Chambers: We're Letting Boss Down
Monday, 23rd Jan 2017 06:00

Skipper Luke Chambers says he and his team-mates have let boss Mick McCarthy down with their recent performances, admitting that confidence is low at present. The Blues were beaten 2-0 at Huddersfield on Saturday at the end of a week in which they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Vanarama National League leaders Lincoln.

“When things aren’t going well there is always going to be a lack of confidence but it’s all in the head,” Chambers said.

“You’ve got to take the opportunity when it comes, you’ve got to make the right decision on the pitch and off the pitch.

“We are paid to play football and we should take the rough with the smooth and we've just got to learn we are all very good footballers or else we wouldn’t be playing at this level.

“It is a lot in the mind at the moment and when things are tough that is when you see people’s true character and we need to show a bit more at the moment.”

Chambers, 31, admits the players need to put in improved displays to reduce the pressure on manager Mick McCarthy.

“We all want what is best for the football club so the boys are doing everything effort-wise but the quality has not been there,” he added.

“We are letting him down at the moment in terms of the performances we are giving in a 90-minute spell, so we need to be doing more for him.

“It is difficult when things aren’t going well but we’ve got another game coming round in a week’s time, we’ve got work ourselves on the training pitch and start believing in each other and each other’s ability.

“He’s not the only manager in the division where things are tough at the moment, teams are going through tough, tough runs and we are involved in probably the bottom 10 at the minute who are not playing well, not having the rub of the green or not playing well and are lacking that bit of quality.”

Town, who are 14th, nine points off the bottom three, are next in action on Saturday at Preston, who are 10th with 40 points, six more than the Blues.

The Captain comes out and says "We must do better for the manager,we are letting him down".Hang on a minute, should you have not been doing this from the start of the season. It's a bit late now mate.
Dire tactics, players in round holes, wrong players left out, ridiculous substitutions, need i go on.It's there for all to see, just a shame the management, players, and owner cannot see it before there very eyes.I rest my case.!

The main problem is that we're all being bored out of our brains with the standard of football on show (win, lose or draw).

Too many players who can't put 2 passes together being the biggest issue, starting with the uselessness of the midfield duo - the engine room of any side - and ours has been pi55 poor since McCarthy took over - the high points of the last 4 and a bit years being Murphy's wonder season and the magic provided by Jonny Williams & Ryan Fraser (when they were fit)..Lawrence is single handedly carrying the team this season and that's embarrassing for him as much as us.

Saturday was the 12th time this season where we've failed to score.

I would guess that, like most ST holders, I turn up at PR in hope rather than expectation.
I won't stay away from the home games - I don't believe that to do so would have any impact on ME regarding MM's position.

so we just sit back and say nothing Thundercat600? That would suit Evans fine, time to realise that the club belongs to the supporters without it we don't have a club

Pol dark surely I haven't got to reiterate my position still I haven't got anything to do until the first race is off.
Yes he makes some strange decisions I'm always willing to give the man who is paid to do the job because he has all the facts in front of him the benefit of the doubt.
He does a good job with the resources available to him people will throw well they are his players yes they might be within the budget I'm sure if he had more resources there would be different players here, there not so we have to get on with what we have got.
He's been crucified by injuries for at least 12 months so in my opinion he's managed to over achieve with a bang ordinary bunch of players I get abused for my views they are only views and thank god I haven't got the task of pleasing the user's of the news site,so there we have it none of the above merits any need for users to call me Micks wife Micks bastard son an idiot and lots worse imo.

Respect Chambers for taking some responsibility. All the players need to start taking more responsibility.
It can't all be the managers fault and the players need to show more desire.

The thing is,we all want the best for our club and many of us have different views as to how they think the club should be run and the direction it should be taking.
At the end of the day life would be boring if we all wanted or accepted the same things in life.
Let's all agree to try and keep these pages friendly and not get out of hand like the forums on the EADT did.

Martin587 I wholeheartedly agree the only problem I have is that this respect thing is very one way if you don't happen to hate the manager,Chambo, Douglas,ME,the lack of youth selection the list goes on and on your are verbally abused I support the Whole club through good and bad with my hard earnt cash so surely I'm allowed an opinion right or wrong.
Incident on the question of youth easiest way to ruin a good talent is to throw him in the deep end and overplay them at a young age look at Ainsley last season started off a good prospect then finished up average wasn't developed physically or mentally enough for required championship football.
The only one of our current crop of youngsters to be physically ready is Josh imo

MM during his post-match analysis: “It's not quite the same for us, but I'm not suggesting we lack confidence, no, not at all.”
And the skipper says he and his team-mates have let boss Mick McCarthy down with their recent performances, admitting that confidence is low at present.

Luke, tell the Boss that confidence is low so he can do something about it - like buy a bit of class to give you guys a boost, or something!

Lets make one thing perfectly clear.......It's the fans who pay your wages by watching the matches, buying the merchandise and supporting the team! Without supporters you have no money and so Luke, YOU are letting US down, screw McCarthy, he should answer to the supporters yet you make NO mention of this in the bulletin. This is clearly another PR exercise by the spin doctors at Portman Road trying to take the blame off the guy in charge.
How dare you say "we are letting the boss down" We the supporters pay money to watch this rubbish week in and week out, McCarthy gets his fat cheque each month no matter what so he's laughing!!
So remember.......first of all when you go out there....you are playing for ALL of us!!!

Just a note to the moron who wrote this press release for our beloved captain to read - the people let down most by the players, management, board of directors and owner are the fans. It is time that those that can affect results and performances stopped kissing each others backsides and dealt with the problems that they have created. How did our club gets to the point where there is a them and us mentality between fans and everyone else?

Well said Martin587.
We need to stick together for the common cause and although I agree with healthy debates, some of the comments start to get personal and a little nasty.

Remember, we are here because we are passionate about one thing IPSWICH TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB

Don't lose focus in that

Football is one of the few occupations where the employees ie players can get the manager the sack, normally it,s the other way around. Ahh! the great untouchables. The only thing the manager can do is banish the non-triers to the reserves but we are short on experienced personnel so they keep getting a game, There is know one to put any pressure on those with the shirt so therefore play most games. (ie Berra, Chambers, Douglas, Skuse)

"we have got to learn we are all very good football players or else we wouldn't be playing at this level" hahahahahahahaha! You're just lucky the manager hasn't a clue, and seems to, for whatever reason, like you a lot. No way that 95% of the team would get into any other championship squad!

Bert.... i have thought about it and going to games getting behind the club, putting up with the rubbish doesnt help and will only stop when we make our feelings known.

Wish I could have given thundercat 10 likes lol I live in Toronto now and dont get to watch as many games as it is hard to find streams etc, but i watched the awful Lincoln game and most of the guys on the pitch didnt want to be there! Got passed around and out worked when pressed in every jump and run. I don't run the club, and in the last 16 plus years in D2 MM has done us well. These boys and men play a game I love for a team I SUPPORT! Simple. I have seen Chambo make mistakes that cost us games ... but he puts his heart in, his energy, his time, and that is what I respect at the end of the day!COYB!!

No surprise one of Mick's favourites is wheeled out to spout the usual BS. All mates together, nothing about the fans which MM couldn't give a toss about

So Steve Bruce is looking forward to playing us soon, so he can keep Villa's unbeaten run going ???
What on earth is going on when another Manager can make a statement like that ??? and we do not play them until 11th February !!!! Is this what other clubs think of us ??? Over to you Mr. Evans ????
Those two Lincoln games certainly pulled us down to the lowest Ebb !!!
