Former Blue Stevenson Forced to Start as Keeper Tuesday, 28th Feb 2017 23:39 Former Town midfielder Ryan Stevenson was forced to play the full 90 minutes in goal for his current club Raith Rovers as they lost 1-0 at Ayr United in the Scottish Championship this evening. The 32-year-old volunteered to wear the gloves with all three of Raith’s registered keepers injured and with the Kirkaldy-based club unable to secure the signing of an emergency loanee. A request to have the game postponed was denied by the SPFL. Stevenson impressed between the sticks but was beaten by Farid El Alagui just after the hour mark. The one-time Chelsea trainee joined the Blues from Hearts for £50,000 in January 2012 but moved back to the Edinburgh club in August of the same year on a free transfer having made three starts and 10 sub appearances, scoring once.
Elsewhere, on-loan Blues midfielder or striker Monty Patterson scored one and picked up an assist as Braintree Town won 5-0 at Bromley in the Vanarama National League in a game which ended nine against 10 after three red cards. It was the 20-year-old’s second goal for the Iron, his first in the league and his first since rejoining the Essex side earlier in the month.
