Town Set to Sign Adeyemi Today
Friday, 30th Jun 2017 10:31

TWTD understands that Town are set to complete the signing of free agent midfielder Tom Adeyemi later today. The 25-year-old, who is believed to have agreed a three-year deal, is out of contract having been released by Cardiff City at the end of the season and was also understood to be interesting the Blues' East Anglian rivals Norwich City, his hometown club where he started his career.

Adeyemi, who spent last season on loan with Rotherham, was first mentioned in connection with the Blues and Canaries in May, while the Millers were keen to keep him for their League One campaign.

On Monday, Rotherham boss Paul Warne said he understood that Adeyemi would end up joining either Town or Norwich.

Asked whether he had any interest in Adeyemi the same day, Blues boss Mick McCarthy kept his cards typically close to his chest.

“I’ve been linked with loads of people but if I answer a question on everybody I’ve been linked with [I’ll be here for a while], and I can’t help what people put in papers,” he said.

Born in Milton Keynes but brought up in Norwich, Adeyemi came through the youth ranks at Carrow Road and spent time on loan at Bradford, Oldham and Brentford before moving on to Birmingham on a permanent basis in 2013 having been released by the Canaries.

After a year at St Andrew’s the 6ft 1in tall midfielder joined Cardiff for a fee in excess of £1 million. Having failed to establish himself as a regular with the Bluebirds in 2014/15, he moved on to Leeds on a season-long loan the following season.

Adeyemi, who qualifies to play international football for Nigeria, joined Rotherham in August last year on a similar basis and went on to score seven goals in 29 starts and one sub appearance for the Millers.

We understand the deal will be completed today with Adeyemi officially joining the Blues tomorrow with his Cardiff contract up today.

The Blues are expected to complete the season-long loan signing of Manchester City youngster Bersant Celina from Manchester City over the weekend in time for the 20-year-old Kosovo international to join the squad when they travel to Ireland for their training camp on Monday.

MooseJuice - For Feck sake man, pull yourself together and get a grip, your taking leave of your senses & getting seduced by the spin!!! DONT BELEIVE THE HYPE. 😂

On another note, thinking about next season I now find myself in a win, win situation for probably the first time in 40+ years of being a die-hard ITFC fan, and here's why:-
1/ Many of the optimistic, deluded or victims of the SPIN (time will tell which one applies) on here are predicting that we will have a great season, that from my point of view is the absolute ideal scenario of where I want us to be, so HAPPPY DAYS on that one!
2/ If like I suspect though, it will be more of the same old sh!t as last season and we were to have another woeful season then it will be all down to that DREADED DINO who would imo get the axe, based on this, again it's HAPPY DAYS.

So there you have it chaps, it's a win, win for 'The Cat'!!!!

That's actually spot on Cat, Surely Mick lives or dies by the signings made and money spent.

I'd just like to see better football but more than that winning and a real shout for the playoffs.

It's a tough league but doable with this squad if we can make 2 or 3 more additions for depth.

If Pitman and Bru go I think we'll see 2 more

No need to explain that one Seasider, the 'sideways' bit made that obvious!

Notwithstanding his Carrow Road connections I consider this a fairly positive move by Town and hopefully he can fulfill the potential others have seen in him. I am a bit concerned about the prospects of Bishop, Dozzell and Hyam getting a look in on the 1st team as I always like to see our own home grown players progress but overall I'm feeling a bit more positive for next season.
Still not a fan of McCarthy but I support the team.

I imagine throwing Emmanuel and Moore into the mix must have influenced the deal. Could be a good one. Hope we get Emmanuel back sometime tho'. Don't want to lose yet another promising youngster.

Steve, Moore and Emmanuelle have nothing to do with this. He's been released by Cardiff and was on loan at Rotherham

So good to see some positive news and even some slightly optimistic comments from fans. Let's not kid ourselves, these won't make us world beaters or top 2 contenders but will give us a chance to be more competitive and a chance of top 6. Give the manager a chance this year. Who knows, with the fans behind the team, we may just make the playoffs.
