Town Confirm Chambers and Skuse Exits
Monday, 10th May 2021 14:28

Town have confirmed that skipper Luke Chambers and midfielder Cole Skuse are leaving the club this summer.

Chambers, 35, joined the Blues on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2012 during Paul Jewell’s time as boss.

The centre-half or right-back went on to make 395 starts and one sub appearance for the Blues, netting 19 times, all but a handful while wearing the captain’s armband.

Skuse, also 35, joined Town from Bristol City the following summer, also on a free transfer, and made 268 starts and 10 appearances from the bench. The pair were key members of the side which reached the Championship play-offs in 2014/15.

“Chambo and Cole have been exemplary pros for this football club,” boss Paul Cook told the club site.

“Not only are they very good footballers, they are stand-out men in the way they conduct themselves

“They have been a pleasure to work with in my short time here and you won’t find better role models for young players coming through.

“We thank them for their fantastic service to Ipswich Town Football Club and wish them every success in whatever they do going forward.”

The pair have both been linked with a summer move to Colchester United, along with Freddie Sears, although they may well have plenty of options in Leagues One and Two.

Best of luck to both Luke Chambers and Cole Skuse, who always gave their best and were rarely injured over 9 and 8 seasons respectively. Chambers was a good club captain and the only recent player to make it on to the Ipswich Town Monopoly game, alongside some illustrious names from years gone by. Skuse didn't hit the back of the net too often but he was a good foil for the more creative players (when we had some).

A great pity that the fans could not be there to give them recognition for their service to the club. All three have been very professional in their approach, which can't always be said about some of the others left behind. Luke in particular had to endure many games out of position, but he got on with it without complaint. Freddie was a low-key figure more interested in doing his job than gaining tattoos and fixing his hairstyle. Cole was obviously a "decent guy" who could be trusted to bring a bit of maturity to the party. Good luck to all of them and thanks for the effort.

Early Chambers saw him make some heroic blocks - out of position? brave - he rarely let us down in the first 300 games.
Skuse read the game really well and made some great interceptions, Bishop has only really shone next to him.
Time to go but Good Luck and Thanks

Any chance in the summer to have a testimonial match for him. We should be allowed a decent crowd and obviously as a friendly no contract needed. Would be a nice touch by the club for the fans to say a farewell and one more fist pump.

Shame that most posters here didn't give the same support when they were playing for us , giving 100% every game

Best wishes to the pair of them. Wrongly singled out by the bandwagon jumpers as being the main culprits on far too many occasions. I definitely see coaches in the making. A shame that they weren't given a proper send off. Two of the very few who truly deserved it.

It does not make you a bad supporter if you did not rate Chambers,Skuse & Sears. Some half decent footballers do not enjoy the same privilege as these three players got. It was only because of a very poor club owner in Marcus Evans that these players were retained year after year.
Other than that, i hope they can offer something to a struggling Colchester Utd .

Oh no what are the moaning minnies going to do now that Chambers and Skuse have gone.

I know pick on BIshop or Dozzell next season and kept telling them they are not good enough to wear the shirt.

The moaning minnies are not good enough to be Ipswich fans

Would have been released 6 years ago at most clubs. We've gone backwards at an alarming rate under the leadership of these two and it's time our club moves onwards and upwards.

I wish them well for the future i respect them as gentlemen and family men,
I did not hate them(as has been suggested against me on here) i just didn't rate them which was my opinion and i thought that was what the site is all about.

Huge respect for 2 professionals who have served the club well, great to see so many positive comments on here, it really is. Thanks for your service guys I wish you all the very best for the future wherever that may be. If Freddie is going then I add those wishes to him too, a great guy who gave it his all.

They have given us their passion, enthusiasm and all the great stuff they allegedly done off the pitch, so a big thanks for that. They have also made a handsome fortune out of us and have delivered zero success on the pitch whilst greatly contributing to our steady decline. So forget the word Legends because that's a proper slur and very disrespectful insult to our true greats.
New owners, new manager, a massive clear out of the deadwood and Ed on board, I reckon we have finally reach the stage when there's sweet FA to moan about now. We could not have dreamed this a few months ago, so embrace and enjoy :-)

It is the right decision at the right time for the club but I have always regarded Chambers and Skuse as decent players and professionals. Chambers played wherever he was asked and gave his all. Skuse was an effective blocker and did the dirty work that others did not. I wish them and their families well and would be pleased to see either of them back at some point. Both have managerial potential and both were a credit to ITFC under difficult circumstances and not so good managers.

I wish both of them well, two very good servants of the club. It is however time for them and the club to move on. Hopefully they will secure deals elsewhere and quickly.
