bash players either. Coke has done ok when he has played. Knudson will develope in to a good player for us but people forget he is young and playing in a foreign country, but don't worry i expect the Fifa players here would go rip it up in any league in the world straight away. Imo players like toure and Coke were meant to be squad fillers. If we had of had bishop, Fraser and mcgoldrick fit for all this season I expect we would have seen a different display most of the games. All I hear is people moaning about the clubs "ambition" as if they don't have any, top 10 in the championship spending a small fortune on wages yet everyone seems to think if we spend a little bit more we would do "a lot better", maybe even get the top 10 finish 😉. If we were in charltons position id be more worried tbh. In fact we were only 3 years or so ago, whilst spending millions on players who couldn't care less.

Well lets be honest here - it is difficult to get a player in better than what we already have, for £2.50! or to try and find that 9 foot player who can pluck that hoofball out of the sky before any opposing player or an loan player who will want to listen to the drawl of McCarthy day in and day out and why he shouldn't get to carried away at keeping the ball on the deck.

So your a talented two footed young player, good passer of the ball, tactically aware, quick and comfortable in possession. Why the chuffing hell would you want to come and play McCarthy's hoofball style of playing?.

Apparently none of you lot know how to run a football club! If the money was there we could get better players but the fact is we need for which if you look at the likes of Chelsea and man city can't be bought most of the time! A good run of former from here to the end of the season could see us going up via the play offs that is a fact, we don't need to play good football we need the result's which doesn't happen with negative fans crying the whole time

@HarryS_H Quite simple you can either buy your veg at Fortnum and Mason or you can grow your own. The first takes money the second skill. Now you were saying?

Well said Harry S. Too many posters claim they know what's best, claim that MM has favourites when it is clear that he hasn't, claim that everyone other than their own favourites are rubbish and find anything to justify their rant. It's obvious we are struggling with confidence and quality in certain areas but we could have gone in at half time two up on Tuesday . It is not all bad. Yes, Evans needs to make clear the club's strategy and match it with funds but in the meantime MM is right to say that of the players available on loan there is nobody much better than what we have. Perspective please.

Bert are you for real? Mm has no favourites that's probably the best joke I've heard for ages, Berra, chambes,Knudson,Murphy,Douglas all out of form and all will play yet again tomorrow, and we will probably lose again playing boring, boring rubbish. As for we could have been 2 up at half time on Tuesday wouldn't we need to have a shot on target to score a goal? I think you need some perspective

So I get three down arrows for suggesting that an alternative to buying expensive talent is to develop your own. Amazing quite amazing.
Bert added 11:59 - Feb 27
Superblur70 clearly has a problem. The players he names as MM's so called favourites don't have obvious replacements except perhaps Foley. The alleged favourites are playing because that's all we have. As Murphy hit the post and another was cleared one metre from the line I would say that justifys a possible 2 nil lead. As always too many posters believe their own fantasies.
