Town Closing in On Hull Striker Keane
Wednesday, 2nd Jan 2019 14:35

Town are reportedly closing in on the signing of Hull City striker Will Keane.

According to HITC Sport, the club is in talks with the Tigers regarding Keane and TWTD understands there is substance to the report.

The 25-year-old is on the fringes at the KCOM Stadium and manager Nigel Adkins is said to be willing to allow him to depart.

Stockport-born Keane, who is out of contract at the end of the season, came through the ranks at Manchester United where he made two sub appearances in the Premier League and spent spells out on loan at Wigan, QPR, Sheffield Wednesday and Preston.

In August 2016, Hull paid the Red Devils a reported £1.02 million for 6ft 2in tall Keane, who has been capped by England at U16, U17, U19, U20 and U21 levels.

A serious knee ligament injury - the second of his career, he previously missed the whole of the 2012/13 campaign - saw him sidelined for more than a year of football with the Tigers and he has made only 11 starts and 15 sub appearances, scoring once, since making his move to East Yorkshire.

Overall, Keane, whose twin brother is England international centre-half Michael, has netted only six senior goals in 45 starts and 33 games from the bench.

This season he has made one Championship start - the 2-0 win at Leeds last Saturday - and seven sub appearances, in addition to two games in the EFL Cup, without finding the net.

Manager Paul Lambert is on the lookout for two strikers during the January transfer window with a big number nine a priority as he looks to turn Town’s season around in the second half of the campaign.

At least PL is trying to get these guys in early, he knows he's really up against it to keep us up like us fans. It'll be tough going but let's at least give it a good go, i'd rather us go down fighting than lying down! COYB

Could be a decent signing I reckon, offers something different. I'd take a punt given our situation.

Not a bad player to be Fair, i think he would be a great addition along with others.

I trust PL completely.

What we lost when Walters got injured was the ability to score the goal we scored against Norwich. Someone with a great touch and a bit of presence - and nowse. Being right place right time to create for others running into and around the box.

Clearly thin waters as others have said but I repeat: I trust PL completely.

If it goes wrong, we must all hold our hands up and say Lambert had his back against the wall and give him a proper chance again in the summer and beyond to rebuild up in his vision, which is the right one for the club and fans.

If it goes right: messiah!

Algarve fan: a team full of teenagers isn't going to get us promoted from League 1 (if we go down). I agree we don't want to lose any of our talented younger players but we will need older and more experienced ones to make up the bulk of the team. The way pl is doing it at the moment seems the correct way to go about it,namely playing a outlets of the younger players in every game, but ringing the changes so that they don't burn out.

With the greatest of respect to the three players we believe will/have signed this window, none suggest they'll keep the Club up.Has ME learn't nothing?£5-£6M spend required to get some proven quality in.

This chap could be a useful signing. It's a shame that Jackson, Harrison and Sears can't get a bit of consistency together along with Lankaster who's being integrated on a slower basis, as all have shown potential on a ‘few'occasions, then we could invest all the money where it's much more needed, that being the back 5!

Kean and Elder are both good punts in my view, yes maybe not a considerable amount of Championship experience but both offer something we are currently missing. Whilst I think Myles Kenlock does offer more going forward than Knudsen I don't think Myles is the greatest of defenders, we need a maurading left back who can defend and put some decent balls into the box, by all accounts this guy has this type of capability, so I think he may strengthen us in this area.

Kean will offer us a 6ft 2 physical presence up front and be a target man which Ellis Harrison at 3 inches shorter does at times struggle but I think Ellis will make the grade with us after a season or two but needs the burden shared in this respect.

Realistically both of these players could be signed up in the summer if they prove themselves over the next 4 months - at their current ages they both have something to prove but have also shown talent in their early careers and probably accept they may have to drop down to Division 1 to get contracts with regular playing opportunities. So they fit the bill for me, one will replace Knudsen, and I can't see us keeping Spence, Ward, Adeyemi, for next year. Inevitably others might have to be sold but we do seem top heavy in some areas and light in others and this is what PL is trying to address.

Give our squad a bit more experience and physicality then I truly believe PL will have the encouragement to build his team to take us back up again at the first attempt. Obvious it is depressing to have to accept that in all likelihood the task of staying in the championship now looks well beyond us, however, let's try and support PL in creating something more exciting than we have seen in the last few years. A few good results, perhaps a bit of a cup run and trying to cement a brand of football that gives us hope for the future will hopefully encourage PL to stay and see the job through.

The Championship is a tough league and teams like Wigan, Millwall, Barnsley, Rotherham are yo yo clubs and Bolton could be joining them, clearly we want to avoid becoming another club like these, I do believe if we can keep PL we will see a sensible mix of playing good youngsters, identifying the correct experienced players to bring to the club and providing a system and coaching that will truly improve the players we have or bring to the club.

He can't be that bad he was at Man Utd. Looks like he needs a new start somewhere. If we can offer him games let's hope he repays us with goals. Can we sign his twin brother Michael as well haha!! Be interesting who the other striker/targetman is Pl wants.

Hhmmm...not prolific but then again hasn't been playing for the last couple of years due to knee injuries. Wish him well but feel we might need a bit more proven quality upfront.

He has scored less goals than Luke Chambers so why are so many people excited by this ?

It always seems a bit of a lottery with guys like this. Fallen out of favour with their respective clubs, perhaps not quite "up to speed"? That said, he's a good mix of age and experience and I've no doubt that PL would get the best out of him. This is the kind of player we have to expect and hope it works out. Forget Murphy coming back, he's on form and getting minutes at Forest.

Was expecting a load of uninformed negative comments about this but pleased to see they're in the minority. He might not have the best goal scoring record but if Lambert thinks he's worth going for then I for one will welcome him. Some people need to realise that a team well adrift at the bottom of division two is hardly a temptation to brilliant players so we have to get the best of what is realistically available

Runaround, agree entirely. Would also add that I'm quite keen to see the age bracket who still have a potential career and not the 30 something journeymen who have been there but still fancy earning a few quid. Guys like this might just have the hunger to both help us and themselves.

Injury prone. Poor goal scoring record. Not wanted by Hull.

As we are likely to go down, I'd prefer to stick with Lankaster.
