Wark Inducted Into Scottish Football Hall of Fame
Monday, 31st Oct 2016 09:31

Town legend John Wark was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame at a dinner at Hampden Park last night.

Glasgow-born Wark, 59, won 29 Scotland caps, scoring seven goals, and as well as his FA Cup and UEFA Cup while with Town, twice won the league with Liverpool.

Also inducted last night were Celtic’s Lisbon Lion Stevie Chalmers, former Leeds and Liverpool midfielder Gary McAllister, ex-St Mirren and Aberdeen boss Alex Smith and late Rangers, Leicester and Colchester manager Jock Wallace, while there was a special tribute to already-inducted ex-Gers boss Walter Smith.

This year’s inductees were nominated by fans before a panel reduced the list down to five.

The Scottish Football Hall of Fame, which was instigated in 2004, is located at the Scottish Football Museum at Hampden Park. Former Town and Rangers skipper Terry Butcher was inducted in 2011.

Whilst listening to Talksport this morning, I wondered how on earth Warky only got 29 caps. We all know he'd be worth £60m today so how did he not play more for Scotland?

What took them so long? Ridiculous that Warky's induction should come five years after that of Terry Butcher. At least he's in good company as Steve Chalmers scored the goal that won Celtic the European Cup in 1967. Mind you, Chalmers has had a long wait - he's 81 soon. Don't suppose Tom Carson's in yet?

Best midfielder the world has ever seen. Better than Zidane and Cantona who are equal second.

Well done Warky, not before time! It always makes me smile too that Butcher, an England Captain makes it in also.

Agreed this is well overdue for Warky. He had everything. A midfielder that s
cores goals? Just a Simon Milton or Mickey Stockwell would do in our current m/f let alone one of footballs greatest ever!

Seeing that picture with Arnold in the background has made me all nostalgic sigh!

Off topic;noticed that Ainsley Maitland-Niles was a late sub for Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime

God, how we need someone of his calibre now. Mind you, the players around him were class too.

A legend in the centre of midfield and in the centre of defence. Used to chip in a few goals as well.

Seeing Murhen in the background reminds me that we seem to do better when we have Dutch players.
