McCarthy Confirms Diagouraga Loan and Taylor Set to Train With Town
Saturday, 21st Jan 2017 18:03

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Leeds midfielder Toumani Diagouraga will be joining the Blues on loan and that former Newcastle United centre-half Steven Taylor will be training with the squad on Monday.

“Yes, that’s going to happen,” McCarthy said regarding 29-year-old Diagouraga. “[He’s someone to add a bit of power to the midfield] and a bit of ability.

“He was the one at Brentford that got on the ball and started it all off in that really good team that got in the play-offs, I’m delighted with that one.

With several first-teamers out injured McCarthy needs to add senior players to his squad.

“I look in the dressing room there, Diggers has just come back from being out for eight weeks and I thought he did well today,” he added.

“Jordan Spence has come in after not playing a game all season, we’ve signed one from Forest Green in Kieffer Moore, who I thought did well in his time on the pitch.

“I’ve got Tristan Nydam on the bench and Adam McDonnell travelling, it’s been a tough old season for that. So yes, it would be nice to have some fresh faces.”

Is the Diagouraga loan with a view to a longer-term deal? “Funny that, that’s always the question, we’re taking on loan until the end of the season.”

Diagouraga joined the Whites from Brentford last January and has made 14 starts and 16 sub appearances, scoring three goals, but his only game this season was on the opening day of the campaign.

TWTD revealed that the Blues were targeting Taylor on Friday morning and McCarthy confirmed that he would be running the rule over the 30-year-old in the week: “He’s coming to train on Monday.”

Given his experience in the Premier League, the Blues boss says he could be a significant asset to the squad: “If he’s fit, he’s been out in America playing [with the Portland Timbers] and we’ll have a look at him next week. He was a very good player.”

Bues1 - very good point. I just hope that a couple of those bids are for experienced play-making midfielders.
While McCarthy has himself to provide advice to defenders and Connor to help strikers we do not appear to have anyone for midfielders that I am aware of and it is there that our major weakness lies. Until that situation is resolved we will not progress .... very frustrating

ME has already pumped a huge amount of cash into the club under Jewell/Keane, plus taking over the club in the first place. Seems to be cutting his cloth accordingly and harsh as it may seem we can't afford some of the players some fans are calling for. Perhaps under new management we can breed (and keep) the next talent such as Dyer/Ambrose/Bramble, keep them and develop the team.

On another note, anyone else feel slightly sick everytime Connor Hourihanes name is mentioned.. must be worth £10m+ now and we let him go for nothing. Imagine this.. Hourihane to Rhodes.. Goal. If only..

It's been obvious to some of us for ages that midfield is our problem and particularly the lack of energy in there with Hyam missing. The manager seems intimidated by any player with class or skill so fills his midfield with the opposite. Thus we get Skuse and to a lesser extent Douglas (who does at least try to attack but his legs have gone). A defensive midfielder should have a tackle in him and the pace and energy to intercept threats and occasionally develop attacks. If you have someone like this you only need one in the team. If not you get Skuse plus someone else to cover for him. This has been the problem for two seasons. So welcome big fella - you are exactly what we've been crying out for. Please make that position your win and then we might see some footba at last.

For those who just comment that they don't care anymore, it seems you do as you are still reading and commenting. As regards a new owner? Well someone would need to cover the £80 million debt or maybe nearer £90 million. To then spend millions more we would need a very very wealthy buyer. Someone suggested Trump Ha Ha Ha. If you want to go from a team of defensive players to a team of right wingers then write to him lol.

We're down to the bare bones. Could potentially be two good signings there. Think Douglas and bru will be on their way in the summer

I am always disappointed when Town lose as I am a bad loser. My first game was the 5-4 win over Hull City on 22nd October 1966. Bill McGarry left us because he got more money at wolves. Bobby Robson came with super attacking football and went. We have been in the top division In the days of pitch invasions I was there being counted when we wanted the manager out. But who do we replace him with? I can only admire Mick McCarthy's loyalty to the owner and the fans by not taking more money and going elsewhere. We only need to look at Portsmouth to see how the mighty have fallen. Belly aching only puts off the honest punter. Lets fill Portman Road and get loads of sponsorship money in from reliable firms because they believe that our support is first rate. We have done it before so lets do it again - be Premiere League supports and lets bring the best football here because we want it!

Truly makes me laugh. I mean the big lad may be solid signing up until the summer so fair enough and a fit motivates Stephen Taylor will certainly add more than a Chambers imo. But come on! Planning for the future!? Made offers for 3 or 4 of 1 million plus? Thats all well and good when you know they won't be accepted!! Remember the first game of the season 4-2 again Barnsley...i was seriously excited and if we finished 12th or 13th I wouldn't have cared as I believe we were gonna throw caution to the wind. How i was wrong.

If he was any good Leeds would have kept him. I won't knock any player but surely we can go a little better than this.
What a terrible season so far,on and off the park.I just cannot get excited anymore.Sad to say but true.!

If we can actually BUY a couple of players before the window ends (strikers please!!) and with Tommy, Luke and Didds on way back that would make it a fairly strong squad-----or am I still drunk from Sat night?

So we have a very good layer and a poultry investment. The chickens are certainly coming home to roost!

Well done PedlarJak. I did spot the poultry mis-spell but failed to connect it with the layer. Very good.

As far as the actual football is concerned, I, sadly, have nothing to add . . .
