Williams Returns for U23s Against Bristol City
Monday, 6th Mar 2017 11:34

Jonny Williams will make his return to action for the U23s when they take on Bristol City at Playford Road this afternoon (KO 1pm).

The Wales international has been sidelined with a shoulder injury suffered in the 3-2 win at Wigan in December.

The 23-year-old, who is on loan with the Blues for the fourth time, has another year on his Crystal Palace contract after this season but admitted over the weekend that he may have to find a new club in the summer.

“I want to find a home and I feel that home is Palace. I always have,” he told The Sun on Sunday.

“It was the team I supported when I was younger and to play for that team you have grown up watching since you were eight is your home. But I haven’t really played much there in the last three years. It’s tough.

“I’ve been on loan a few times so it will be a decision between me, my family, my agent and the club.

“Individually, it’s hard to take sometimes when you know you can play at international level and feel comfortable in that environment.

“It comes down to opportunities. I haven’t had as many as I would have liked at Palace for one reason or another.

“If I can get an opportunity at Palace, great. I haven’t spoken to Sam Allardyce so we’ll have to wait and see.”

Andre Dozzell, Ben Morris, Adam McDonnell and Tristan Nydam will also be involved for Gerard Nash’s side this afternoon.

U23s: Crowe, Woolfenden, Nydam, Webber, C Smith, McDonnell, Blanchfield, Dozzell, Williams, McLoughlin, Morris. Subs: Hayes, Ndaba, McGavin, McKendry, Folami.

If he can get back match fitness and then stay out of any further injury troubles, he could well still play a decent part for us, and if so, then a possible switch in the summer. That's a fairly big 'if' though, unfortunately.

Injuries take their toll, Joniesta has had a lot and he is only 23.
I really feel for the lad. Its difficult to see him reaching his potential if he is constantly swimming against the "injury" tide.

If we have nothing to play for, is it worth putting him in to our first team ahead of others who could use the experience?

A fit Jonny Williams is a great player. Unfortunately we don't see him fit very often.

I think he will struggle to get in the team as he did when he got fit the first time this season. Such a shame as he was great in the Euros and hasn't had much of a chance since then.

At this stage in the season, with others who will get into the team before him, I doubt we will see much of him. I have to be honest and say I would prefer to see our 'own' players getting a game.

I would love to see him join in summer but could see wages, injuries and potential fee being stumbling blocks

Hmmm, Williams played the first half only. Injured again, or being saved for tomorrow?
