Town Cut Season Ticket Prices But By How Much Depends on How Many Sold
Wednesday, 17th Apr 2019 11:10

Town have cut their season ticket prices for the 2019/20 season, their first in the third tier for 62 years, but by how much depends on how many are sold, while the cheapest adult matchday tickets have been reduced from £25 to £23.

Most season tickets have been cut by an initial 12.5 per cent - for example, an adult lower tier season ticket costing £381 this season will be £333 if renewed for 2019/20 - while Family Enclosure tickets are down 15 per cent.

But the club has also introduced what they call Town Targets, which will see prices drop by a further 10 per cent on last year’s price - that adult lower tier seat would be £295 - if 12,000 are sold before the early bird deadline of May 6th, 15 per cent if 13,000 are sold - £276 - and 20 per cent - £257 - if season ticket numbers - currently 10,200 - hit the 14,000 mark before the deadline.

In addition to the reduction in prices, all supporters who buy a season ticket before the first day of the 2019/20 season will have their ticket frozen at that same price if the Blues are promoted to the Championship for 2020/21.

“We spoke with a number of supporters to gauge their opinions and carried out a survey before finalising our prices,” Town’s general manager of football operations Lee O’Neill told the club site.
"
“We are expecting to lose close on £9 million in revenue for next season so it’s a balancing act between protecting season ticket revenue and getting the price as low as we can. We hope supporters think we’ve got it about right."

“With season ticket prices dropping 10 per cent last year and between 12.5 per cent and 15 per cent for 2019/20 - and perhaps more - there has been a significant decrease in price over the last two years.”

Manager Paul Lambert added: “I’ve been privileged to have played for some big football clubs in my career and seen some fantastic support.

"What I have witnessed from the Ipswich Town fans since I’ve been here is right up there with anything I’ve experienced in the game.

“I was out on the pitch after the Birmingham match. We’d just been relegated but the noise and support from the stands was unbelievable. I had to stand there and take it all in. It was incredible. Incredible.

“That’s why this club will be alright, because of that support. It might not seem like it at the moment but we’re in a really good place in a lot of ways.

"We’ve got some really good young players here. They will need time to develop but the potential is there. How good can they be? We will find out when they are given a chance — but they will get that chance. That’s the direction we are going in.

“There will be changes to the squad in the summer. That’s only natural. The loan players will go back, other players will leave and we will look to freshen things up.

"We have an idea of where we need to strengthen and the challenge next season is to bounce back. It won’t be easy for certain. It will be a tough league and we will be a scalp for clubs but that’s the target.

“We have a long term strategy here and it’s not just going to happen overnight but we have to start somewhere — and it starts now.

“The signs are there. We have played really well in a lot of games this season. The potential is there. It’s going to be exciting and sometimes you have to take a step back to go forwards.

“Other clubs have done that in the past. That’s the aim for us but the number one factor in why the future is bright for the club is the fanbase. Your continued support is absolutely vital.”

In further comments from the letter partially released on Sunday, owner Marcus Evans said: “We have dropped the price of season tickets for next season by between 12.5 per cent and 15 per cent, with further cuts of an additional 20 per cent if we reach target figures for take up.

“There is a substantial drop in club income from other revenue streams so we have to protect season ticket revenue but with season ticket prices dropping 10 per cent for 2018/19 that takes us to a minimum 22.5 per cent decrease in price over the last two years.

“In addition, if we are promoted back to the Championship next season, we will freeze prices for 2020/21 for those who purchased season tickets for 2019/20 before the first day of the new season.

“I’d like to thank you for the fantastic support you have given Paul and the players this season. It’s been a really tough year for everyone connected to the club but the atmosphere created home and away has been one of the highlights.”

The initial 12.5 per cent drop will see an adult season ticket holder in one of the lower tiers pay £14.47 for each of Town’s 23 League One matches, while senior citizens in the same area will pay £10.22 per match, under-23s £7.65 and under-19s £3.91.

In the Family Enclosure the initial price cut means an adult and three children under-12 all renewing can watch the Blues for a total of £19 per game.

The club are also continuing their interest-free 12-month Direct Debit payment scheme with current season ticket holders who pay via this route automatically renewed for 2019/20 unless they tell the club otherwise.

Town have also linked up with local businesses to offer discounts to season ticket holders as part of the ITFC Rewards scheme."

Match ticket prices are also down to £23 in the lower tiers (£25 this season) and £27 (£30 in 2018/19) in the upper tiers, aside from the central areas of Cobbold and Co-op stands.

"Season tickets will go on sale from 9am on Tuesday 23rd April with the full price list here.

"Season ticket brochures will be available at the turnstiles at Monday’s game against Swansea City at Portman Road."

credit to ME and ITFC they have done all they realistically could regarding price cuts to season tickets. correct me if wrong but this could mean a total of 35% if they hit certain sales?? that is huge to be honest. COYB

Top marks for this pricing strategy - one up the Evans knockers it has to be said.

They must be speechless - or should be.

Come on you Blues - let's make the place rock next season.

Many have commented match day pricing is too high for the likes of Accrington and Wycombe. Sadly we now are the likes of Accrington and Wycombe

Whilst the season ticket renewal and early bird prices may look slightly appealing, the match day prices for those who have to travel don't look that eye catching considering the teams we will be playing. God forbid you fancy some premium seating in the East Of England for Rochdale at £47 !

I live in North Norfolk, and if it was not for this awful Leaukimea which is slowly killing me my cheque would be in the post today, i,m unlikely to see us battle our way back up! Which i,m sure will happen, but hope to catch the first half of the season at least, even if it is from a hospital bed!!
So come on you blue boys and girls, get those seats filled, amaze our feathered friends up the road with a full stadium and noise that could be heard half way up the 140

This is great, well done ME and co! I turn 23 on 8th May - please does anyone know if I would have to pay the full adult price?

I might be a little cynical but the extra 20% reduction will stay safely in ME pocket....no way will there be 14000 sts sold...or even the 12000
A whole load of people have said to me that they will not be forking out for a st for third rank football. I ceased my season ticket a couple of seasons back after the awful treatment dished out to the 60+ people etc...and with the football served up it just wasn't worth it. At these prices announced today and with the football served up as it has been this season it may be the case this coming season in L1 that yet again I will not be getting a st and going to picked out games only.

Paul Lambert has reunited fanbase and management despite p laying performances sadly lacking this season
And of course there has to be changes in the playing personnel.
We would really love to win at home , to go to Portman Road smiling upon entry and upon on leaving.(.shades of the past)
ok the opposition may not not be great (on paper) but we have a "name" and opposition supporters will want to visit PR and house maybe their best crowds when we go there
We really need to get out of League One asap
It has to be an overall team effort ..management, players , supporters
The pricing policy a real incentive.
The home supporters in last few games have been a minimum of 15,000 ..during this appalling season..some one dayers but many who could be season ticket holders and the targets could be met
We need those voices , emanating from all the Stands
The players need it
We need it
Get those direct debits signed...spread over 12.. and compare with what else in the "entertainment world " you get !!!
If it fails we wont be accused of turning our backs and not giving it a go !

Really pleased to see the positive comments, but I think they've judged this wrong and £2-3 off ticket prices is short of what I expected and I suspect won't attract anything like 12k sales. I'd have liked to have seen 20% off and get more people at the ground, in the shop and buying chicken tikka pies (they are good). I'll be back next year but sadly suspect many discretional supporters won't be.

The initial reduction is very much in line with what you'd expect for League One football and entirely fair.

The further reductions are a very interesting concept and one which must be commended. Whether sales will increase to any of those levels remains very much to be seen. Despite the initial reduction, it's hard to see that many new ST holders for a variety of reasons, many already highlighted such as folk living miles away from Ipswich. Then, those that didn't buy a ticket for championship football - will they for a League One? I hope so, but we will see.

I'll renew.

I believe whatever Marcus had set the season ticket prices, we would still have moaning fans on this board. Get behind the team and fork out for a season ticket, as has said previously Norwich had a full stadium in Div1......it maybe a larger city but come on get behind the club.

Karl's Dad, my heart and well wishes go out to you Sir and fair play... you are absolutely right, let's make those budgies realise that we are going nowhere!!!

I live in Beccles and they have been crowing at me all week, until I remind them that they are still the second most successful team in these parts.

Karl's- Dad - we're with you, and your family, all the way on your journey to hopefully being well again.

Our best wishes to you all at this saddest of times, but our Club plight pails into insignificance compared to yours. A reality check for many, as to really important issues in life - in the grand scheme of things football means little, or nothing, in such circumstances.

Stay strong Fellow Blue - and believe. Rest assured our thoughts are with you.

Why so complicated?

These seats cost x. These cost y. These cost z. Buy them here...

That's all that's needed. The rest is playing games.

If the Club let people in for free - some would still find something to complain about, and still expect more.

Some will never see, or be able to see, the bigger picture, and always expect something for nothing. Fact of Life.
