Blues in Talks to Sign Gills Keeper Saturday, 18th May 2019 12:49
Town are in talks with Gillingham keeper Tomas Holy regarding a move to Portman Road when his contract with the Gills expires at the end of June.
The Daily Mirror reports that the Blues are close to clinching a deal and TWTD understands Town have indeed held talks with the 27-year-old 6ft 9in tall Czech keeper in recent days.
Rychnov nad Kněžnou-born Holy, believed to be the world’s third-tallest keeper, came through the ranks at Sparta Prague but featured only for their B team - having spent time on loan at Graffin Vlasim, Viktoria Zizkov and Fastav Zlin - before joining the Gills in the summer of 2017.
Holy, who has won caps with the Czech Republic at U16, U17 and U18s levels, was linked with Arsenal last summer, was an ever-present for the League One side this season and in total has made 107 appearances.
Town have spoken to a number of out-of-contract keepers since the end of the season - we understand Exeter’s Christy Pym is, as per recent links, another to have been sounded out - with Championship clubs having already shown interest in Bartosz Bialkowski and with Dean Gerken expected to leave.
Gerken’s former club Colchester United are reported to be showing interest in re-signing the 33-year-old.

‘Be careful what you wish for' is a clueless pundits phrase of the day. We should be scouting more in the Gills keepers homeland, looking for a midfield general.
I make that almost 2.06m - quite tall even by standards here in the north, where I am almost a dwarf with my 1.7m on a good day. Sounds as if we are really trying to do the business. Hope it all works out.
I'm hearing from Gillingham supporters he's actually a class goalie and they gutted to lose himðŸ‘. On the other player Keane no thanks let him find another club..
Seems to me to do a lot of shot stopping, but not much saving. I do view these as two different things. Also have to question the quality of the shots. Lets hope our back 4 is stronger than this season.
Just seen this video and feel much more reassured about him now . Commands his area, does catch the ball and bloody hell he can throw the ball further than Bart could ever kick it !!
I heard a Town fan say - we have too many inexperienced players, we should loan half the squad out to League One teams until they're Championship ready. My head almost imploded. However I do agree we need an new person between the sticks, an experienced central defender and experience up front. Can't do without moving on some of those who really don't want to stay and can bring in some funds. It's important to consider that unhappy players, however talented, are not good to have around the squad.
Good gamble signing. Gerken despite service goes. But on last season's performance who is going to pay much for Bart. The EADT writers reckon a few hundred thousand at best - not the $3 million Birmingham offered 18 months ago. Does Evans hang out for something more but eats up any lost small fee in high wages? and that only makes sense if Bart is playing as first choice whilst still at ITFC
I do laugh at a lot of the comments on here and I remember what an old Sgt Major once said to me in the Army...”Sir, opinions are like ar*eholes, everyone has one”.
Lambert is boxing clever here and that's his style when he has a pre-season with a club. He highlights and offend gets his targets very early post season so that he has the whole summer for fitness and cohesion as a team. It's worked so well for him up the road and at Villa for one season and even at Colchester way back when they stocked Narwich 7-1 as I recall on the opening game of the season.
As for this lad, he is a big frame and reminds me a bit like Schmichael (spreads himself very wide when faced with one on one challenges) and let be honest, that's exactly what will happen next season with teams probably left to very quickly counter attack us when we have sustained pressure on them in their final third. Again clever and whilst I agree that the you tube clip suggests he doesn't like catching the ball I also agree with previous comments that our goalkeeping coach will work and develop that with him.
On the Keane situation, I agree no thank you, we need fit and hungry players not those that go down and out time after time. Whilst three goals in nine appearances is a good return, he missed as many games as he played getting treatment. He, along with Collins, Adeyemi need to go especially as the latter two are at the end of their contracts. I'd keep Harrison and Jackson to start the season even as second half subs for hopefully Norwood and A.N. Other who is believe we need to freshen the competition up. Freddie will be like a new signing hopefully come January and will score a hatful if goals as he has in he past at this level.
We definitely need a midfield general, Skuse is past his best and doesn't have the legs or the fight that will be needed in his league.
Whoever we sign goalkeeper wise, needs to be fully up to the job. Bart of a few years back springs to mind. We need to be fully aware with the continued howlers from our captain marvel, we need quality in the keeper position, nothing less. Any keeper needs to be prepared for at least 2 gilt edge scoring chances coming from our great team leaders calamity defending.
