Cook: I Will Be Like Demolition Man Over the Next Six Weeks
Friday, 16th Apr 2021 09:54

Town boss Paul Cook says he’ll be like Demolition Man over the next six weeks with the changes that are coming to Ipswich Town.

The Blues manager held little back at his morning press conference ahead of tomorrow’s game at Charlton Athletic.

Cook dismissed a rumour that on-loan Tottenham striker Troy Parrott had been sent back to the Premier League club and told reporters to expect more gossip along those lines in the weeks to come as he makes what will be very extensive changes to his squad.

“There’s no truth in that rumour,” he said. “What you guys will now get is a million rumours because, as you know, I will be like Demolition Man over the next six weeks. You will hear rumours on every player, every bust-up, everything that goes wrong.

“This is going to be a very unhappy club over the next two or three weeks because the changes are coming. When there are announcements on players, whether it be Troy Parrott, Luke Chambers, James Norwood, Kayden Jackson, the club will make announcements.

“One of the things we can’t stop today is social media, Twitter, all the outlets will spread rumours that unfortunately until we substantiate them won’t be true.

“But that’s what happens at big football clubs and at the minute I want to be very respectful and careful to every player at our club.

“These lads have all got families, all these lads have worked hard in their career to get to Ipswich Town and we must do things with a bit of class now. A little bit of class, irrespective of whether it’s Player A, Player B and all the way to Z. There’s a proper way to deal with stuff at football clubs.

“Me, as a manager of the club, it’s in-house, it’s done properly and our fans then know what we’re doing is exactly what they want for this football club.”

He added: “Our players are very, very aware of my feelings. If the whole squad didn’t want to come back from Wimbledon the other night, it wouldn’t have bothered me. I’d have got on with the season.

“It's where I’m at, I don’t really think I [need to say any more]. Obviously from you guys, I accept all the different stuff, all the players have agents and all the above. I couldn’t care less any more.”

Given that, might some of the younger players who are yet to feature play a part in the weeks to come? “If the 18 from Wimbledon don’t turn up, you’ll have to see more, won’t you? I think the new 18 would get more support than the other 18 from our supporters.

“All I’d say to our supporters is ‘stay with us for the rest of the season please’. There will be more pain. There has to be more pain, but for that pain to go the sunshine will start coming through this summer at our club.”

Let's hope fans have the patience as it might take most of next season for the club to gel xx

Excellent. A manager on a mission.

These players have had ample opportunity to impress both a new manager and new owners and have failed miserably. Burn it all down and start again. I think we need to go through this process to come out the other side a tougher, leaner unit.

It's trust Cook implicitly. He has a track record of success.

At last WYSIWYG with PC. I must admit I was beginning to wonder. But at last it all sounds good.

All we should expect from the club, is that they treat the casualties of this clear out with dignity and respect.

We can then all move on to a brighter future for ITFC.

As awful as the current squad is, I'm nervous if Cook and the management have the means and calibre to essentially kick out almost an entire squad and sign a new one capable of getting promoted next season. It's not football manager, signing players better than ours that want to come to Ipswich is not easy, and that's before assuming their judgement is spot on and so many players gel... I guess we have no choice but to roll the dice so I'm behind it, but eyes open that this could work out brilliantly OR go badly wrong...

Timmyh. Dozzell has played there the vast majority of the season. But yet, like you, I certainly wouldn't be worried if a bid came in for him and he moved on. And yes, I totally agree that Cook will likely be looking for at least one strong player to play there next season.

Credit Mr Cook for an open and honest interview i feel you have held back whilst having a few games to sort out the personnel you would want and let the others go(1/2 game for Skuse was enough as he hasn't featured since) your statement about if they didn't want to come back after Wimbledon shows you have no favourites(about flippin time this club moved on the creeps) and will take no crap from anyone and will put an end to big gobs mates 4&8 domination that has ruined this club.

This clear out shouldn't stop at the players, some of the coaches need to take a long look at themselves and keep a look over their shoulders. Look what happened to Walker only a few days ago. Do we have any scouts on the payroll ? if so save your reputations and move on at your own choice before your pushed.

I've never heard anything like this. The P!ss taking certainly stops here. I have absolutely no sympathy for anybody being shown the door. They have all had multiple chances to perform.
Who knows maybe the shockwave might stimulate something tomorrow.

My guess is win tomorrow, or the exit door for the next batch

Wouldn't be surprised to see the under 23s with Norwood, KVY, Woolf, and Downes put out tomorrow, he suggests another 18 will be considered very seriously.
Lovely stuff, Bonfire of the Vanities
Long live King Cookie

Can our new owners fly Sylvester Stallone out to Ipswich? He probably knows the club from Escape to Victory.

Wow! It sounds like Cookie has a steely centre. But I like the way he is trying to manage his clear-out in a respectful way. It must be difficult to tread the middle path between satisfying demands for success the American way, and being a decent leader at a family club. I think he's doing a great job so far, but I don't think our new-look team will necessarily walk L1 next season. This building might take a bit of time.

Go to it Mr Cook at long last someone who recognises and will address the decline that began with big gob and his blind faith in his mates and ignoring the fantastic fan base this club has.

Karlosfandangel. You're spot on. It may not necessarily gel straight away. No doubt tho, therell be some fans who expect it to. And if it doesnt, will be calling for Cooks head. Hopefully it will, but if not, as u say, we have to be patient. Rome wasnt built in a day.

How will you get anyone to sign for the club?

If we can't be bothered to put in a shift to end this season with some points why would another player want to join a sinking ship?

AlanG296 added 18:28 - Apr 16
The Ship is sinking because it's full of bilge. Pump that out and bring in a new crew and we'll be sailing forward under PC.

If the new 18 show passion, effort and a desire to impress then I don't care if we lose. I just want to see some players in the ITFC kit trying to win.
