Police Praise Fans After Derby
Sunday, 18th Feb 2018 18:05

Norfolk Police have praised both sets of fans for showing a “good spirit” during today’s East Anglian derby between the Blues and Norwich City at Carrow Road, however, 12 arrests were made either before and during the match.

Seven supporters were arrested for criminal damage offences, three for assaults and two for being drunk and disorderly, while several direction to leave notices were also issued.

Matchday policing commander, Superintendent Dave Marshall, said: "Overall there was good spirit between both sets of fans resulting in minimal disorder.

"The policing operation was firm in places and these tactics were used to ensure supporters enjoyed the game and journeys to and from the stadium in a safe environment.

"A number of fans were given direction to leave notices as a result of their behaviour, which was enough to cause concern for officers who took this reactive measure in a bid to prevent disorder.

“These supporters had been spoken to by police and were fully aware of the standards of behaviour expected, but sadly their conduct fell short of this resulting in police taking action.

"Additional cordons were also put in place to ensure the safety of those attending after the match and I would like to thank away fans for their patience and their co-operation during this time.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in the away section in which lights were damaged.

News update.

Police are, however, looking for a middle aged man alleged to have shouted obscenities in the stadium.

If seen, police have advised civilians not to approach him, as he has exhibited erratic and potentially violent behaviour.

If anyone has any information about his whereabouts, they are requested to contact the Norfolk constabulary.

From what I experienced I thought as usual 98% of fans from both clubs were fine and there was plenty of the usual banter which is to be expected.
Sadly there are the remaining 2% who evidently don't have a brain cell in their heads which cross the line.
I thought the Police did a very good job under very trying circumstances. Some of the verbal abuse at the end of the match was unnecessary and showed a complete lack of self respect.

The club should ask the police, why were the away fans kept in a cramped and crowded area of the ground for 20-25 minutes after the game - and then allowed the Home fans to gather directly next to where the away fans were directed post match. This caused a flash point which could easily have been avoided if the home fans had been stopped from coming around the east stand, by being directed towards the north end of the ground. It was nuts.

In contrast, when the budgies (and other big away gatherings) come to Portman Rd, they take precedent and are funnelled away towards the station before the SBR stand can empty.

But it's ok for the so called Ipswich fans to tell Mick he is S@@@ because of a substitute he brought on and they get all upset when he tells them to f@@@ off.
Double standards by the fans and they will all be happy when he goes and a year down the line they will be moaning at the new manager because Town are not top of the table.....pathetic

Carlos, "you're football is sh it" is an opinion/observation. Fans are entitled to that. How do you know our next manager will not do well? Stop being so defensive of MM but pessimistic regarding any future not involving him!! Have some ambition.

Norfolk Police demonstrates once again their contempt for law abiding Ipswich Town fans at scum vile. They little Hitkers on horse back at the end of the game CREATED a hostile response from largely patient Town fans who became understandably frustrated at being pend in behindbthe stand after the game for over 20 mins. There was 2,000 fans crammed into a small space. When the Town fans became restless and started to push forward it then became a volatile and dangerous situation as fans were beginning to be crushed . When a Town fan asked one of coppers “what is going and why can't we leave”, he replied he had no idea!
When the situation became more serious and the Police started lose control of the situation Town fans forced their way out .......!only to be met by scum fans who 20-30 mins AFTER the game had ended were still allowed to congregate and goad Town fans as they left.

WHAT A BLOODY COCK UP by NORFOLK POLICE - AGAIN !!!
1) WHY, had they not enforced a much larger gap between rival fans?
2) WHY had the Norfolk Police once again , not moved scum fans on away from the ground??

Only manager the town fans have liked is Sir Bobby and even he was given a hard time when he first started.
Lyall and Burley did well at Ipswich but they soon turned on them and so far Jewell Keane Magilton and McCarthy.....they are never happy.....not a fan of MM football but think it's hipacrical of the fans moan at MM language when they are calling him......but if it's only the fans opinion so in the same case it's only MM opinion.
Just sick of the the if we are not winning 5-0 then Town are the worst team in the world

Karlosfandangal. Town fans are NOT expecting sweeping wins every week or Brazilian style football. Gives us more credit than that !!

What we ARE expecting - God forbid, is decent football. With a by and large attacking , entertaining ethos. Players played in the correct positions ( by and large) and if not , then for out of position players to be played there as a temporary measure . Not seasonsvat a time. We expect our young guns to be given a fair run in the first team ,( if good enough). If Burky and SBR could do this st Premier League level, then McCarthy sure as hell could bloody well do it at CC level.

Is that REALLY too much to ask for.

As for the mud slinging between fans and manager. Well McCarthy only only has himself to bkame. He's one arrogant, egotistical piece of work, who has “ lost” the fans and players at all of his previous jobs before being given his marching orders. The problem here is Evans doesn't like to part with his money and bloody sack him!!

I've said this on another thread; he should remain professional (being the manager of a professional football club) regardless of how he feels about the style he is using, being rightly so, slated. His actions are bang out of line and should be punished accordingly. Managers of large businesses, do not swear at their customers or staff when criticised, they look to improve their performance to stop discontent.
