Watford Youngster on Trial
Tuesday, 17th Apr 2018 22:21

TWTD understands Watford youngster Dennon Lewis is on trial with the Blues having been told he will be released by the Hornets at the end of the season.

The 20-year-old, who learned he will not be offered new terms at Vicarage Road last week, played for Town’s U23s as they were beaten 2-1 at Huddersfield on Monday.

Born in Brent, Lewis (pictured above in action in an FA Youth Cup tie for the Hornets against Norwich when an U18) joined the Watford academy as an U11 and progressed through the ranks, signing his first professional deal in 2015.

Able to operate in a number of roles including full-back, winger and up front, Lewis spent time on loan in the Vanarama National League with Woking in 2016/17, where he made 23 starts and six sub appearances, scoring four times.

Lewis, who is 5ft 10in tall, was on loan in League Two with Crawley during the first half of this season, making six starts and eight sub appearances without finding the net.

What's the point. We don't have a permanent manager. He may not want him.

I'm sure Bryan Klug has an eye for a good youngster, so it would be stupid not to have a look just because we are inbetween Managers. If he's any good Klug would recommend keeping him. His opinion would surely be respected as far as young talent is concerned.

We have an interim manager who probably knows more about youngsters than you & me put together.

Do you know what........I'm going to give you a minus just for being negative.........so...........bosh!

The football world is full of players who needed to move to find their feet in the game. He may not be as talented as some of the youngsters we let go at a similar age (yes, Rhodes) but in Klug we trust !

seems a bit young to manage us, but will no doubt be better than the last 3 managers...

1RWR. Thanks for the feedback. Sometimes I do put a comment to see what kind of response I may get. Your comment is a fair response mind. In all honestly there is no harm in looking at release youngsters. One mans poison is another mans treasure. Lets hope these youngster come through.

That record doesn't come close to Marriott at Woking and we let him go!

MM let him go. Personally I had nothing to do with it.

Worth a look at, would trust Klug's judgement over most in the game. Believe he is predominantly a winger, always believe he has a release clause of £1.5 million in his current deal with Watford which would suggest they certainly rated him at one point.

Lightning Blue by the way, why so negative.....i vote for account deletion.

Had this been a story from a week ago, it would have read 'Waterford youngster on trial'
Thank god Mick has gone, just pray that Marcus gets it right!

Slightly off message;but concerning young players coming through.

Admit have not been to Playford Rd recently, call it my boycott;but continued to go to Portman Rd.

I have been concerned at the lack of stature in our team recently. No I don't want a 'Land of the Giants' as Big Joe used to call Stoke;but think that we need one or two bigger lads, especially up front,to make the ball stick.

I am not an advocate of 'hoofing' any more than 'tippy tappy footy' going round in circles.A nice mixture of these, plus pass and move forward, and off the ball would suffice though.

Have only seen bits of under 18's and 23's recently;but would appear that some of the lads fit the 6ft and over category.

Perhaps some of the Playford Rd regulars could confirm this(or otherwise)

If I lived in the Ipswich area would have continued to go;but reside in neigbouring county.

Given our budget. These are the types of player i would be looking to bring in. Not cut it for a prem side . but clearly talented and someone we could sell on for a profit should they do the stuff for us for a season or three
