Town Closing in On Hull Striker Keane
Wednesday, 2nd Jan 2019 14:35

Town are reportedly closing in on the signing of Hull City striker Will Keane.

According to HITC Sport, the club is in talks with the Tigers regarding Keane and TWTD understands there is substance to the report.

The 25-year-old is on the fringes at the KCOM Stadium and manager Nigel Adkins is said to be willing to allow him to depart.

Stockport-born Keane, who is out of contract at the end of the season, came through the ranks at Manchester United where he made two sub appearances in the Premier League and spent spells out on loan at Wigan, QPR, Sheffield Wednesday and Preston.

In August 2016, Hull paid the Red Devils a reported £1.02 million for 6ft 2in tall Keane, who has been capped by England at U16, U17, U19, U20 and U21 levels.

A serious knee ligament injury - the second of his career, he previously missed the whole of the 2012/13 campaign - saw him sidelined for more than a year of football with the Tigers and he has made only 11 starts and 15 sub appearances, scoring once, since making his move to East Yorkshire.

Overall, Keane, whose twin brother is England international centre-half Michael, has netted only six senior goals in 45 starts and 33 games from the bench.

This season he has made one Championship start - the 2-0 win at Leeds last Saturday - and seven sub appearances, in addition to two games in the EFL Cup, without finding the net.

Manager Paul Lambert is on the lookout for two strikers during the January transfer window with a big number nine a priority as he looks to turn Town’s season around in the second half of the campaign.

Jas0999, what happens if we pick up yet more injuries? A shallow squad is one that ends up in our situation, not digs themselves out of it!

Quite obviously we need a target man. I watched this game yesterday and I felt, at times, that Ellis didn't try to chase down lost causes in the first half. It seemed that if the ball didn't get into his feet he was never going to chase anything down. had he done that maybe their defence would made errors as they were no more convincing than our own back line. Some of the doom and gloom merchants on here are not what is required right now. In all honesty I don't see a charge of the cavalry to come and help us out. It's easy for some players to sit tight and take the money, feign injury, and we have seen our fair share of that type over the last 4 years. Now more than ever this team needs our upmost support.

Don't forget McGoldrick was a sick note until he left here. Surprising what a change of club can do!!!!

At the end of the day we have nothing to lose,he might scare a few goals and we may keep him,or me might score nothing so come may we say victory oscaf,,or just maybe he scores75 goals in 25 games and every time did and Harry wants him.

Not wishing to blight the man seems like a good itfc candidate been injured for 12 months.

Lets see him play before we judge. Lambert has a habit of getting it right.

I agree with Swn98 above...think he is the right kind of player for us. Clearly wants to restart his career and if he's permanent will do well in league 1. Exactly the sort of player we should be looking for. Poor guy can hardly be blamed for having an injury....

Worth pointing out that it's a tough choice joining us right now....we aren't exactly the most exciting prospect. I hope we see a large target man signed in the next few days also....

He hasn't got it right re Spence.
And dare I say Chambers....Totally awful players, who play game in game out.

Guentchev. Yes the right player to keep the treatment table warm, ready for Huws return.

Hard to judge somebody from YouTube highlights but from that video I wouldn't say there are enough highlights to get me over excited. When I saw Waghorn's highlight video prior to us just signing him I was immediately impressed, this guy is a long way off from there. Even so, he could be ready to grab the opportunity and at least he wants to come here which deserves some credit straight away. So let's hope it works out all round. Probably best to reserve judgement until he's had a some time to show us what he's got in a blue shirt rather than any other before. If he gets a couple of goals in his first few games then needless to say any early doubts will have evaporated fast.

And his goal scoring record isn't great either but then we've signed players with worst records such as Luke Varney who went on to bag a huge goal tally of 1 goal in 33 games for Burton after leaving us! Never rated Varney although I know he tried his hardest but sadly he just didn't have quality required. Hopefully Keane can deliver more of a goal threat than Varney if not this isn't going to fall well short of what's needed to save our bacon.

Looked in depth at his injury record. Two huge injuries; Not been lucky on that front.

From what I have been reading he isn't really a target man either. Perhaps we are also targeting someone else?

We have grafting forwards already, surely the priority is goals? ...and a defender to get control of things at the back.

Just rely on Paul Lambert to be the best judge on choice of players he brings in, and available to him- he will be a far better judge than any of us punters.

Leave the man to do the job he knows best.

Massive month for the town. Will beat Accrington 6-0 then we will go on a winning streak to the end of the season! Roomers Rooney was spotted on the A12? COYB.

Not sure I'm Keane on him.

Rooney did offer his services for free but Evans says he is looking for a taller striker? Crouch?

Get real people - anyone would think we are in a position to be attractive to the likes of Messi.

People must realise that we are most certainly not as attractive to players as we once were - there was a time when almost any player would have been interested in gracing Portman Road - but NOT now.

I was obviously joking about Rooney and Crouch. Lambert will get the best he can get with us in a big hole. A descent player in each part of the team. Keeper, defender, midfield and goal getter!

Like anything in life, you get what you pay for.
If Evans wants to keep this club in the Championship, he's no doubt got the dollar to do it.
If we are prepared to pay, then we will be attractive. Money talks, regardless of league position.

Brave move by our manager. If Keane comes into form,we could see a fair few goals off him. On the other hand, he could end up in the medical room with Adeyemi and Huws. I'd describe him as an "uncertain" signing. Still, needs a 6ft 6 powerhouse to play alongside him. Plus a winger to supply him chances.

Even if we do start scoring goals, we need to sort out our defence. Pennington and Spence shouldn't be first-choice. I'd happily take CCV at centre-back. Right-back more difficult but I see that Cedric is likely to be made available by southampton to a championship club. Take him if wages available.
