McGoldrick Out of Ireland Squad for Georgia Qualifier
Thursday, 31st Aug 2017 14:11

Striker David McGoldrick will miss the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifier against Georgia in Tbilisi on Saturday having withdrawn from the travelling party.

The 29-year-old was left out of the squad which flew out to Georgia this morning having stayed behind in the UK with his family, his wife having just given birth to their fourth child.

McGoldrick has previously won six full caps, so far without scoring an international goal.

Ex-Blues Daryl Murphy, Jon Walters and Conor Hourihane were all in the party which flew out to Georgia.

Ireland, who are currently second in their group and unbeaten having won three and drawn three of their six qualifiers, face Serbia in Dublin on Tuesday.

Good for him. Nice to know he is a caring husband. I hope his wife and new baby are both well.

We certainly don't want him getting injured either. It is surprising how many injuries occur during International games. Although I know players are proud to play for their countries and understandably so, I think it is more important for Ipswich for him to stay fit.
