Early in the summer it was reported that nine clubs were targeting him, including Premier League duo Hull City and Swansea, as well as SPL champions Celtic and Championship sides Aston Villa, Brighton, Derby, Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Wolves.
The 22-year-old, who was on loan at Rotherham for a month during 2014/15, joined the Foxes from Manchester United for a reported £1 million on the final day of the 2014 summer transfer window after they had failed in their attempt to land Town’s David McGoldrick.
But the 5ft 9in tall forward has made just three league starts and one FA Cup sub appearance for the Premier League champions since then and and has not featured this season.
Wrexham-born Lawrence, who is contracted to the Foxes until June 2018, spent spells out on loan at Carlisle and Yeovil while a Manchester United player.
Lawrence, who missed Euro 2016 due to an ankle injury, has been capped four times by Wales, in addition to appearances at U17, U19 and U21 levels, and is in the squad for their opening World Cup qualifier against Moldova on Monday 5th September in Cardiff.
The signing of Lawrence is almost certainly won't be Town's final addition before the transfer window closes at 11pm tomorrow.
Manager Mick McCarthy is understood to be looking for a direct replacement for Daryl Murphy, who joined Newcastle over the weekend, with Burnley's Lukas Jutkiewicz understood to be on his list of targets, while the Town boss is keen to augment other areas of his squad with no emergency loans available this season. Clarets winger Michael Kightly also remains a target.

Didn't see that one coming now did we ? Young and two footed. That'll do nicely.Another sign that potentially our style of play's changing for the better. I still think that we've got one more leaving us - who played on Saturday but not in the previous two games. Hope I'm wrong.
This is a good signing... BUT.. How is Adam Armstrong going to Rotherham and not us.. What is McCarthy looking for in a Striker that this boy does not offer .. Best natural goal scorer I ve seen since Robbie Fowler
I hope he is a better player / goal scorer than that other ex Man Utd player RYAN TUNNICLIFFE And thankfully having got him (Lawrence) we are now unlikely to see / endure a Maitland-Niles return
It's another body through the door. Not overly convinced about a loan - still think we need to spend some cash on some quality and more importantly a longer term option. Look what a modest fee bought us in Ward. One for the future as well as making an instant impact. More of those signings. Less loans.
If I remember correctly he played in a midfield four against us for Blackburn last season and he was exceptional. We were outplayed that day so hopefully he will be the same for us.
Another MM " hidden signing" We do now know that under the current regime we are not in contention for household names, unless those with the power have " another hidden signing" with lots of ITFC shirts. But being a renewing season ticket holder I signed up to that. We all can read what Best or Lawrence or Uncle Tom Cobley have done elsewhere but until the PR coaching staff have their hands upon them, let's pause before we hail or cry!!!
Pleased with this - looks very attacking, likes to take people on and have a pop! If he can keep his head up when dribbling he will be immense!
Have to laugh - there is lots to moan about at Town, including mostly dire entertainment over last couple of years, but to see people on here moan about this signing..... ? You must just want to moan for the sake of it! Come on cheer up!
Can I just say Im happy that we are bringing in some new additions to our team maybe not the most exiting signings but interesting to see what Mick plans are only god knows.I really want to see the Skuse/Douglas duo broken up,Chambo out of RF for his sake hard as he tries for our team.Give most of the new guys a chance not warming the bench..
spanishblue - when match officials turn a blind eye to rash tackles and blatant fouling to take out talented individuals such as Williams and get away with it there's something wrong with the game. I lost count of the times he was targeted in games whilst here. I think your sick note accusations are a little wide of the mark. Welcome Tom looking forward to see what you can do for us. COYB's.
Well no one saw that one coming!!!!Welcome Tom and looking forward to you providing competition and the Blues moving further up the table.Still think that Mick will spring another couple of surprises before the transfer deadline.Supporters need to give him credit for the way he goes about his business. For all of the moaning on this site some supporters need to realise we haven't got £15 million to spend on a player like Aston Villa. Also think back to wasted funds on Priskin,Ellington,Martin etc etc. Let's get behind Mick as he tries to assemble a positive squad on a shoestring budget. At least they're fighting until the end of the game now and backing each other.
We all know that players that come to the club tend to improve through the coaching of TC and MM. Give the guy a chance. It's good to see how when we are linked with a player we normally don't get them and we usually get surprised with the signings. Signing big money players is no guarantee of success - look at how much money Derby County have spent over the last few seasons putting many sides in the shade but for all their money they couldn't beat Burton Albion on Friday. Many years ago Celtic paid £500,000 for Henrik Larsson and look how he turned out even going to Barcelona.
Bet you didn't predict Grant Ward scoring more in a few games than the whole of midfield last season. Positivity COYB âš½ï¸âš½ï¸âš½ï¸âš½ï¸
Obviously we should welcome Tom and wish him the best - and all hope that it will at least encourage a more progressive/ attractive style of football (rather than hoofing it up to big Daryl up front....). Not wishing to rain on anyone's parade - but my Leicester friend was distinctly unimpressed with Mr Lawrence on the rare occasions he saw play - he described him as having had high expectations (with his Man Utd credentials) - describes him as very forgettable although notes he may have improved since then. Even thought he was one of the "naughty boys" caught out in Thailand along with Pearson's son - basically they had high hopes and didn't feel like he was ever going to make it with them Let's hope he is proved wrong....
