Vincent-Young Finally Returns to Squad at Portsmouth
Friday, 19th Mar 2021 10:32

Town boss Paul Cook has revealed right-back Kane Vincent-Young will be on the bench at Portsmouth tomorrow, ending the former Colchester man’s 17-month injury absence.

The 25-year-old’s last Town match was the 3-1 win at Southend in October 2019 with a groin problem, which required surgery twice, subsequently ruling him out of the rest of that campaign.

The former Tottenham youngster returned in pre-season but suffered an achilles problem which sidelined him until early this year.

In February, just as he was about to get back into match action, Vincent-Young hyperextended his knee, putting him out for another six weeks.

But now the Londoner, who made a huge impression in his first nine games for the club prior to his injury problems, is ready to make his return to the squad.

“You’ll all know the lad, he’s been out injured for a long time, he’s had a really rigorous programme of training and work,” Cook said. “He’s worked really hard behind the scenes and he’s joined in a session or two, and why not?

“He’s travelling with us tomorrow, I think he’ll be on the bench tomorrow 100 per cent. By the time we get him through tomorrow into the next week or the full week’s training again with us, we’ll need to see Kane on the pitch, that’s for sure.”

Asked whether Vincent-Young was the type of full-back he likes, Cook joked: “I’ve got to play two tomorrow that I like! Listen, in the modern-day game, full-backs are very, very important.

“I always believe that every team can play in a modern way. If you’re a League Two team it doesn’t mean you can’t play the same way as Man City. People will say you haven’t got the players to do it.

“I want two full-backs who bomb forward and give you great energy from the sides and can deal with crosses and give you much more of an attacking threat on both sides.

“I’m fortunate at the minute, Luke Chambers has gone to right-back. Luke Chambers has been an outstanding centre-half for our club, he’s gone to right-back to help us out, he’s done that admirably, but going forward, we must have left-backs and right-backs that can penetrate.”

KVY back in the squad and even on the bench for tomorrow: absolutely bloody massive for this team. It's like we've signed a new player.

Bishop back to form not sure about that Edmundo squad player next season. Norwood is a very frustrating player who i stated at the start of the season would be injury prone and involved in more antics off the pitch but he's worth keeping and one of the few players with any physically and aggression in the squad.

....as for having two full backs bombing forwards...I wonder how Nydam will fit this role in competition with Kenlock next season, or will PC be looking to bring another left back?

Odd that we haven't given KVY 45 minutes in the U23s first.

Fantastic news for every town fan. This boy is he stays fit is a proper wing back. Cook has basically alluded to the fact that Chambers doesn't do what he wants his full backs to do. The fans all know that so it's time to axe the ageing warrior.

Happy to put trust entirely in Paul Cook ; certain his optimism and enthusiasm is well tempered by professional objectivity .
The prospect of our entire squad becoming fit and capable of being included for every match day is mouthwatering !
Now need to see greater concentration , focus for 90 mins + and unrestricted energy throughout . PC plainly identifies the shortcomings which need correction : guess future selection and on- going contracts will reflect both his and L O'N's careful and thorough discussions .
Beware the non or under performing individuals !

Great news. The fact that he has not rushed back hopefully means his injury will not re-occur. He could be the difference.

That's such good news. Not just for what KVY can bring to the team but for him as a player. I can't imagine how frustrating it must have been for him to have a long period out injured and then, just as he's about to get going, to be set back again. Good luck KVY with your return. It's great to see you back.

Welcome back KVY. On top form, I'm convinced the extra few percent you'd have given to our performances would have been the difference between playoffs and autos this year.

Great news about KVY, treat him gently and gradually step up his on pitch time and he should be fully fit for the play off 's !

Great news, certainly won't be expecting him to play much before the end of the season, ease him back in, no rush.
What has happened to Matheson?

Let's give him a bit of time to get up to speed and hopefully he will still be at the same level as he was before the injuries. All the best KVY!

ArnieM Nydam is very slightly built not sure if he's up to playing senior football yet. Watched him several times for the youth team and always been impressed but he needs to develop physically other wise he could get seriously injured again. People will say that Keiron Dyer was very small but he was different class and had great pace that got him out of trouble. But his career was littered with injuries otherwise he would have played many times for England. Im afraid our current youngsters do not live up to the hype.

Hopefully it will be the end of chambers. You just have to look how much Nsiala has improved away from captain calamity in the middle.
