A bigger chance than ever against 10 men and still there is a lack of confidence and ability to take a team apart.
Still paying too much respect to the opposition and playing Championship style. The level of defending is seriously flawed. Conceding a corner gives Man Utd a simple goal. A second half was very underwhelming.
I counted at least 3 times when the ball should have been passed to a team mate in a better position to score. We have to find a better way to bury our chances .Another frustration is the momentum going forward then suddenly stops and the pass backwards.
Then there are the same mistakes at the back. For Southamptons winning goal, yes, the save from the shot was not good. What was worse was the fact their player got to the rebound.
To be honest we have a few players over-awed by the standards of Premiership football. It looks too easy for teams to score when playing us..
What is exciting is the recruitment of some good footballers. Just have to get the tactics right. I still feel Townsend should occupy a place in the back 4 that should prioritise defending. The pace going forward has to be our asset.
Open to criticism. Delap needs closer support up front.
It was nice to see him back in the team and he had a good game. A clean sheet was a reward for being a true professional even when he was on the bench. Well done . Every player put in a shift. Portman Road was buzzing.
The first half there were promising signs but with that energy we only produced one goal.
It is like opposing teams play out a very average performance and then change gear , up the tempo and threat. Then score the goals needed to take the points.
I was watching how time and time again they swept the ball out to their attacking left flank . So much time and far too much space between defender and attacker. It was awful to watch. Then there was the little one/two,s that just by-passed our defence. Added to that we're casual defending and horrendous mistakes. The envitable grab n smash was on and so it turned out.
Just a thought. Might be too controversial for some on this forum. The team may benefit from more attacking play down the left flank . Supplying more crosses into the box and hopefully more goal scoring chances in the box. It would give Leif more freedom and give Ipswich more threat. That could leave Hutchinson to occupy the right flank and that could be a bigger threat with pace on both flanks.
We have Conner Townsend who can slot in at left back.
Another point is that we could bring back our players currently out on loan . Cameron Humphreys can also hold his own at left back.
Peterborough forward Ricky J.Jones looks like he has good future ahead of him. . He scored twice last Saturday and was a right handful. One day a bigger club will take a punt on him just like Brentford took a punt on Ollie Watkins.
I thought a challenge could of been made for one goal and poor marking cost us another goal. The Brentford winning goal in the dying minutes was either diabolical or just unlucky. There will be a mixed opinion on that.
The warning signs were there when dealing with Brentford attacks.
An entertaining game and a good atmosphere from town fans.
