Rotherham Boss: We Will Make Moore Bid
Thursday, 21st Dec 2017 17:45

Rotherham boss Paul Warne has confirmed his club plan to make a bid for on-loan striker Kieffer Moore in January, despite Blues MD Ian Milne having said it’s unlikely that Town will look to sell the 25-year-old during the window.

Moore has scored 13 times for the League One Millers since joining them on a season-long loan at the start of the campaign with Blues manager Mick McCarthy having indicated he will cut the spell short in January, most likely after the FA Cup tie with Sheffield United for which the Torquay-born frontman is ineligible.

“Yes, we will be bidding,” Warne, whose club previously made an offer towards the end of August window, told the Sheffield Star. “That’s definite. I’ve had the conversation with the chairman.

“It’s crazy to think I wouldn’t want him. He’s been the highest scorer in England. He’s a great kid. He’s still at a good age. I think he will still improve.”

Moore was red-carded at Bristol Rovers recently and will serve the final game of his three-match ban when Rotherham take on the MK Dons at home on Saturday.

“We’ve missed him in the last couple of games,” Warne said. “Because we’ve picked up points everybody thinks, ‘Hey, there’s life after Kieffer’. I don’t look at it like that.

“I think we would have been better if he had played. I will do everything I can to try to keep him. But if the figures go out of our remit, that’s the way football is.”

Warne added: “I can see him coming back one of two ways. One, we bid the most, obviously. Two, they choose not to sell him in that the value of the bids for him do not match their expectations.

“If Ipswich get offered something nominal, then they will be in no rush to sell. If it was me and an offer didn’t come in that I wanted, then I would say, ‘Go back and add to your reputation and we’ll look at you in the summer’.

“But I also know that how clubs start January might not be how they end it. Clubs can panic and end up spending more than they were going to originally.

“I think, potentially, we could keep him. The positive part of my brain thinks it will happen. The pessimist in me thinks maybe not so. I’m hopeful, but I wouldn’t put my life on it.”

Moore, who cost Town £20,000 when he was signed from Forest Green in January, is contracted to the Blues until the end of the season with the club having an option for a further year.

...,with his contract being up in the summer would seem v stupid not to get money and agree a decent sell on clause ...

I say we take up the option of another year and sell for 3 million with 20% clause, invest on a decent CB ans attcking Right sided player. And then look at a loan option for striker cover!

^^Posh would get £3m.....we'd get £300k..

I honestly think he's worth about £800k-£1m, purely on the fact he's scored goals up to now, if we do cash in, then ffs Town make sure you get a decent sell on clause of 20%...though quite honestly having watched him twice for Rotherham I don't believe he'll get a big move anywhere unfortunately..

Moore had his chance in the Ipswich first team, albeit limited, and if memory serves me correctly, he injured some ribs and couldn't make the squad just as he was starting to improve. For £20k, he was worth a punt and it would be folly to sell him for a nominal amount when he may yet do a good job for us. Give it a chance to bear some fruit.

I can't see Rotherham being able to afford a decent fee, and there is no point giving away a goalscoring striker for peanuts given how crazy the transfer market is. I would bring him back and give him chances, and only sell if a decent bid comes in.

How anyone thinks hes worth anywhere near a million astounds me. Yes, hes done well there but its in lge1. And i would say he deserves the chance to stay there, be it on loan or permanent. Frankly any bid over £200,000 should be considered, imo, a large profit on what we paid. My opinion on that fee might be different should he stay there on loan for rest of the season and keep scoring goals. Certainly see no point in recalling him, as hes not likely to play ahead of Garner, Waghorn or Mcgoldrick.

Rotherham's transfer record is around £500k. To think Moore is worth much more than that based on just a handful of games is wishful tbh.

Money is virtually irrelevant under this regime. SO WHAT if we get 200k or a million.. As fans we don't care about the financial side of things, only its influence on the team. Everyone knows we need a defender right now (urgently) and IF selling moore helps in that quest then great. Otherwise, we should bring him back and bulk up our wafer thin squad.

Leave him there, our squad is not paper thin in the striking department at the moment, we are not struggling to find the net!

Moore is a real mystery. Evidently couldn't hold a place in F G Rovers , didn't (get much of a chance to ) do much for us, but is now the highest scorer in the leagues. I think he would be a lot happier at R'ham, and personally I'd sell and invest in the team.

My guess is an offer in the region of £250k would be forthcoming which would fund the loan of a 3rd goalkeeper so i expect it would be accepted. If ITFC could make a fist of trying to get into the top 6,that would make a good season.Moore may or may not fulfil the promise he's showing so just put a sell on clause into the deal and job done.

Suspect his value won't be as much as folk think. £300-400K. Maybe. Either way, if he goes I'd expect the funds to be reinvested into the playing squad.

If Milne says no sale then we will almost certainly do it. He will not get a game here. Our forwards are doing well. Sell with a sell on clause but reinvest. That would be a new concept!!

If I trusted the club, I would say hold out for a decent fee, sell and get a half decent CB in with the proceeds.

As I have neither trust nor faith I suspect that we'll be told that a ‘bonkers bid' has been received; he'll get sold early in the window for an undisclosed fee with some platitudes around reinvesting. We'll then dilly dally through January with a loaner 35 year old from Doncaster that no one has ever heard of arriving at 11pm on the 31st.

Ian ‘the powers that be' Milne will then come out and tell us how lucky we are.

God how I'd love to be wrong.

I suspect that he didn't score goals for us last season due to lack of chances and poor service. Rotherham have simply cured both problems, albeit at a slightly lower level. I can't see him playing for us regularly, so sell for the best price we can get and reinvest.

It would be madness for the club to say they want to sell, even if we did want to. Rotherham's bid will be higher than it would have been if we are making noises about bringing him back and not wanting to sell.

If he was a Rotherham player and the top scorer in England then there would be a queue to sign him, and Rotherham who have no reason or want to let him go would demand / expect to get in excess of £1m (probably nearer £2m).
Teams in the Championship will be looking to bolster their play-off / promotion chances by investing a small amount (relatively) in a player that can score goals.
We however already have him and have the option of an additional year so there is no real need to sell him. We could even try 2 up front :-)
Play to his strengths and he may be worth £3m+ or even a bonkers offer (sorry !!!)
Need to keep players like Moore, and look to offload some more deadwood who have no real future like Hyam and dare I say it McGoldrick (who actually I am a big fan of)
