Ex-Blue Oar Not Ruling Out Return to England Saturday, 23rd Apr 2016 09:57 Former Blues midfielder Tommy Oar says he could return to English football one day but has no regrets about his decision to leave Town after only five months in January.
The Australian international winger, who joined the Blues on a free transfer last summer having left Dutch side FC Utrecht, made only four starts and five sub appearances, scoring his only goal in the FA Cup third round tie against Portsmouth at Portman Road, before his contract was terminated by mutual consent. He rejoined his former club the Brisbane Roar in February.
“I definitely have big ambitions and would love to go back overseas,” the 24-year-old told Australia’s The Daily Football Show. “It’s always difficult to predict where your football career is going to take you.”
“I don’t really want to speculate but if the opportunity did arise to go back to a country like England it’d be something I’d love to do.”
Regarding his Town exit, he added: “At this stage in my career I wasn’t really getting the opportunities at Ipswich, and with the style of play and all these other factors, I couldn’t see myself being successful there.
“In order to benefit me long-term I needed to do something about it and that was kind of a big part of the reason why I went to Brisbane. I’m really happy with the decision.”
Oar previously played down comments from his agent suggesting that Town's style of football was behind his early exit.
Since returning to the Roar, who face Western Sydney Wanderers in an A-League semi-final on Sunday, Oar has made two starts and three sub appearances.
Meanwhile, former Blues defender Chris Swailes has already reached a final with his club, Ebac Northern League side Morpeth Town.
Swailes, now 45 and having come out of retirement for a second time, and Morpeth will face Hereford in the FA Vase final, a trophy he has already won twice in his career, at Wembley on Sunday 22nd May having overcome Bowers and Pitsea at the semi-final stage.
The centre-half came through the youth system at Portman Road but was released and joined Peterborough United in 1991.
George Burley re-signed him from Doncaster Rovers for £225,000 in 1995 soon after taking over as manager and Swailes went on to make 39 starts and three sub appearances before moving to Bury as part of the 1997 deal which saw David Johnson join the Blues.

Tommy Oar only had one problem with Ipswich Town - he, like several others already have, would have had the 'football' coached out of him, had he stayed. Full marks for him for having the rollocks to do otherwise - and leave the boring ship.He had 'flair' and is rated highly by 'our past Dutch Masters. That is a good enough assessment of a player for me. I just hate the attitude of some ITFC so called fans, who consistently condone McCarthy and his boring style, as well as look for excuses for everything he says and does. One can only assume that 'birds of a feather flock together' - they certainly do in this case. Hope Tommy Oar comes back to England and proves his point, which he is capable of doing. Just ask the Dutch Masters - some of us had the pleasure of being entertained by.

As expected from the beginning then. Basically he had too much quality and creative ability for us. Says it all about MM. Fair enough he decided to leave, but not to even bother replacing him in January sums Evans up.

Dissboy sadly you are deluded our standing in world football evaporated when Sir Bobby took the England job until certain old timers accept this fact and accept we are a small town club that punch above our weight your expectations are sadly going to come up short.

We all know our style of play really is poor. It is direct, 1 dimensional and lacks creativity. When Oar came over from Holland he must have had a culture shock regarding the style of play. Deep down there seemed more to it than failing to settle in a country not too dissimilar to Holland, culture and weather wise. Now the style of play isn't the best, but where was Oar's stomach for a fight?? He talks about lack of opportunity, he didn't set the world alight when he did play, where is his fight?? He bottled it plain and simple. Good riddance to him.

Essex57... you are deluded my friend, it is only in the last few years has our reputation for football been ruined, with our reputation at an all time low i would say without doubt we are very comparable to Wimbledon of the 80's/90's it was within this period we were signing a world class player the Ukraine, Sergei Baltacha, he had choices but chose us because of our reputation. How many world class players would choose us now. An international from a second rate footballing nation goes home because he hates our style! Stop defending the rubbish we are being served up, you dont see that level of hoofball in non-league! It was only 4 years ago we spanked west ham 5-1, they have progressed nicely havent they? Was only 6 years ago Norwich were in the 3rd tier, they have done ok since havent they? we have only achieved championship safety and ruined our footballing reputation in the progress! You may be ok with us going around in circles achieving nothing, not even an attempt at a cup run to give something to cheer. We used to be loved, now people are just condemning our hoofball. One more thing essex57... to quote u, u said judge MM at the end of the season. well now its the end whats your thoughts? a disapointing season where we have gone backwards. To want progress and entertainment and a little football thrown is " NOT " disillusioned. If you are happy with year upon year of championship survival playing the ugliest football ever witnessed at portman road then i am pleased for you. Those who want better are not deluded, our football is an embarrassment!

several clubs our size and smaller( bournmouth ) enjoying life in the top flight! stop keeping putting us down. I honestly believe the supporters who accept the rubbish we get served every season are playing their part in us staying where we are. With only one more home game to go this is likely to be the first season ever where we have failed to score more than 2 Goals. That is a shocking achievement and it does not represent entertainment, value or progress!

Not quiet the end of the season I have stated many times you cannot go back to the 70s 80s or 90s the world of football has changed and is no longer a level playing field you will get teams like Bournemouth who will over achieve perhaps that will be us again look at Wigan Bolton Charlton Portsmouth they have been premiership clubs and look at their current position. Of course Mccarthy sees where the faults are but he isn't going to comment about them in public to appease the keyboard warriors of twtd . Yes this season has been mightily disappointing due to the creativity in the team being ravaged by injuries. Looking forward to next season a fit Bishop,Mcgoldrick, Knudsen, much improved and will end up a quality player Sears, Bart, Smith ,Dozzell Kenrock we have a nucleus of a good team get rid of some dead wood and make a few additions and we are on the road again. To answer your question I'm 100% behind Mccarthy.
