Chambers: We're in a Fantastic Position Ahead of Massive Second Half of Season
Friday, 20th Dec 2019 13:38

Skipper Luke Chambers believes the Blues are in a “fantastic position” ahead of a “massive” second half of the season.

Town are currently second in League One having played 19 games, seven points behind leaders Wycombe but with a game in hand.

“We are in a fantastic position at the moment,” Chambers told the club site. “We can speak about the what-ifs but look at where Sunderland are at the moment and the time they are having so we’ll take it.

“There are no guarantees in football but we have got ourselves into a good position and we are looking forward to the challenge over the next six months and it’s going to be a massive second half of the season.

“The way I see it, it’s the biggest since we were fighting to go up to the Premier League a few years ago.

“Potentially it’s bigger than that. Financially going up to the Premier League would have been massive of course, I get that, but a club of this size doesn’t want to be languishing in League One for too long.

“That can happen because we have seen other clubs in that situation and the longer you are at this level, the harder it can be to get back up.

“We’re determined to get back straight away and we’ll be giving it everything to make that happen.”

Chambers looks set to return to the Blues team this weekend having missed the last two League One matches due to a neck injury.

In a fortunate position would be more accurate ! unless people get their a###s in gear we will not be up there much longer. Then the heads will be down , confidence will be gone...and who will get the blame .........the fans probably ,thats how it went last season .LETS SEE SOME DESIRE, SOME FIGHT , FOR 90 MINS not 20 mins in first half then last 5 in second half..

LC's correct; but, as always in these type of ‘feel good' interviews, the wider perspective tells a slightly different story. We're at a definite cross-roads, which means that our current form has to recover, we have to win football matches (doesn't necessarily matter how) and PL has to determine his best starting team set-up/personnel - and then stick with it. At season end we don't want to be reflecting on decisions that could/should have been made when the opportunity was there, or crying into our beers quoting hindsight as being a wonderful thing. It's the here and the now that will determine how the season pans out. The players need to match action with words.

No 2 ways about it, tomorrow is a big game.
15 points available taking us into January.
The target must be 12 points. 10 not good enough.
Have a suspicion it will still be between us, Pompey and Sunderland.
From what I see of Wycombe, they will drop off, there luck will run out.
Hopefully beating them away, to go back top....

/dirtydingusmagee: No, we are not in a “fortunate position “, your remark makes it sound like we don't deserve to be in this position. We are in this position BECAUSE we have been playing relatively well over the first half in the season. Others teams haven't played as well , which is why they are below us. It's not luck, it's down to actual RESULTS!

However, What happens ( what decisions Evans and Lambert make) next, will be key to whether we cock it up or go on and get promoted. Chambers' comments have been made before, when we were in the top six under McCarthy. He literally pleaded with the Club to bring in reinforcements to enable a push fir promotion. We didn't and the rest is history. If the powers that be fail to heed the Club captains warning then it will be their sheer folly if we don't get promoted.

The problem we have though is the massive size if the squad which is by snd large dead wood. We must offload anyway we can to make room for one of two quality players to come in , that will bolster the TEAM!

Surely PL must know his starting 11 by now ... We can't go chopping & changing all the times

There are some dreamers on here..do they not realise we are close to being mid table in another couple of games when this lot on 31 upwards charge past. Chambers to note also. Yet another reshuffle today, PL seems determined to ignore the pleas of fans to play a settled side.
