Colchester Linked With Triple Blues Move
Wednesday, 5th May 2021 09:24

Colchester United could reportedly show summer interest in veteran Blues trio Luke Chambers, Cole Skuse and Freddie Sears.

All three are out of contract in the summer with Town expected to release most of those in that position.

Former U’s frontman Sears was interesting his old club in January with that link revived earlier in the week.

TWTD reported on Monday that Skuse was spotted at Colchester’s 1-0 home victory over Salford on Saturday with his friend the Wayne Brown, who is currently the manager of Maldon & Tiptree, a club with whom the U’s have a close link.

Former Town defender Brown was interim manager of the U’s between February and March this year following Steve Ball’s exit and Hayden Mullins’s appointment.

Now, the EADT reports that Colchester could be keen on bringing Sears, Skuse and Chambers to the JobServe Community Stadium this summer were they to be available.

It would be little surprise if all three were to depart Portman Road this summer with Skuse having made only one start and two sub appearances having undergone knee surgery early on in the season.

Sears has been in and out of the side throughout the campaign, while long-time Chambers’s absence from recent XIs has been notable.

I can tell you now, Chambers has been offered a deal. Skuse and Freddie are leaving with Emyr Huws, Bishop wants away too.

Could be a very good acquisition for Col U with these 3 on a free. I assume all 3 would still be on Championship wages, so that could be a problem though.

Wherever they end up I wish them well. Whilst they are not the future for Town (as players) they have been good servants and deserved our thanks.

I cannot understand why Skuse takes the blame for this seasons woes when he has only made 3 appearances and 2 of those was as a sub. The defense always looked more solid when he is in front of the back 4 it is just a shame he hasn't really recovered from his injury.

Chambers often makes a mistake, it is true, but he always looked after the younger players on the pitch. I remember him at Gillingham when someone pushed and shoved KVY. When all had died down, Chambers walked over the the Gills player and clearly said 'if you want to pick on someone, pick on me' . A little while later the said Gills player was seen sliding into the advertising hoardings on the side of the pitch.

I wouldn't wish them on anyone, poor old Col U.

All have been the most loyal players for ITFC ,committed and disciplined ,with each for the most part of their time with us keeping fit , staying out of trouble on the pitch and wiling to play wherever asked, often out of their best natural position BUT with never a peep of complaint .
At this moment there is absolutely no need or excuse for heaping any criticism upon them( look always and often to the TOP when things go wrong ) .
WE wish them all the very best of good health and fitness in the seasons ahead ,trust they'll enjoy the rest of their careers ,whether playing or coaching/ managing ; and hope they and their families will have stability and prosper too !

Good news for all concerned. Sears arrived a fantastic striker and was ruined by MM . Skuse has always been a consistent performer and has done well for the team. Chambers has been a loyal servant but for me a very average player who wears his heart on his sleeve. I think Cook is changing the mentality of the squad which needs to be done. Too many comfortable players have been going through the motions for 3-4 seasons now. For those departing. Good luck for the future

Suffolkboy ive not criticised them they just haven't been good enough and you say it comes from the top but have never criticised evans in the past. For me that's where it lies I don't blame players for not being good enough

If all three went to col it would give them a decent experienced spine through the team that knows each other well, that can only be a good thing for them. I just hope we can replace that many appearances and experience in the summer. Good luck all three, sears was never a winger but did his best and the other twos legs have gone unfortunately

This will ensure Colchester stays rooted in current division.

This is a really hard read from a Ipswich/Colchester Fan! Chambers will struggle in league 2. Sears will still have goals in him at that level.

The handful of haters are no doubt the same so called 'fans' who drove McCarthy out and we all know where that has landed us.

Good servants to ITFC or has ITFC been good servants to them, that's the debate here?? Integral part of our demise so it's defo time for all to move on. Player power and cosy ITFC has been mentioned on many occasions, so a good clear out and fresh approach is required.

For me if true this is good for all 3 i still feel Sears when fit & played in his proper position can be an asset for another season, i do not hate 4&8 i am of the opinion that(to which i am entitled) they are not the worst players i've seen in a Town shirt since 1958 but they are certainly in the top 10.

I don't agree with all the personal abuse, bile and vitriol being aimed towards these players, but their time in an Ipswich shirt has surely now come to an end.

Chambers has too many mistakes in him and is no longer quick enough to recover, Freddie's injury woes and time on the treatment table means he can't be counted on for long periods of any given season and Skuse, who has been treated unfairly as the scapegoat for bad performances on more than one occasion, has probably taken enough mentally speaking and needs to move on to pastures new. Also, none of them are spring chickens in footballing terms.

They have, in the past, been decent players for us who have shown they have heart and could do a job for us but, given their recent performances, they are now surplus to requirements. When your time's up, your time's up! It's the nature of all things that they must someday come to an end.

I wish them all the best in whatever they do next, wherever that may be.

Getting on to your point about McCarthy, yes, the fans wanted him out but he basically sacked himself!

Swearing and unnecessary hand gestures aimed at the club's supporters was not only very arrogant of him but also unwise when it came to prolonging his time here as manager. He was as arrogant as the great Brian Clough... only with 2% of the talent and none of the charisma.

Ally that with boring, boring, BORING, dinosaur-style, aimless hoofball on the pitch and increasingly poor results and you have a real recipe for picking up your P45 at the gate.

I stand by what I said at the time... Good damned riddance to him and all who sail in him!

Agree with some previous comments. All three have been excellent professionals and in their time added value. Sadly, their best days are behind them and the time is right for them and the club to move on.

I don't think you can call into question their dedication and service to the club. But every player reaches an expiration date and you can't keep them in the squad for nostalgia or that they are simply loyal servants. We have to move forward after this season and that means cutting some of the loyal players. Loyalty doesn't win you games, quality does.

I seem to recall a huge player turnover led to relegation. I'd like to see at least one of them stay and wouldn't be upset if all three did.

I think the huge player turnover last time involved getting rid of a championship team and replacing them with a league 1 team. We got what we paid for.

Not going to slate anyone but the only one I will be a little sad to see go at this point is Sears as I believe in the right formation he has goals in him at this level, having said that it doesn't look like Cooke is going to play 2 upfront so it's probably best he moves on. Never liked Chambers or Skuse but don't like the “I'll drop them off myself” or “taxi” comments as they were only doing their best but IMO weren't good enough hence( not just these two but most of the current squad) our continual demise.
Also if I'm being brutally honest and if you believe the sums of money being talked about what we have to spend next season, I WANT BETTER PLAYERS AT MY CLUB IF WE ARE AIMING FOR AUTOMATIC PROMOTION.
This squad needs at least half of the players replaced if we are to stop sliding downwards

All three have been under valued by the people who post stupid comments, and don't understand the game.
In Chambers and Skuse both have been great professionals and ambassadors for Ipswich Town FC - Sears at a crucial point of his career was either injured or constantly played out of position, this is not good for any player.
We have to move on however, and I personally wish all three the best of luck for the future, and my thanks for the professional standards you upheld.
Make no mistake, there is Football left in all three, and they will carry on their dedication and service elsewhere with success.
Each to their own - and unfortunately some know no better than to be disrespectivr with their comments.
Respect would not go amiss - but too much to expect from such people.

God there's some emotional guff written on here!

Loyalty?

No one else wanted them!

In the football world, Ipswich town football club is an irrelevance.

It's only us town fans that take any notice.

The club now has a good chance of getting back on the scene.

Clear out the underperforming, bog standard players and sign some real footballers.

Thanks for your efforts and all that boys but you're time is up.

After years of demise, stop living in the past, back Cook and embrace the new regime.

Good luck to all three and I thank them all for their time with us but I don't feel we need any of them next season and I think they will do well in league 2
