Brentford Join Blackburn and QPR in Chase For Dozzell
Saturday, 15th May 2021 19:31

TWTD understands Brentford have joined Blackburn Rovers and QPR in showing interest in Blues midfielder Andre Dozzell.

On Monday, Town boss Paul Cook told virtually everyone in the current squad that they can move on this summer including Dozzell, 22, who only signed a new contract which runs to the summer of 2024 in December.

Blackburn Rovers had an offer for Dozzell rejected by the Blues in January 2020 and, as previously reported, former Blues skipper and coach Tony Mowbray has continued to monitor the former England U20 international during 2020/21. His assistant Mark Venus’s name was on the scouts list for a recent Blues away game.

TWTD revealed in February that QPR were also keeping tabs on the former England U20 international and they remain among those interested. However, we understand Twitter claims of a swap deal for Ipswich-born striker Macauley Bonne are wide of the mark.

Brentford have also now joined the chase for Dozzell, who was a regular for Town in 2020/21 under both Cook and his predecessor Paul Lambert.

We understand no offers have yet been made for Dozzell but it’s expected that the interested parties will firm up their interest soon.

A difficult one this as many posters have demonstrated. The lad has class and can put a pass together but his goal ratio is on a par with Skuse. He is not a shrewd tackler and as others have said he is a shirt puller because he has no speed. He has had this season to prove himself albeit in a poor team. Would he be a better player in a team full of confidence with strikers he can feed? Probably, but if a suitable bid comes in then Cook and Ashton have a duty to consider it.

I remember Brian Clough said its 10 per cent ability and 90 per cent mentality or something like that, for me I dont think he offers anything like enough, a couple of good passes over 90 minutes is not enough, definately not fit enough, but, if he has the right attitude then use our many coaches to coach players. I would be very disappointed to see the Dobra go and I would like to see a lot more of Simpson, but I would not be at all upset to see the back of Dozzell

He's never realised the potential that so many had for him in my opinion. Was that due to who is father was/achieved? Think it's probably better for all concerned if he moved on.

What our fans have to realise that so many good players are available on free transfers. Hopefully the pull of our manager , the clubs ambition & better wages will bring in these players

Yes barryblue Dobra has flourished since Cook arrived one of the few not to down tools under Cook's tough disciplined approach. Simpson's a long way off first team material and has been on the bench for the u23s alot this season. Scored a nice goal against Nottingham Forest u23s and i think fans tend to get carried away with one little flash in the pan. Would be very surprised if he made the grade at Ipswich especially if Cook brings in better players as he is saying. They could loan him out but it would have to be a National league side i think.

Good, let him go. Hasnt done anything for Town in 2 years. Isnt a youngster anymore, should be playing his heart out every week now. Look at the youngsters ripping it up in the Premiership. Dozy cant cope with league 1 !!!

Has anyone actually got it in black and white exactly what PC said to the players? I still find it hard he told Dobra to look elsewhere especially as he was the one player who has improved under cook. Might be cook giving these players a wake up call to see how many think they can easily find another club especially with so many players getting released.

Dozzell is a class player. He's probably one who suits a higher level. I don't see him as lazy or lacking grit. He gets booked a lot for putting his foot in. I'd prefer he stayed but if I was him I'd probably want to get away from the negative atmosphere Cook has created within the squad and also doubling his wages.

Interesting. Brentford are known for buying players and selling them on for a profit.

If the plan is to sell Dozzell and replace him with a chap from non-league Aldershot, then I would be worried.

The problem is that he was used as a defensive midfielder which he isn't.

Wherever he goes, he won't be as able to be anonymous in games as he has been at Ipswich Town.
He'll need to step up the work rate for sure - talent ? Yes - but lacking in work rate, and committment.
No great loss to the Club - far more dedicated players out there to be had.
He would frustrate the life out of Cook - time to move on and buck up somewhat.

Still think Dozzel could be a top player if he was surrounded by better quality teammates.

How many seasons have the same trolls been talking about Dozzell's so called potential ? - he is no longer a kid, and has time to push on, but failed to do so season after season - but each season results in the same old.
Do we wait forever for the Bus that isn't coming, but it might do !! - NO - time for him to go along with others that ‘can't be asked' but who like people to believe they might.
The Iron Rod just had to come out at some point after a decade plus of sub standard everything connected to the Club.
IT HAS ARRIVED ! - there was no other choice - the Cosy Corner Club is no longer open for membership. Alleluia ! - now we need it to work, and the route now reversed.

Might be better if Cook went and Dozzell stayed.

In reply to the anti Skuse comments, he has hardly played all season but the main thrust of our play has still been sideways. Some clearly do not recognise a good solid defensive mid fielder who has served this club well.

Dozzells an all round midfielder can't score can't create and can't defend. He's also got deceptive pace he's a lot slower than he looks.

Fine to sell him if we've got a load of decent players coming in but what are the chances of that given where the club is at?

I think sentimentality is creeping in, yes he's one of our own but in all honesty what does he bring to the team??? Doesn't score any goals, doesn't create any goals, will always foul as a player runs past him. I have been calling for him to be involved but like so many of our players there is a lot of promise but absolutely no substance. Perhaps a new club and manager will get all of that promise from him,.perhaps his Dad is a massive shadow over him but you would have thought if he was any good he would have shone in what has been another pathetic season.

Amazing how many ITFC see failure as being acceptable - I call them the:- ‘As long as a Ball is kicked at Portman Road Brigade'.
Such people are synonymous with us being what we currently are, and the slide we've been on for the past umpteen years.
Equally as responsible as Marcus Evans in my view, for not expecting enough from individuals, or the Team.

The Media sells News space - false, or otherwise - this topic will be no different throughout the next couple of months or so.

We've not had a team that has played well together for more than a few games this season, it's simply not been good enough and yet if we had won two more games we would have made the playoffs.
Whether it's a case of simply not wanting to give their all or a case of not being good enough it's quite evident that change was needed. With those that have left the club and those that will undoubtably be leaving there is no going back.
Complacency for places has played apart in our performances and and has done for a few seasons, we don't stand a chance of winning games if all eleven players aren't singing off the same hymn sheet.
I've watched all but one of the home games this season and the effort put in has been abysmal, so I see no other way to change the fortunes of this club then the way that PC has gone about it. He gave them the chance to make a show that they had something about them and they threw it away.
Exciting times at PR, and I can't wait to see a new spirit in the team and a hunger to win every game.

Nice silky touch, would love to play in a 5-a-side with him. Just not sure about his physique and whether he can do the defensive dirty work needed at this level, if not all levels. I think if you can't do that then you have to be scoring 10+ goals per season and even that comes at the cost of a pretty strong holding player to compensate.

Controversial, but would rather have a fit motivated Jon Nolan than the inconsistent performances of Andre, that cost us a few goals when trying high risk short passes from deep this season.

I honestly hope he proves me wrong and has a 10 goal season in the Championship.

Surely we want to build a team which can get us out of this league, and so far a lot of our great potential hasn't shown any ability or desire to put the work in and get us up. That very much includes twinkle toes Dozzell. I suspect Cook thinks he is too lightweight for this division. Witness the way he tackles, always a side-on toe in, with very little commitment and if that doesn't work a sneaky tug back with an arm. It's lazy, often leads to yellow cards and obviously wrongly coached. Bring on folks who can do a job in this division and get us up. Rebuild as we go along.

87 appearances , 2 goals 1 assist. All those wanting him to stay can I just ask why? for a 'attacking' midfielder they are pretty poor even Skuse scored 2 goals. In a season where Andre played 43 games he got 1 assist. The only season where Skuse played over 40 games he got 1 goal and 4 assists and he was a defensive mid. Sorry but Andre has not been adding anything to this team.

i would be really disappointed if Cook lets Dobra go too Barryblue, he has shown a lot when he has had opportunity, and has a good attitude.Reckon he has the makings of a really decent player.I am one that has calle for a big clear out ,but he is one that should stay .Dozzel dosnt show the same qualities imo .
