McCarthy: Kieffer's Head is Elsewhere and He Will Leave
Friday, 5th Jan 2018 14:06

Town boss Mick McCarthy says striker Kieffer Moore’s future will be decided over the next few days but confirmed that the 25-year-old will be leaving Portman Road with his head “elsewhere”.

Earlier today, Barnsley were reported to have agreed a fee of £750,000 for the 6ft 5in tall frontman, who was recently recalled from his highly successful loan spell at Rotherham, with claims he had already undergone a medical, although that appears to be jumping the gun slightly even if Oakwell appears certain to be his destination.

“It’ll be decided over the next few days,” McCarthy said. “He’s cup-tied anyway so he’s not involved with us.

“He trained with us yesterday and his head’s not really here, that’s for certain. He was hardly well-liked or loved here, I remember the crowd cheering when he headed a ball at one stage when he was here.

“But he’s gone and improved, he had a great time at Rotherham, he’s much more loved and revered and thought more of up there, that’s for sure.

“And I could tell yesterday when he trained, there’s a lot of interest in him and I think his head is elsewhere and I think he will probably end up elsewhere.”

Asked whether the club has accepted any bids, McCarthy added: “I’m not sure. There’s a lot of people interested.”

Is he surprised that the interest from various clubs has been so public with the Millers, Peterborough and Bradford confirming their interest and Charlton, Wigan and Scunthorpe also understood to be among the suitors.

“Not really. You know how much that bothers me,” the Blues boss added. “This is my bothered face. In a day when we have all the social media that goes on, never mind people talking, people sending messages all around the world, it’s very hard to keep anything quiet.

“Why would it be kept quiet, the end result of all this is that he either stayed at Rotherham, he came back and played with us and if he came back and played with us in one game, he couldn’t go anywhere else then, couldn’t be loaned out because of the two-club rule.

“We bring him back and he’s not playing in front of Garns and Waggy, that’s for sure. He doesn’t want to come back and be on the bench. He’s just had a great time, has scored 13 goals in League One. Kieffer’s head is elsewhere and I’m cool with that.”

Has he thought about keeping him for the longer term? “We’ve got an option on him and we could keep him, but not really, not when I think he’s ready to leave. He wants to leave.

“I can’t bring him back and give him reassurance, ‘By the way, I’ll put you in the team’. Really? No Garns, no Waggy, put Kieffer in the team? I don’t see that happening to be quite honest with you.”

I am unsure exactly what you were expecting Mick.
You comments of no one likes him is justification for you getting rid.
Playing 5 mins here and 10 mins there chasing aimless hoofballs is no good for anyone.
Was told to go to Rotherham and prove himself and has done just that, and then told he still could not get in place of the likes of Sears...so why was his head elsewhere ???
Here is a thought Mick...Play Moore and Garner up front together with Waghorn just behind. Allow Celina and Ward to be offensive and not always have to fill in at full back.
Apparently you have the best defensive midfielder in the division (Prem Class) in Shuse so why everyone else still has to cover defensively I do not know.
Play to our strengths and try to win games, this is all most of us ask

I just like to come on here and talk nonsense from time to time.

....... one would have hoped less bile would be forthcoming from Swn98 in the New Year - far too much to expect, as indeed success and entertainment is from McCarthy.

Nothing changes - other than the crowd continues to deplete. To any sane mind, i REPEAT SANE, that has to be worrying.

....... of course we cannot leave any of our stars out of the team Mick - after all we managed 1 point from a possible 12 - and only lost 1-4 to Fulham in our last game.

Some still appear 'happy clappie' with your performance Mick, which should ensure your contract is renewed at the end of the season. That's if you decide to stay of course, which as you have stated, will be your decision.

No doubt Barcelona etc; can't wait for your availability...... !!!

He didn't get a nickname so we know that Mick didn't fancy his chances here.

It's not often that I'm directly critical of MM but whilst I agree that KM has had a lot of smoke blown up his backside of late, he's had a pretty strange 12 months that he'll be glad to draw a line under.
Plucked from nowhere, not really given a chance in a struggling team, sent out on a massively successful loan, recalled, not given a chance at his parent club again, and by the looks of things subsequently sold more than MM has spent on a player in years. Why the apparent bitterness?
I suspect this works out best for all parties. KM gets a game and a chance to prove himself at Championships level and ITFC makes a handsome profit.

A shame of course that ‘player wages' will miraculously account for the money with no tangible benefit, but that's the modern day smoke and mirrors ITFC for you.

By the way, is it too early to pour scorn on Ian ‘not aware of any plans to sell' Milne yet?

Lots of talk about Moore,Bart, and Didsy going;but no mention of Freddie Sears departing.
I wonder why?

Because of all the players mentioned he is the one that has made the least impact, both last season and this. Not that it is all his fault as he has mostly been played out of position.

I suppose that no club will want him now;but we certainly would not miss him, whereas we will the others to a certain degree.

Looks like Barnsley have now found some money with a new owner. This happens mostly on a TAKEOVER as it did initially with us;but in the ten years that Evans has owned the club,he has taken us down to one of the poorer Championship clubs, and we now look to have been overtaken by yet another club in Barnsley.Do they fancy a Yorkshireman to manage a Yorkshire club as we have one !!!

Bluebore for someone who professes not to go to matches you have a lot to say about the state of our club.
Supporters staying way adds to the decline of our club.
I fully understand everyone has a free choice.

Whatever happens, nobody is coming out of this saga with much credit.

I wish him luck as I thought he could be a good player if given more than 5 mins at the end of games and I think the cheers were that he was able to contribute I hope he doesn't turn out to be a good championship player as he clearly knows where the goal is as that doesn't change what ever league you are in and that the boy drinnan is a better player already sounds as if he is a Mick favourite

Well notwithstanding the comments from MM I think each of the main players come out as winners. We get a decent transfer fee, KM gets a move and better pay and gametime and Barnsley gets a forward who has been scoring solidly.
Surprised by the rather sour tone of MM''s comments. Perhaps KM has come back a little more confident than when he left and is not throwing himself around in training, who knows

People drive me insane on here anything he says he's wrong. 1+1=2 oh mm why have you said such utter tosh he's wrong get him gone. It amazes me as when km was first loaned out everyone was happy about now we're making prof everyone hates mm I hope does go and we get relegated next season cos there's certain people on here who'd soon back track esp bkueboy who's stated garner isn't inspiring Bart was going to Sunderland and waghorn wasn't coming you talk more tosh than mm mate facts are there

Am i the only one who believes KM has his head elsewhere due to the huge wage he will receive as opposed to what he'd get at ITFC? Personally,i would cash in as it's another piece of amazing business from MM.However,i think KM is leaving for salary and not the the lack of match time that may/may not be forthcoming here.I don't blame him, phenominal wage,i wish him well.
