Stewart Exits Town Wednesday, 31st Aug 2016 15:37 Winger Cameron Stewart has left the Blues by mutual consent. The 25-year-old had a year remaining on his contract but was firmly out of manager Mick McCarthy’s plans.
Stewart joined the Blues two years ago having been released by Hull City and after a move to Leeds United broke down, but made only two sub appearances for Town, both in the FA Cup ties against Southampton in January 2015.
“I would like to wish the lads and the management team all the best for the rest of the season,” Stewart told the club site.
“Ipswich Town is a fantastic football club but unfortunately things haven’t gone as I would have like them to over the last two seasons.
“I am now looking forward to a new challenge and hope that once the transfer window has closed I may be in a better position to resume my career elsewhere.”
McCarthy added: “It has not worked out for Cameron here but that happens in football sometimes. We wish him all the best for the future.”
Stewart spent last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers, having been with Barnsley for a short spell at the end of the previous campaign.

pity for the lad, hopefully he'll get another chance with another club.

@oldbri the difference between us is although we both want the club to succeed and return to the TWTD's times you trust McCarthy and I don't I see a dour, dull, stubborn Yorkshire man way out of date who is as capable of getting the Town back into the Premiership and keeping us there as I have of building a life size model of the Taj Mahal out of matchsticks by this weekend. Personally I don't mind the Town being in the Championship providing they play good entertaining football and develop and use our own players and bring through our own youngsters and no loans. I am certain Jack Marriott would have been a success here had allowances been made for his immaturity and his confidence built up afterall even McCarthy said he "scores goals for fun". No when he first came here a friend of a Yorkshireman said our football under his Managership would be as exciting as Boycott's batting. He wasn't wrong.

Bluetone.Do you not think though that McCarthy by the players he is now signing,is showing that we might see some better footy this year. I think that MM and ME may have been influenced by the criticism for once, and of course the drop in attendances, which is a good thing. However I think that the league positions he has achieved in the last three years, are not that bad,and would not have been so high if you are just relying on our own youngsters. The signing of Jonny Williams I admit is a gamble;but him and Conor Grant are premiership players who would have been difficult to acquire other than a loan.

Poor player I thought even before we signed him...glad he's gone! See ya.

@Seasider we can only hope but I think it is the drop in attendance that is the main reason for any perceived change.

Felt a bit sorry for Cameron Stewart not being given a bit more game time in the first team to show what he could do,like so many others during MM's reign;but he sees him every day,and bearing in mind nobody came in for him, perhaps its best for all concerned, especially as we now have Jonny back! Good luck to him though.

A totally useless transfer for both club and player. Pity really but did anyone ever see him play?

........ just not a MM favourite - if you are, you're in, however you play - if you're not, you are soon pushed out. Simple, but unfair - not at all the ITFC way of old. For all the euphoria on the back of a couple of signings - flair and creativity, is, and always will be, alien to MM. He will never change. Just remains to be seen how many games Williams stays injury free for - let's hope for a few more than previously - and indeed a few more than a certain Mr McGoldrick. Time will tell - as always.

I wonder what MM is looking for in a player, is it commitment, skill, speed,. He does seem to ship players out without actually explaining why.

To everyone having a dig at Stewart on here, we know nothing about his attitude. I certainly haven't heard any verified stories of problems with him. Sometimes your style and skills just don't fit with a manager, which seems to be the case here. It doesn't make him a bad player. And to everyone having a dig at Mick, he's had more hits than misses in terms of transfers. No manager is perfect. Moan about the style of play by all means, but Mick's record on all fronts compares well with his two predecessors.
