Williams, Bishop and Varney in Action as U23s Beat Southend Wednesday, 5th Oct 2016 15:51 Jonny Williams played 70 minutes and Teddy Bishop the full 90, claiming a goal, as Town’s U23s beat Southend United 4-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Playford Road earlier this afternoon.
Luke Varney, who played 45 minutes of the match, and Shane McLoughlin were also on target against a more youthful Shrimpers side, while both teams netted an own goal apiece.
Josh Emmanuel, Myles Kenlock and Conor Grant were also in the side, while Harry Wright was in goal.
On-loan Crystal Palace man Williams is on the way back from the ankle injury he suffered in pre-season and played 45 minutes for the U23s as they lost 3-0 at home to Liverpool on Sunday.
Speaking last week, manager Mick McCarthy was hopeful that if he came through this week’s two U23s games the Wales international would be in contention for the first team when they take on Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park a week on Saturday.
“He will play on Sunday against Liverpool at Portman Road and then we’re trying to get a game on the Wednesday, so if we do and he’s OK and he can compete in both of them, play in both then he’ll be all right for the Blackburn game,” McCarthy said.
McCarthy will also have been pleased to see midfielder Bishop play the whole game.
“I’ve been willing him to be fully fit and fit to play 90 minutes for the last 18 months almost,” the Town boss said prior to Saturday's game against Huddersfield.
“He’s just getting there and he’s doing all right and he breaks his bugle and he has to have it reset the night before [the Brighton game].
“It’s just been one thing after the other, but breaking his nose is a tiny little one, that’s not going to keep him out for any great length of time and I think he’s over that, so hopefully he can start.”

Midastouch Everybody has a right to their opinions which is quite correct, what I complain about is the same thing being said week in week out. It would be nice to go onto this site and find new original posts not always say the same thing, once you have said MM out you should not say it every time you come onto the site that is BORING

I bet you'll now claim that referring to me 'clueless' and 'retarded' was a joke.... Funny guy.

Gcon, you just gave a red card to wrong person, a case of mistaken identity, I never called you any such thing. Please go back to the previous page of comments to check and you'll see clearly it wasn't from me. And it's "you're clueless", not "your clueless".

Ok Tony88. Where do you sit as you're keeping your cards close to your chest? Are you happy with our progress of late and if not why not inject some ideas please on where we might improve things, or are you of the view that Mick is beyond reproach? As for more original content, I put a post on the end of the Max Booth (Needham Market) trial thread about Brentford's stat-based approach. I think that is the direction we should be looking towards. Have a look please if you get a minute and see if you think that is any more original than the usual "Mick out" posts and ubiquitous Skuse and Douglas ranting and raving. Cheers

Midastouch. You are absolutely correct - my sincere apologies to you. (However, I intentionally used the pronoun, your - as in 'your good friend, GCon'.) Mickzzztactics The above comments refer to you. Referring to people as retarded is not big or funny or clever. Besides, I'm more senile than retarded.

Thanks for the apology Gcon. All water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned. I'll leave you and Mickzzztactic to kiss and make up, or not for that matter lol! And no need to justify the use of English language, I'm no particular expert in that area. If I recall I scraped through school with a C Grade in English. If the truth be told I was too busy playing football and enjoying the fact that we were actually a top team back then! :-)

Midastouch Yes I did read you Brentford post and I agree that any new initiatives should be looked at to improve our teams performance but I am sure you would agree that constructive posts such as yours do not appear very often but of course I may have missed them due to all the rubbish that comes from a lot of the people on this site.

I would be the first to admit not all my posts are constructive, as I am a bit of a joker at heart, but that aside and on a more serious note, I do definitely feel like we're missing a trick in not adopting a similar statistical-analysis approach such as that being pursued by Brentford. Here is the article that first made me aware of their approach (to save others switching to the other thread to find it), just in case anybody else is interested in reading it. https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2015/feb/22/brentford-mathematical-mod
