Wednesday Continue to Eye McGoldrick Wednesday, 27th Jul 2016 13:31 Sheffield Wednesday are continuing to keep tabs on Town striker David McGoldrick, TWTD having first reported their interest in the Republic of Ireland international a month ago.
The Owls, with whom McGoldrick was briefly on loan in 2011, are one of a number of Championship clubs eyeing the 28-year-old, who returned to action at Cambridge on Saturday having missed the first few weeks of pre-season with a hip flexor problem.
Dutch side FC Twente, who were previously keen on McGoldrick during his time at Nottingham Forest, have also shown interest but the financial side of any proposed deal would appear to rule them out of the running.
McGoldrick, among the top earners at Portman Road, probably the highest, is contracted until the summer of 2018 and Town are likely to want a significant fee, although the Nottingham-born frontman’s valuation is unlikely to be close to the £7 million they turned down from Leicester in the summer of 2014.

£7m?...personally if they offered us half that i'd take it - so long as we can spend some of it. Don't get me wrong,he's a great little player - when fit - but he'll probably spend over half the season injured again.

Football is always about change and this is a necessary change. DM is injury prone and probably will continue to be so..no Premier League club would buy him on that basis alone never mind the fact he lacks the one asset that they would demand..pace.if we can recover some cash for him we should do so while he is worth a reasonable fee albeit from one of our rivals who won't get that many games from him either . We should recognise where we now sit in the football world..football and its finances have moved on..left us behind so let's get behind our young players and maybe some hungry new recruits ..that's how we will be operating from now on lets just accept that and if we get moments of success let's embrace that..stop living in the past and enjoy our football club for what it is..sure I want football that is more progressive and easy on the eye ...we may have to wait for that but to achieve that we need change and that will take time.
