Meet the Club at Supporters Club AGM
Wednesday, 25th Oct 2017 09:35

This season's Supporters Club AGM, which takes place on Thursday in Legends Bar, will once again take the form of an open evening where fans will have a chance to meet and question management representing many areas of Ipswich Town, among them MD Ian Milne.

In addition to Milne, the Meet the Club guests confirmed include academy manager Lee O'Neill, academy head of coaching and player development Bryan Klug, director of sales Rosie Richardson, finance director Mark Andrews, head of ticketing Donna Powell, supporter liaison officer Elizabeth Edwards and Neil Jones and Tim Claydon from Centerplate, the club's concourse catering provider, who will be providing complimentary pies.

The evening will give Supporters Club members an opportunity to ask them about their roles and raise any questions they may have.

The event starts at 7.30pm and will also include the formal business of the Supporters Club AGM.

Evidence of membership of the Supporters Club - season tickets, Silver, Ambassador or Junior Blues membership cards - must be provided at the door.

For more information on the Supporters Club AGM contact caretaker-chair Steve Doe via officialitsc@gmail.com and for information on the Meet the Club part of the evening contact Elizabeth Edwards via slo@itfc.co.uk or call 07968 876504.

I've been going since 1976. I'm not fanatically anti-Norwich, I'm not one for sacking managers, I realise Marcus Evans' money is his to do what he wants with. Basically, I'm about as mild-mannered and placid a fan as it's possible to be. But....never in my 40+ years of supporting the club have I felt so utterly undetached and disinterested. Not even during the John Duncan era have I felt less proud to be a supporter.

I remember, as a kid, feeling sorry for supporters of clubs like Middlesbrough and Coventry; clubs who never did anything. What was the point in them? What made their fans proud? Well now that's Ipswich - what is the one distinctive feature about the club? It's not it's recent history, or its special ownership. It's not its style of football or its habit of promoting the youth team. It's not years of near-misses in the play-offs or clearly being at the heart of a community. The only distinctive thing about us these days is our complete and utter lack of anything distinctive.

We're not going to go up this season and we're highly unlikely to go down. That means next season will be the same all over again. Something needs to happen to make me take interest again and to make us noticeable to the outside world. I just can't see what.

How depressingly boring.

Brilliant post. Perhaps the difference this year though is that if we go on a bad run, which looks increasingly likely, there's going to be a mutiny and something will probably happen. I'm really starting to not mind the thought of relegation, just for something different, a clean sweep (and the fact my team will be playing during international breaks!)

It could even kick off this Saturday.

Yep totally agree Swn98, we have to be careful we don't get a stubborn egotistical manager that alienates a massive portion of fan base that is turning their back in thousands. A manager that has tactics pulled from the Match annual circa 1980 that believes long ball football is the future, plays his undropables every week, ruins the natural ability of every player to accommodate his style of 'proper blokes doing a proper shift'.. we have to be careful that doesn't happen.

Swn98 - So what is it about the current management style and 'progress' in the last 2 years that you find acceptable ? Are you happy to plod on regardless afraid to change ?
As I said yesterday in 2012 when Mick took over teams currently in the prem and in top 2 of our div were in Div One - They changed and progressed - we can as well !

Spot on Gilesy 👍🏻

This club needs to get it's true values back - to do that it needs someone at the club who understands what our values once were not just stupid committee soundbites like the "#stronger as one" cobblers from last year.

Sadly it feels like those values have been lost forever.

A concerning run of form, a concerning time for the fans. Will be interesting to see what they say or if they will speil of corporate nonsense.

Need a change of manager, time for something different, fresh exciting front foot manager.

Ipswich and Norwich aren't too dissimilar in terms of cities/towns or in terms of clubs. They've been in the Premier League recently, of course, but generally we're in the same sort of league level each season. But the image of the club nationally, the feeling within the fan base, the amount of stagnation within the club or the level of realistic optimism either club's fans can feel, are worlds apart.

What are Norwich, a club more similar to us than any other (probably) doing (or have done), that we aren't (or didn't).

Yes, McCarthy probably doesn't help, but this is more than a manager. This started when we lost sense of our history and unceremoniously dumped Magilton. At the time, I was excited about Roy Keane and felt promotion would be a foregone conclusion. Wasn't I wrong!

I don't care about not being in the Premier League - the Championship is a fantastic league with some great football and capable of being truly competitive. What I care about is waking up on a Saturday and not really giving a toss, and if we lose, not really caring any more. I miss the focus and importance the club used to give me.

we're being left behind. Every club with a budget smaller than the big 6 (Man City, Man Utd, Ars, Chelski, Liverfool, Spurs) has achieved whatever relative success they've got, by having a clear game plan and then becoming better and better at executing it.
Huddersfield, Burnley, Bournemouth, Leicester, Luton, AFC Wimbledon etc etc - they don't play like each other, they chose their style and got as good at it as they can and add better players when they can.
McCarthy has achieved success in the past by playing a very recognisable style of football. He even got us into the play-offs playing it. But over last season and this, i have no idea what style we're trying to play so how can the players and how can they aim to improve week on week if they're constantly playing a different style or formation or line-up?
Forgoing the fact that this style isn't appealing to the majority of fans anyway - what we need is a clear direction and the current manager and directors don't seem to be giving that.
We seem to have our Youth teams playing a very clear and entertaining style hence the likes of Kenlock, Downes, Dozzell, Nydam all look very promising and praise be to Klug and his team - why not align the first team with that style and bring in a manager willing to do so?

Could some ask if there are discussions to extend MM's contract? If not why not? Clearly Marcus rates him so why not aim to keep him as long as possible? Of course I do not want his contract extended but it may be a passive aggressive way of questioning the management about the manager without getting their backs up and push them on what the true thoughts on Muck are. As we are constantly reminded on here there is no one better so why aren't we looking to tie MM up for another 5 years!?

i loved the late 80's - i was a teenager supporting a club that had gained successes domestically and in europe and i felt the club was rebuilding without the butchers, mariners etc and we had the kevin wilsons, dalian atkinsons, jason dozzells that became our new favourites. the club had passion - being in the north stand was a buzz and i couldnt wait for saturdays (and i lived 100 miles away). now i live 200 miles away and go about 10 times a season home and away. I still want to have an identity with the club, but i dont think that they feel the same way about the fans. Non committed owner, dinosaur manager, incredibly naive tactics and some players that just dont seem to care. The club are however very good at marketing me to spend lots more money in the club shop though!

OK we will never get another SBR (rest in peace) but i would love another Jim Magilton. Someone that cared about the club, when we lost it hurt - and just to feel the buzz on a Saturday again. Millwall away was a buzz - but only because we nearly threw it away. I want my Ipswich back.

What is the point?
I have been a Season Ticket holder since 1974. Was close not being this season but succumbed. Won't be next season unless considerable change.
Club ran by idiots - what is Evans underlying motive?
The club is heading in one direction & too many "Yes" folk inc Supporters Club doing nothing about it
I hate feeling the way I do about my club nowadays
Hate to say it but how long has an inexperienced manager up the road taken to turn things about & give supporters hope again. Certainly not the 5 years Mick has had albeit with purse strings tied by Evans

Can someone ask about the club's league target this season? MM said Sunday that he would be happy to win one lose one all season as we have been doing (putting us 11th), which would give us 69 points thereby failing to make the play-offs. Is it okay for the manager to give up already? A few years ago Magilton was sacked for missing the play-offs after beating Norwich, but here we are after a derby defeat seemingly giving up in October. Maybe MM is just realistic, as we are seriously short of quality I agree.

The follow-on question to the above is MM's contract, which I understand runs to June with an option for the club to extend it. At what point is the owner planning to take a decision on that and, linked to the above, what is the performance expectation of MM is getting a renewal? Mid-table? Keeping us up? If we roll into the final few months of MM's deal it must create uncertainly for the players especially new players we may look to sign in January.

Not to be totally negative though, it has been good to see youngsters like Dozzell, Downes and Nydam given first team starts this season. We must develop youth to have any chance of progressing as a club.

rugbytomc added 12:22 - Oct 25
results are frustrating no doubt about that, but given that the three players capable of putting their foot on the ball, controlling it, looking around and distributing it are all injured (Dozzell, Bishop and most importantly Huws) you could say that Mick has been unlucky with injuries. But given they are injured, he needs to adapt his style accordingly to get results in the meantime. If/when they are back, then try and get the ball down and pass it. Let them release the pace and danger or Ward and Celina (and maybe Rowe). what we have now is a shambles which is why everyone is so frustrated and it just compiles the misery of our now badly run club

Suspect Milne. And MM will have their excuses all ready for the AGM. Year on year this happens now.
At any other Club they would have themselves a new arse ripped , but not at Ipswich. Even Scum fans are more volatile than the passive Town following.

We almost get what we deserve..........

We need a whole re-brand.

A fresh start and a new outlook, a new manager, a new owner (ideally a rich one) and a hungry young squad who recognise what a great club we really are.

I'm hopeful for the future, things will change and get better if we boycott the games and stop spending money watching this dire football.

The only way forward for our club is mcarthy to go we will lose sat and on tues because he set the team defensively playing the un dropables skuse who cant pass wind so he has no way of passing a ball chambers is a liability time for mcarthy to go

@Carlo88 The club has already said they wont have the same resources others have had coming up from league 1. So no, we dont want to be going down anytime soon. If we do we stay there.
Club is a joke that only a budgie could find funny.

Agree with all the posts here, the club is a total joke with the exception of the academy but that literally is the only thing that we have to hold on to at the moment.

I would also like someone to bring up the fact that Bartosz Bialkowski, Cole Skuse, Jonas Knudsen, Tristan Nydam, Teddy Bishop, Luke Hyam, Kieffer Moore and Kevin Bru are all in the last year of their contracts. Why are we doing this again! Ok with the exception of Bru maybe but these players can just walk away at the end of the season if they like. Then we are left building a team yet again like we have to do year after year under MM.

The club started so well under MM but since that 1st and 2nd season we have only gone backwards. MM has not build a team to challenge over the 5 years. MM has no idea on a plan B apart from hump the ball up front. Negative defensive football. ME is elusive and spends no money. This is desperate times but I do not expect anything to change until the end of the season.

It will be an interesting month November when we still have not won a game. Watch this space.

Rensham added 13:52 - Oct 25
Hopefully MM will leave at the end of the season and we can get a young untried manager in and then have 5 years of relegation or battling relegation so Gilesy has a distinctive club for him to have a passing interest in.
