Plans For Fans' Return to Be Reviewed
Wednesday, 9th Sep 2020 17:27

Plans for the return of football fans from October 1st are to be reviewed due to the rise in Covid-19 cases, prime minister Boris Johnson has announced.

Test events have taken place with a view to getting supporters back into football grounds and other venues in limited numbers from the start of October with the Blues keen to hold one of their own at either the League One match against Rochdale on Saturday 26th September or the EFL Trophy game against Gillingham on Tuesday 6th October.

But, at a Wednesday press conference on new Covid-19 restrictions in England, Johnson said the plans will be reassessed: "At the present time we must also I am afraid revise plans to pilot larger audiences in venues later this month and review our intention to return audiences to stadiums and conference centres from October 1st.

"But that doesn't mean we are going to scrap the programme entirely, we are just going to have to review it and abridge it and the Culture Secretary [Oliver Dowden] will say more about that shortly."

A delay will be a blow both to fans desperate to return to stadia to watch their teams in action and also to clubs currently deprived of gate income.

Lets be honest I very much doubt your going to see supporters in the grounds this Autumn/Winter.

Complete joke football teams should be demanding the end of this lunacy, instead they say nothing but support the next BLM protests 🤷‍♂️

The increase in covid cases recently is a real concerns yes, of course the situation needs reviewing. None of us want a return to lockdown so whatever measures are taken to avoid it will be welcomed by me.

there will be shed loads of crap ahead, Covid will be here a long time yet, i doubt this season will be any different to the last, it wont be completed without more chaos.. I think people need to get there heads around the situation , not bury them in the sand .

There was never any real chance of crowds being allowed in this year, or probably in 2021 either : which is why they should never have finished off last season as they did, but instead 'furlough' it until crowds CAN come back, giving a 19-21 or even 19-22 season.

Plenty of football league clubs going to the wall unless we learn to live with this.

So cases up, hosputalisations...? Let's see in a couple of weeks. This may be just a "just in case" strategy.
