Brentford Join Blackburn and QPR in Chase For Dozzell
Saturday, 15th May 2021 19:31

TWTD understands Brentford have joined Blackburn Rovers and QPR in showing interest in Blues midfielder Andre Dozzell.

On Monday, Town boss Paul Cook told virtually everyone in the current squad that they can move on this summer including Dozzell, 22, who only signed a new contract which runs to the summer of 2024 in December.

Blackburn Rovers had an offer for Dozzell rejected by the Blues in January 2020 and, as previously reported, former Blues skipper and coach Tony Mowbray has continued to monitor the former England U20 international during 2020/21. His assistant Mark Venus’s name was on the scouts list for a recent Blues away game.

TWTD revealed in February that QPR were also keeping tabs on the former England U20 international and they remain among those interested. However, we understand Twitter claims of a swap deal for Ipswich-born striker Macauley Bonne are wide of the mark.

Brentford have also now joined the chase for Dozzell, who was a regular for Town in 2020/21 under both Cook and his predecessor Paul Lambert.

We understand no offers have yet been made for Dozzell but it’s expected that the interested parties will firm up their interest soon.

I can only base my opinions on his performances. I do take into account the fact this is a league one team that has generally approached games with a very defensive mindset the last few years......and perhaps Doz hasnt had the players ahead of him....or even the player around him....to bring out his true ability. But, for me, if a player is good enough, their true quality will shine through

Dozzell always looks dozy to me when he is on the pitch. He is totally unfit and slow which is why he always has to tug at opponents shirts and get pointless yellow cards. If he can't work his magic when there is no one in the ground (or does he not open his mouth) then how is he going to do it when there is a noisy crowd in the stadium. Get rid for as much money as possible. There are so many better fit players out there with a voice.

I genuinely think that, in a good team, he would shine. Personally I hope that's us next season

Dozzell has not for me improved much. We are told these like Dozzell Downes and Woolfenden are great players but they have not shown that in the 3rd tier of English football .

Toney ripped League one apart and went on to do the same in the Championship, those are the sort of players we need.

I think the players that had their contracts extended are player that are alright at this level but is we can sell them it's a few quid in the transfer kitty.
A cording to the EADT there has been a figure of £40 million has been reported as Cook's war chest.

We will see if that is correct as the transfer business gets under way.

Might be best for him to get out of his little comfort zone at Ipswich but then again i think Cooks going to change the culture big time. Either way he's in for a shock.

I wonder if we should read anything into Cardiff not seemingly being interested in him.

If he was THAT good then surely Mick McCarthy would be looking to take him after seeing him first hand for several years.

I'm sure we'll negotiate a fiver for him.

As pointed out by beattiesbackpicket, if your game is passing, you can only be as good as the movement of the players ahead of you. The only effective movement over the last year has come from Norwood on the occasions he has been fit. Even Arnold Muhren would have looked rubbish in the Ipswich side over the last year.

Bluefox when did you ever see Dozy Dozzell wanting the ball and running and making space to receive it from his team mates ? Nah thought not. He just stands there waiting for the ball to come to him. There is no movement from him. If we can get him off the wage bill then great and if we can also get some money for him then we are laughing! COYB!

The ignorance of fans in here is shocking. Dozzell needs to stay for the clubs sake but not sure he should given the idiotic opinions of his own clubs fans. Clearly a class player who with the right supporting cast would do well. Not sure Wigan's kit man is the right guy to tell him where he's going wrong unless it's what fabric conditioner to use. His biggest fault is he wasn't born in Liverpool

Karlosfandangal what planet are you on? £40m war chest. What idiot told You that? FFP means we are shopping in the same Aisle as lambert had to. Honestly the ignorance on here is stunning. We can't spend millions if we don't generate far more. It's like talking to a bunch of 3 year olds at times. You really do think we'll be splashing out millions on players don't you😳

I Have never understood the hype around him occasional good pass. Rest of time can't tackle can't shoot can't hold on to ball. Doesn't go for the second ball. In my eyes only a payed professional because of daddy. Cya mate

After 42 games, you would think he might have made player of the year instead of Wilson who played much less and is average at best. 1 goal just isn't going to cut it. Seriously if he can't even stand out in this team of has been's then I think it's time.

Monkey blue i think you will find we can invest in buying the players its the wages that are affected by FFS

A lot of the posts on here are missing the point. He might well perform better in a higher league but he hasn't performed in this league. We have got to fight our way into a higher league. Cook will want players who can get us there. Once there we will be able to go back into the market again for Championship players. We do not need players on the books and drawing a salary if they are not equipped for the job at hand.

My issue is would these players be better and show there talent and potential if they had better players around them now we are building with funds?

Andre is the League One version of Mezut Ozil. There is quality there but we haven't been able to make much use of it. It will probably be best for all parties if he moved on to a club where there is a better standard of player. I can see him doing well at a higher level.

So Dozzell struggles in a Ipswich team because he's surrounded by rubbish players. Edwards, Nolan, Bishop, and Judge all players who have scored and created more than him. I think he might be the problem not the players around him. The question is there a club bigger enough for him out there. Will Gareth Southgate take him to the Euro's.

Sorry, can't believe I'm reading comments that this lad is quality, you simply can't be season ticket holders, or looking at him through rose tinted glasses. He simply isn't good enough even for league one. Gives the ball away too many times on the edge of his own area, doesn't score enough as a midfielder even in league one and needs serious beefing up!

Sell, move on, it's as simple as that... Stop supporting what could be and realise that after almost 4 seasons he is not making the grade!

Andre clearly has great potential, there is no doubt about that. But sometimes players do need a move to freshen up, take on new ideas, hear from other coaches, etc.. to move them on to the next level. There is a no doubt a big possibility he will thrive in a team with better quality players, but right now, cook has a certain style of play, and Andre does not fit into that. Maybe in 4 years time, we can buy him back to play in the Prem with us, because that family does have blue blood running through their veins.

If he goes to any of those Clubs and does well it won't be that has happened at Town, or any other club for that matter. Remenber Rihodes, Delaney, McCauley, Marriott........

i am baffled by the views that is that he is such a good player that we need to keep him, often he dosnt ''turn up'' or goes missing in game, he is not a workhorse, .He does put a few moves together sometimes and people seem to remember them rather than overall performance. Yes he is young, probably a nice kid, but he has not shown enough or improved enough imo ,if we can get a reasonable fee id say take it, and good luck to him .

Maybe he needs to get out of his dads shadow I think we should loan him to a higher team to see how he gets o .
