Distraught Hyam’s Thoughts With Judge
Saturday, 9th Apr 2016 22:33

Town midfielder Luke Hyam says he was “distraught” after Brentford midfielder Alan Judge suffered a broken leg after he had tackled him in the early stages of the Bees’ 3-1 victory over the Blues at Portman Road.

An upset Hyam, who was booked for the challenge before being shown a second yellow card for a clash with Ryan Woods just before half-time, told the club website: “There was nothing malicious in the tackle and I hope Alan recovers quickly.

“I’ve been out injured for a year myself and the last thing I want to see is a fellow pro getting injured like that. I would never wish that on anyone.

“I feel distraught over it. It was distressing to see and definitely affected me. My head had gone.

“I know the Brentford lads were getting into me but I should never have reacted the way I did to get sent off, which was obviously disappointing on my part.

“My thoughts are with Alan though. I’d like to contact him in a day or so and just give him my best and say how sorry I am that he has got injured like that. I just hope he’s back playing as soon as possible.”

After the game, the 24-year-old joined his team-mates at the Player Awards Evening in the Sir Bobby Robson Suite.

Brentford confirmed that Judge, who had hoped to make the Republic of Ireland squad for this summer’s European Championships, had broken his leg in a statement: “During today's Sky Bet Championship game against Ipswich Town, Alan Judge sustained a fracture injury to his lower leg.

“The injury was assessed and immobilised locally and Alan has now been transferred to a London hospital where he will managed by the leading lower limb consultant in the country.

“The nature of his management and long-term prognosis cannot be speculated on at this time, however it should be stated that a full recovery is not in question.

“Alan and his family will receive our fullest support and further comment will be provided as we're able to over the coming days.”

Honestly, what manager would have taken a player off after 2 minutes that wasn't injured? Can hardly thing of any. Hindsight is a wonderful tool, yes there was always a risk but there was no sign he was going to snap sd he did, to solely blame the manager is just another excuse to blame him for something. Sorry but getting 2nd yellow for relatiation is inexcusable and the blame for that is solely with the player. That said I hope Luke learns a massive lesson and comes back stronger.
Like many on here hope Judge makes a speedy recovery

All you who think it was a good hard challenge are wearing rose coloured glasses just imagine had that tackle had happened to Freddie Sears or McGoldrick I wonder how many would say it was a hard fair tackle Hyam should never play for Ipswich again and the manager should be sacked an absolute disgrace both of them McCarthy OUT

Blueboy... seriously? i have watched it over and over again. I notice you have mark me down for youtube video, are you saying Hyams tackle had the same intent? Surely not !

We all harp on about the good old days and rightly so in my opinion, but you cant just select what you like about the good old days. Because i can tell you this, back then hard challenges were plentiful. It is regrettable and sad what happened to Judge and i am 100% sure if Hyam could go back and change that tackle he would, comparing that to the challenge of RK where he went in to finish someones career is wrong, because that is how some of you are comparing it. It wasnt evil just hard.

Finally remember this, we are all sick of the town at the moment and our plight ( well most ) I think Hyam was showing a true battle attitude, something that was regularly on show, back in day.

Sorry if my opinion is different and offends but to suggest Hyam is a Dirty Player is plain wrong, he is as honest as the day is long. He is not a great footballer thats true but he gives us a real physical presence in midfield, but again i say this, hyam is not dirty he is physical, BIG DIFFERENCE" I will also say again, i felt sick after i heard his leg crack, and i so wish him a speedy recovery!!

Good day, everyone, season for me is over, start planning for next year i say!

Bath Blue I agree we should all want us to see things being done in the Ipswich way and totally agree there is no need for bile and abuse, however regret we will never play football the Ipswich way with MM in charge. Unfortunately I don't believe Marcus Evans has any comprehension of the traditions of this club, and therefore am not confident he will make the right decision when inevitably MM is replaced. My dissatisfaction has nothing to do with results but purely style of play and entertainment on offer. We are now widely seen as the least attractive team in all of the English leagues very sad and MM mainly to blame.

I am sorry but am suspicious of McCarthy's comments about Judge before the game and his reaction afterwards, even more his expression that he likes watching Hyam's hard challenges so consider that challenge was pre-ordained as are many tackles in many games, methinks the problem lies with the player chosen to put the hard tackle in, it should have been somebody much more level headed and who has a bit of intelligence. My sincere hopes for you Mr Judge is that you make a speedy recovery and I am terribly sorry for you and for Ireland that you will miss the Euro's.

I am surprised people are suggesting an intent to harm with Hyam's tackle, Only Luke will know that, not any of us. Having listened to the aftermath of the tackle on the radio, I was expecting the worst watching the highlights, but it looks like Judge was caught unawares as he turned way from from Skuse. There have been far worse tackles this season, throughout the leagues, which have resulted in far less serious injuries. Luke does have something to learn from the whole episode though, so i hope he will still receive support form the club & supporters. Best wishes to Alan Judge for a full and speedy recovery.

and even this incident seems to be MM's fault!!!!

It was an error of judgement not to take Hyam off, but if MM goes we will be in League 1 in no time. There is no one else who could achieve 8th in the Championship on the present budget.

Strong, committed tackle for me. I think Hyam was in control of it and it was there to be one. Was his leading foot high enough off the ground with studs showing? Not for me.

Sadly for Judge if he'd been closer to the ball he wouldn't have had the leg break. Think it was the follow through that caught him more. I'd argue the one on Hyam was worse, which he reacted to. Much higher and raking his thigh.

Sad for Judge. He's a had a decent season.

Get off your high horse blueboy. You're just using this unfortunate incident to attack the club which appears to be your reason for existence. Dissboy is 100% correct, just one of those things.

Well said Algarvefan, great post.

I know how it feels when you break a payers leg - one game I fell backwards onto a players knee and it bent backward making some awful snapping sounds, and played in two other games where legs have been broken. Even if you are not the one to break the leg, it still plays on your mind. So I can sympathise with Hyam and he probably should have been taken off.

It was a poor tackle, in my opinion it should have been a red and I said so at the time. Hyam then compounded it by reacting again later.
He has apologised and seems genuinely upset by it.
That should now be the end of it.
As usual some can't stop there and make ridiculous comments both at LH and MM that just show how ignorant some of the posters on here are.
I suspect a lot of them wouldn't say a word in public but are brave enough to hide on here.

Bobblehat ........ you 'suspect' do you ? ....... well your 'suspecting' may just be well off the mark where some are concerned. Believe me.

The first part of your post I agreed with - and for once, I was about to agree with your whole post, shame you had to spoil it. But there, I guess I should have known better than expect anything other.

Because they are the people who I am proud to be different to - maybe a Supporter who believes in higher morals and standards - of which our Club were

just watched the highlights/lowlights and the tackle on Hyam which lead to Hyams retaliation and dismissal was an evil tackle, studs high aiming to injure and was much worse, that had real intent to hurt him. JUst out of interest(polite question) what was your take on that, Blueboy?

I dont Believe Woods got booked for what was a really nasty attempt on Hyams thigh, totally different to Hyams genuinely hard tackle which sadly left a player injured.

Dissboyitfc ......... Absolutely ........ but anyone who knows, or has played Football. knows it was likely to happen for obvious reason - therefore the opportunity should have been removed previously by the Manager.
