Benyu in Zimbabwe Squad
Friday, 19th May 2017 17:38

Midfielder Kundai Benyu has been named in the Zimbabwe squad for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia next month, his first international call-up.

The Zimbabweans host the Liberians in their opening match on Sunday 11th June and will also face Congo and DR Congo in their group as they look to qualify for the 2019 tournament in Cameroon.

Benyu was born in Camden, his family having moved from Zimbabwe. The 19-year-old has been offered new terms by the Blues after a successful loan spell at Aldershot with other clubs reportedly eyeing him.

According to Sky Sports, Benyu has rejected that contract, although we understand talks are ongoing. Town have an option to keep the academy product for another year, although there are conditions relating to it which have been the subject of talks between the club and his representatives.

Meanwhile, the Warriors are also reported to be keen on another young Town midfielder, Tristan Nydam, according to reports in Zimbabwe.

The 17-year-old was born in Harare before moving to Colchester as a child. Nydam is visiting Zimbabwe at present and reportedly hasn’t ruled out playing for the nation of his birth in the future having won his first England U18s cap this season.

He has also been named on standby for the England U20s ahead of the Toulon Tournament along with Ben Morris, while Andre Dozzell has been selected for the squad.

I hear we are in the running for Marcus Antonsson from Leeds. Didn't play much last season as Chris Wood kept him out the team. Apparently we are offering a loan deal with option to buy in January. Also had it confirmed we are not interested at all in signing Gordon Greer, complete rumour!

He has rejected contract , can see us losing some promising youngsters if MM stays as they mut be disillussioned only being selected due to injury or to prove a point in a fully weakened side

Not to worry Karl Henry another good old boy has just been released by QPR a perfect signing for Mick mc , all the youngsters may as well look elsewhere as MM is not going to play them .

Sky report added to story. Think there's a public negotiation going on.

Hopefully it's just his agent haggling for better terms in the new contract. At least we have some bargaining power this time due to the extra year option.
The Antonsson link would be an interesting one if true & would signal a more ambitious approach than we have had for a while. Can't see Leeds letting him go though as some Premiership sides are bound to offer £10m for Wood before the end of summer.

Wasn't this the lad who actually stood up to McCarthy, and was admonished publicly for it,and exiled on loan for rest of season.

Sounds like he has a mind of his own,and could be a good asset;but McCarthy will no doubt brand him a trouble maker if discussing with Evans, and doubtless Marcus will take his word as doesn't get involved with the minutia just the balance sheet!

Good luck to the lad where ever he ends up.

How is that Premier League teams only ever seem to come sniffing for players that Mick doesn't rate highly enough to get in the first team (or for that matter often even on the bench)? Think Benyu, Dozzell and Bishop as 3 more recent examples? Strange that they never seem to come calling for our first team players such as Skuse who Mick claims is Premier League quality (wtf)! Who is more on the ball, the Premier League scouts or Mick Almighty? Mick thinks he knows best but this is another clear example where those representing higher tier clubs are strongly indicating otherwise!

And Benyu should of been in the first team this year. Yet again our loss could well be somebody else's gain! We are experts in clearing out thoroughbred talent and replacing them with also rans! It makes me sick!
If Benyu goes without as much as kicking a ball for the first team then I put the blame squarely at Mick's feet!
