Legia Stepping Up Bru Interest
Wednesday, 17th Jan 2018 21:50

Polish champions Legia Warsaw are reported to be stepping up their interest in Blues midfielder Kevin Bru.

Legia, who currently lead the Ekstraklasa, were first mentioned in connection with Bru on Friday when they, unnamed Belgian sides and Cardiff were said to be showing interest, while French clubs Toulouse, who the Paris-born Mauritius international almost joined in August, and Saint-Etienne had made enquiries.

According to various reports in Poland, Legia are looking more seriously at Bru, 29, after a move for Rennes midfielder Yacouba Sylla broke down, the Mali international subsequently joining Belgian club Mechelen.

Bru, who is out of contract at the end of the season, was free to find himself a new club in the summer and came close to joining Toulouse in August but the move broke down late on the final day of the transfer window.

Speaking last Friday, Blues boss Mick McCarthy said he wasn’t aware of any January interest in Bru and that he could stay at Portman Road for the rest of the season due to Town’s continuing midfield injury problems.

Asked if Bru would be allowed to leave this month, McCarthy said: “Not at the moment, no. I’ve no intention of doing that and, I have to be honest, nobody’s been banging my door down, we’re two weeks into the transfer window.

“No, I’ve no intention of that happening. That might change if somebody comes in and offers him a three-year deal somewhere, he might want to go, but that’s not been the case.”

You know what. Back up centre midfielder who if everyone was fit would be about 6th or 7th choice or go to a team do well and play in Europe next season? I know what I would do.

Agree Owain, bt to be honest I'd let them have him if we can get our first choice fit. He has proved time and again he is not up to it. Whatever standard is the Polish league for the champions to be coming in for him? Wow.

Don't really see why Legia Warsaw are so interested. This is a team that has beaten Benfica, Porto and Juventus in the last year and earned a very credible draw against Real Madrid.

Given our injuries...there is no way we can afford to lose him right now.

Just looked at their FIFA club ranking. They are higher than West Ham, Stoke, Southampton , Marseilles, Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt and Everton. It'd be a big move up for Bru.

Perhaps all these teams are interested in his footballing ability rather that his hoofing and chasing ability.
Good luck to the lad, he is certainly not wanted here by the management (I use that term loosely btw)

Can we afford to let him go now?

I can't believe we have so many long term injuries! Just wtf is going on at this Club now a days???

ArnieM:

We can't afford to let him go...but if he's offered a 3 year deal at Legia Warsaw (playing with the likes of Eduardo and Radovic)...then it's hard to see how MM can make him stay. As soon as some of our midfielders are fit again, we all know Bru will lose his place. A move will give him a chance to play in the Europa League next season against some of the best in the game. Bru will need to do what is best for him.

When we play the ball on the ground he actually looks ok but how often does that happen??????. Whats the real problem??????

Personally think Bru is a very competent neat footballer who in a good side who play a passing game would be ok . MM's style is why so many of our midfielders don't look much or don't live up to potential not that they are poor players .
I don't see how is 6th or 7th choice behind midfielders who never play more than a handful of games Huws , Hyam , Bishop , Ademyi wont make up a season between them again

We'd better keep him as his wages for the rest of the season won't amount to much & Evans won't fund a decent midfield replacement. Best to assume none of our injured midfield players will be back this season.
Though, if Legia Warsaw offered him a decent deal, could see why he'd be keen to move.

Any ball playing midfielder with natural ability will rarely get a chance to shine with MM , Oh unless he is a 'winger' but then he will have to spend most of his time working back - Infact we play our strikers on the wing instead - You know what - Good luck to ya Kev , if true I would bite their hand off . He may get a chance to play the ball to feet

At this rate we might be entering a 5 aside league next season!

On another note great to see that Norwich are having a mass clear out ready for when reality kicks in next season. With our youth system coming through the balance of power is shifting imo

After being told to leave, who would be surprised if he took the hint and left?

In his second season with us Bruuuuu seemed like he could really be the box-to-box solution we ere looking for, but when a manager picks Skuglas ahead of you either there is something wrong with the player or the manager. In this case i suspect both.

Don't want to see him go, but i think there is a better player in there than we will ever see again at FPR that might just shine in a different league. Currently i don't think he so far ahead of our U23 guys, certainly not in MM's pecking order, so whilst we are light in midfield a move probably makes sense......and with our best wishes for a good servant to the Club who at the very least always tried to play football with a seemingly genuine affection for our badge.

Not the only one to think this, but when Bru arrived everyone could see there was a tidy footballer in there, but it's what Mick says that goes. Mick has taken that confidence out of him and that is why he isn't the player he once was! Get in a real manager who plays the ball on the deck and we'll see the Bru we all know!! Mick is the problem!!

So, he could have walked out of the Club in the Summer but didn't have anywhere to go. He kept himself fit and has done a job filling in without rocking the boat (as far as we know), now a number of clubs are showing interest in him. Hasn't there been a huge misjudgement of his value even if McCarthy doesn't want him? Couldn't we have got money for him? Why are these clubs showing interest? Yet another contract being run down shows very poor business management, doesn't it Mr Milne?

agree with shakytown:

bru has always look solid with the ball, the hoofball tactics clearly dont suit him let alone anyone in out team tbh!

we all know what the biggest issue is... would be a good move for him and wish him all the best if it happens

An underrated central midfielder. One of very few ITFC players who constantly demand the ball regardless of the situation. Under a different manager has potential to be one of the best in the championship, mark my words.
Current situation means we cannot afford to let him go. if a new manager (Mark Warburton) comes in the summer, would love to see him stay longer. Really underrated midfielder.

One of our very few uninjured players who can create something from open play (I would put Celina and McGoldrick in that category too). Good passer of the ball, keeps himself fit and always eager to play. I can understand why Cardiff want him. In a passing team he could be one of the best midfielders in this league.

Bru like many of our squad haven't shone for sometime, hence lack of real interest in them
