Three Changes for Blues at Crewe
Saturday, 30th Jan 2021 14:18

Town boss Paul Lambert has made three changes with Myles Kenlock, Alan Judge and Freddie Sears returning to the side facing Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road.

Kenlock is at left-back for Stephen Ward, who drops to the bench with Judge in the more advanced role in place of Jon Nolan, who drops out of the 18, while Sears is the lone central striker replacing Kayden Jackson, who is suspended for three games following his red card on Tuesday.

James Norwood, who has been out with a recurrence of his hamstring, is among the subs, as is young defender Elkan Baggott, who signed his first professional contract earlier in the week.

Crewe make five changes with Harry Pickering, Mikael Mandron, Luke Murphy, Billy Jones and Stephen Walker coming into the team for Rio Adebisi, Chris Porter, Tom Lowery, Travis Johnson, and Owen Dale.

Crewe: Richards, Jones, Lancashire, Beckles, Pickering (c), Murphy, Wintle, Finney, Walker, Kirk, Mandron. Subs: Jaaskelainen, Powell, Lowery, Porter, Dale, Johnson, Evans.

Ipswich: Holy, Chambers (c), Woolfenden, McGuinness, Kenlock, Dozzell, Downes, Judge, Thomas, Edwards, Sears. Subs: Cornell, Ward, Norwood, Lankester, Bishop, Drinan, Baggott. Referee: Ross Joyce (Cleveland).

Putting to one side Lambert's persistence with playing a lone striker, he will now have started 2 games with 2 out and out wingers (Thomas and Edwards) yet has chosen not to play Drinan (the obvious target man) in either.

Now get KVY back and we might have full backs that can at least run and not be embarrassed each game.

For the first time since 2001 I'd predicted a Town victory by 2-1. On reviewing the line up I've changed it to an 8-0 defeat !

You can play a short striker provided you keep the ball on the deck and play through the midfield and wingers. Unfortunately you will not succeed if you hump the ball in the air expecting Freddie to win all the headers!. Over the top and into the channels is fine provided support from wingers and midfield hit the box. However, I am unsure if we have the manpower to play in such a way!

Glad Kenlock has been given a chance as Ward has been poor for many weeks, however you cannot just give him one game. He needs a run similar to that of Ward. Give him 10 games and then see !!!
Lets hope Sears does not have to chase high balls and long punts
Surprised Judge has had a recall with Bishop available

Pleased that Myles Kenlock is being given a chance, shame that Sears will be up front alone rather than paired with Drinan.

Sears is really, really good but doesn’t score. Only forward so no goals today. Easy 2-0 defeat me thinks.

One up front again. What a joke! No goals or shots again, but Lambert will still say we were really really good.

This is rubbish Lambert-----Freddie Sears up front---do me a favour.

And Nolan out completely-----you obviously are still very Covid affected.

If you lose this game you must do the decent thing---perhaps with a little help from Evans----I am not looking forward to this!!

Sears up front on his own doesn't excite me one bit.

Judging by the comments I'm guessing a few posters aren't so pleased with Lambert....

Pleased that Kenlock has been given another chance as he played well in his last game but got dropped for old man Ward whose well past it. Should never have changed from last year but missed out to Blakpool!!

Oh deep joy, three players returning to the team, who should all be released in the summer (along with about 10 others)
I wonder what the odds are for Freddie to score today 1000/1??

Three players with one thing in common all lightweight and that's been a problem with our squad for several seasons now. If Kenlock could develop physically he would be first team left back no problem, he's ok going forward but in defensive situations like one on one's he struggles and often gets out muscled.

Don't think we'll get 3 OGs.

Why pick Judge? I took 15mins for Thomas to show how ineffective Judge is and what we’ve been missing..

Holy hat-trick?

Chambers not dropped again, our worst player for the last 10 games but Lambert has made sure he doesn't,t have to leave him out by getting shot of our only other RB! Why bring Judge back, he offers very little and Bishop gives a lot more of an attacking threat

two fairly even sides both pass it well but not in final third
Kenlock has done well and saved a certain goal with a well timed block
no real cutting edge or service to Sears(too good for this division my ar$e)
