Chambers: We're Letting Boss Down
Monday, 23rd Jan 2017 06:00

Skipper Luke Chambers says he and his team-mates have let boss Mick McCarthy down with their recent performances, admitting that confidence is low at present. The Blues were beaten 2-0 at Huddersfield on Saturday at the end of a week in which they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Vanarama National League leaders Lincoln.

“When things aren’t going well there is always going to be a lack of confidence but it’s all in the head,” Chambers said.

“You’ve got to take the opportunity when it comes, you’ve got to make the right decision on the pitch and off the pitch.

“We are paid to play football and we should take the rough with the smooth and we've just got to learn we are all very good footballers or else we wouldn’t be playing at this level.

“It is a lot in the mind at the moment and when things are tough that is when you see people’s true character and we need to show a bit more at the moment.”

Chambers, 31, admits the players need to put in improved displays to reduce the pressure on manager Mick McCarthy.

“We all want what is best for the football club so the boys are doing everything effort-wise but the quality has not been there,” he added.

“We are letting him down at the moment in terms of the performances we are giving in a 90-minute spell, so we need to be doing more for him.

“It is difficult when things aren’t going well but we’ve got another game coming round in a week’s time, we’ve got work ourselves on the training pitch and start believing in each other and each other’s ability.

“He’s not the only manager in the division where things are tough at the moment, teams are going through tough, tough runs and we are involved in probably the bottom 10 at the minute who are not playing well, not having the rub of the green or not playing well and are lacking that bit of quality.”

Town, who are 14th, nine points off the bottom three, are next in action on Saturday at Preston, who are 10th with 40 points, six more than the Blues.

Let me tell you 'Skip', you've enormously let yourself down by allowing McCarthy to play you out of position the last 2 years or more!!!

Exactly!! what about us poor fans having to put up with this rubbish!!
Chambers your not good enough plus 4 more are not up to it, Berra, Knudsen, Douglas & Skuse your all not good enough what have u all done this season, than make the team worse.
Players like Sears, Ward & Pitman are good players who can pick their form up again with a decent manager who will play them in the right positions & give them all the confidence they need.
It's all garbage at the end of the day, nothing will change...

Not a single positive comment. Get behind the team, help build their confidence, or go and support someone else.

StrangerBlue- good post and perfectly sums up the football on offer. Unfortunately it will not change whilst MM is in charge. Chambers won't acknowledge the fans as his well aware what we think of him. I cannot understand why the players and manager are not trying to get the fans back on side, strange!! Maybe arrogance at its finest!!

Picture the scene Ipswich dressing room after the match,a person from the PR department walks in "Right who's turn is it this week to be interviewed, no not about the match, the spin we need to put on the state of the club". All players hide their heads under a towel. "Look if somebody doesn't volunteer I will pick one, thanks Luke, ok I will put you on the rota, and you will not be asked again before the end of March. Before you go here is the script MM has written, learn it off by heart for late Sunday, early Monday". Chambers has a quick read through, "Have I really got to say this, there is no mention of the fans", "How long have you played under Mick, he doesn't give a toss about the fans!!!"

Apology to Manager from Captain but sweet fa to the fans..Unfortunately think some players have started to be peed off with the fans.Dont know if it's because many are now giving their beloved MM stick,,because without him half of them would be out of a job;certainly in the Championship!

Luke Chambers says they are all very good footballers;but later admits the quality has not been there recently, which is a contradiction.

It is a combination of the above plus poor coaching and a poor attitude by McCarthy to the fans, and the very ethos of soccer.

Looks like Roy Keane had sussed him out, long before he was foisted on the unsuspecting Tractor Boys and Girls(and a few that are not sure lol)

well i totally agree with this one , yes i believe the players with their performances have let mick down ,like i say we can question the tactics at times but whats mick meant to do if a player cant even pass it 5 metres without it going out of play etc, these are just basics that you expect from professional footballers that they are getting paid megabucks for!!

Football to me is not all about winning.. it's about how you play to try and win.. Robson got it.. Burley got it.. Royal got it.. Magilton got it.. and most importantly us fans got it..
Keane didn't get it.. neither did Jewell.. and McCarthy certainly doesn't.. and Evans will never get it.. he doesn't even lead this club from the front.. what chance have we got..

Nonsense Gruuby. Royle certainly 'got it' from the fans and was hounded out.

Yallop..Only in the last season did it fall apart a bit and because of his Norwich connections.. I thought his football was generally pretty good. Any way you get what I'm trying to say

Definitely a case of what he's not saying here. Well I guess if the team takes a "f*** 'em" siege mentality that could catalyse us enought to get to 50 points. Then we can wave bye bye to Mick and his Proper Blokes (who by the way aren't leaders by Amy stretches of the imagination).

Four pages of generally negative comments about our recent play. Did nobody go to the Blackburn game or is it that many on here just simply follow what their fellow outers say without any thought at all. As I keep saying, there is little real objectivity on here and so many comments are just repetitive drivel. I await the so called protest so I and thousands more can ignore it.I am not a MM lover but I will give my support to those who put on the shirt because that's what proper blokes do.

Wethe supporters have witnessed some poor football over and over again but have still supported this club unreservedly. The straw that broke the camels back was that the players could simply not be bothered to try and match a non league club over 180 minutes in the FA CUp. Another third round exit !!!!!. The players came out in the second half at Lincoln and played just as poorly as the first half. McCarthy and Conner were motionless on the touch line. We were live on BBC television showing the nation what a mess Ipswich FC is in. That my friend you can not even try to defend !! The poor game at Huddersfield confirms the fact that we DO have crap players at this club and players unable to go to war. Big wage packets and contracts obviously mean more to some players than trying to justify their place in the team. The club is too cosy and perhaps we need better backroom staff to get the players to actually work for a living. RANT OVER>

Good to see captain Chambers trying to take responsibility for Town's poor form. The players have let everyone down (including the fans and themselves) and they all need to take responsibility and work harder and smarter to get back to playing better and getting wins and at least points. I do not want to hear players talking about relegation lightly either, whether saying they are too good to go down (sic-arrogant joke given Town's recent form and play!?) or they are worried about it. They should consider it but they should take responsibility to play better and start winning games, scoring goals and not conceding and concentrate on that! At least, if they show that attitude to us fans on and off the pitch, we can see they are trying to do better, which is hard to see right now. So come on Town players, take note of this plea from Chambers and show everyone you are trying do better! COYB...
