Edwards: Positive Chambo Lifted Spirits After Birmingham Disappointment Monday, 1st Oct 2018 16:59 Town new boy Gwion Edwards has told how skipper Luke Chambers set about rallying the troops after their wait for a first win of the season was extended to 10 league games at the weekend. In the dressing room and on the bus journey home, Chambers did his best to lift morale after Town had to settle for one point at Birmingham on Saturday, despite having led 2-0 at the break. Edwards, 25, said: “Chambo’s a great lad and it was typical of him to do that. He’s potentially the best captain I’ve ever had to be honest. Every day he comes in, he’s positive and gets the lads going. “If he sees someone who is a bit down or frustrated he is always there to pick them up. It’s good to have someone like that around when things like this are happening at the club, where we can’t exactly get a win. “We were obviously all frustrated after Saturday’s game and a few of the heads were down. But Luke’s gone round and we’ve picked ourselves up. We had a chat and if you look at it I think a lot of positives came from the game. “We scored two goals but we caused our own mistakes again because if we had cleared the ball a bit better we could have hung on in there. “I think we did well to stay in the game in the end because they had a few more chances where they could have nicked it. “We showed good character to stay in the game and hopefully we can build on it and get it right tomorrow night against Middlesbrough.” Edwards is determined to look on the bright side because although that first win continues to elude them Town’s position has improved. They are off the bottom of the table and remain unbeaten at home, while the 2-2 scoreline at St Andrew’s meant they pocketed their first away point on the road under boss Paul Hurst. The Welsh winger, signed in the summer from Peterborough, added: “We keep saying it but we’re not being battered by teams. We’re in the games and we’re getting chances to win games, so that’s a positive. “It’s only a matter of time now until something’s going to click and we’re going to start kicking on. “At half-time on Saturday we were obviously in a really good position but we knew it wasn’t over and that Birmingham would come out strongly for the second half. “It’s those little mistakes, lapses in concentration, switching on and adapting to where the game changes. We’ve addressed that on the training pitch today and we’ll be ready for tomorrow night. “The Birmingham game changed towards the end of the first half and they got their first goal soon after the restart. After that we didn’t really get a grip of it or take control of it. “They obviously had the momentum and it was hard for us to get the ball down and play to try to put the game to bed. “We’re all frustrated that we’ve not had a win yet but we’re all positive and everyone is ready to go again against Middlesbrough, which is a good thing. “It’s not a case of everyone being down in the dumps. We’re all bright and looking forward to tomorrow’s game. “We’re picking up points — one in each of our last three games — and that is a great positive. “If we were losing almost every game I don’t think I’d be sat here smiling. We’ve got to be positive and stick together, and keep the fans coming because they’ve been great as well.”
