Lawrence: I Only Heard Good Things About Town Thursday, 8th Sep 2016 11:06 Town’s reputation, as well as their ambition, helped to capture loan signing Tom Lawrence from Leicester. The Welsh international, who had offers from a host of Championship clubs, including tomorrow’s opponents Reading, said: “Everyone I spoke to said only good things about Ipswich. They talked about the great togetherness, which I’ve seen for myself now. “The gaffer and his assistant are good people and once I spoke to them this was where I wanted to be. I’m looking forward to getting involved now. “There’s a real ambition at the club to push for promotion and you can see that from the outside as well. “They only just missed the play-offs by one place last season and the previous year they were in them, which speaks for itself. I’m here to help them push on even further. “I’ve played a few games against Ipswich in the last few seasons. Since I arrived the lads have been great with me. They have welcomed me really well and they seem a great group of lads. “It’s still early days but I can see the similarity between Ipswich and the Welsh squad in terms of team spirit and camaraderie.” Lawrence has arrived on a season-long loan from Leicester, last season’s surprise Premier League champions, but he did not make a single appearance for the Foxes and instead played his football on loan at Blackburn — two goals in 23 appearances — and Cardiff, where he failed to find the net in 14 outings. Asked if he was still able to enjoy Leicester’s incredible achievement, he replied: “Yes, of course. I’ve got a lot of mates back there and I was keeping in touch with them while I was away. “It was good to watch Leicester winning the league, even if I wasn’t playing. I’ve got this season and next left on my contract so we’ll have to wait and see what happens. “Some people might think it was the worst thing that could have happened but when your club are doing so well you can’t think that way. “I was just doing what I needed to do, which was play for Blackburn and Cardiff. I was pleased for Leicester and the players because I have a lot of friends there and I was happy for them all. “But I need to play, one of the reasons being my international career. I want to stay in contention and push on with Wales. “We had a great start in our World Cup qualifying group the other night with a 3-0 win over Moldova and hopefully there is more to come.”
