Bishop Closing in On Lincoln Move
Wednesday, 21st Jul 2021 11:28

Midfielder Teddy Bishop is close to completing a move to Lincoln City.

The 25-year-old had been expected to join the MK Dons with that proposed switch having dragged on for more than a month, but we understand is at the Sincil Bank club today to tie up the formalities on a move to the Imps.

As reported early in the summer, Bishop’s hometown club Cambridge United showed interest, while Portsmouth and Hearts were more recently linked, although the claims regarding the Scottish Premiership side were subsequently dismissed.

Bishop has been training with the U23s this summer having been told he can move on. He played what was his final game in a Town shirt at Bury Town last Tuesday.

In total, Bishop made 81 starts and 51 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring five times.

Unable to play 90 minutes goes missing in games . Wont be missed hope he does well at Lincoln though but fear he will be in and out of the team.

To be honest, I'll be glad when some club has taken him on.
Then everybody can move on and stop looking back at his stuttering career with rose tinted glasses.

Hope sort of fee involved plus the wages lost and a decent sell on clause. Just have a feeling he will go nowhere and his time has passed. A shame but football is littered with maybe players. Possibly an attitude problem as much as ability. Edwards of a similar ilk and both have probably found their level of mid table third division which is no good to the yanks or Cook.

Like many on here I am sad to see Bish go as I think in the right environment he can be a top player.

First and foremost he is a really good footballer, and should be able to adapt to play other positions, now it might seem a waste to try and play him in a more wide role but his ability as such should make him versatile, I could also see him as an attacking fullback or wingback but suggest Bish might not be too keen to become a bit more of a versatile player.

However, PC will be under intense pressure to succeed, if you could move Teddy out and reallocate that wage and any small fee to a more suitable resource for the squad with less injury risk than I can hardly blame PC for wanting to move him on.

Pencilpete spot on! He's been playing for 7 seasons now and not down to him but injuries have scuppered most of that on his day brill but hasn't moved on at all albeit mainly due to injuries. We need to get our monies worth from players now not keep concerning ourselves with someone constantly inured or coming out the youth set up but never really progressing.

Well said BeattiesBackPocket it seems we are going for quality over quantity and not before time. I still expect us to be in the black after transfer dealings with Ashton this window which would be an almightily impressive result. What is the point in paying players to sit on the bench or not even make the 18 for a match?

Time to move on, looks like we will get a fee if more than one club involved, good luck Teddy

The only player from our "crop of talented, promising youngsters" to step up a lge is Dozzell and I suspect he'll find himself warming the bench for long periods of time. Tells a story doesn't it?

Look we need or some of us need a reality check! If we were signing someone with his injury record his goal scoring record and his age , how many would be jumping joy? Not many I suspect!

A fans favourite for sure, but needs to move on and I wish him all the best!

It will be very interesting to see how Bish, Doz and Edwards fare this season. If they all have a strong season it will suggest that it was not their lack of quality that was the problem but more about our club, it's management, coaching and ability to get the most out of its players that was the issue

Good luck Bish.

Sorry to see him go, but a fresh start is probably the best for both parties. We would be selling to a rival, as I see Lincoln as one of the teams we will have to do battle with if we want a top 6 spot. Add Slumberland, Pompey, Bolton, Wigan, maybe Charlton and Wednesday, and no doubt a couple more, and this league will not be a walkover for us by any means. But we are getting well tooled up for the fight.

I wish Teddy all the best. Definite talent there but prone to injury is a massive downfall

A huge disappointment that none of the young midfield trio fully took their chances when they were given them. Bishop and Dozzell have abilities so either it was what was around them that caused their malaise or the players themselves. Downes may yet make his mark but may not pass the Cook test. Midfield has been our biggest problem since the days of Holland and Magilton. It's the engine room of any team that requires tough characters with an attacking mindset. Hopefully, that is what we have now obtained. Good luck to Bishop, Lincoln is a good choice.

I wish the Bish well. Really disappointing that he was never able to produce what he did in his first season again. A move will do him good & a reality check away from the security blanket of ITFC. He has the ability to step up to the plate but I'm not sure fitness wise he does. Time will tell

Not bothered, really. Injury prone, a bit lightweight and at 25 has flattered to deceive. Many still talk of him as a young player but he's nearly halfway through his career and still hasn't delivered on that promise as far as I'm concerned.

5 goals in 123 appearances as an attacking midfielder? Not good enough.

I wish him all the best.

Hmm.....5 goals in 81 app 51 as sub. Attacking midfielder very poor return. New signing Frazier 14 goals last season. No room for sentimentality....no good enough. Wish him all the best though and hope he stays injury free.

Certainly a decent player on his day when he turns up. Sadly for us, mainly due to injuries, those days have been few and far between.

We'll never know if with a better fitness, physio and medical team behind him, whether we would have seen a lot more good days from Teddy. And as we've found out before when we've let players go with questionable injury records (such as DmG) and then suddenly they are playing almost every week!

Anyway, all water under the bridge now it seems. I wish Teddy well at Lincoln. I'm really not sure how it will work out for him there. We shall see...

He could have got on the bus if he wanted …. He didn't so bye bye ….. some people say bishop had talent … what as exactly ?? Goal scoring midfielder? … that's a no… holding midfielder? .. the only thing he held was his leg went it was injured. Creative midfielder ? Do me a favour the only thing he created was a toxic atmosphere in the dressing room… Lincoln's loss is our gain

Hear hear Chris. I saw him in Town once in a bar, he was an arrogant pr1ck.

If you can't shine in League 1 then so be it. Shame - wish him all the best - but just too injury prone.

I think Bishop falls into the same category as all our young players that have come through towns system in the last 10 years, technically good but lacking physical strength resulting in way too many injuries.

I think he'll do ok at Lincoln same as Dozzell at QPR, but ok is exactly that, mediocre. This club has been clinging onto mediocre praying they will come good and it never happened. We need hardened quality players that are good this coming season, not hoping they will in the next couple of years.

Wish him all the very best in future endeavours.

Bit gutted about this, a player that oozes class and would suit a higher level of football.

But I suppose his engine isn't good enough, his injuries have hampered him and he hasn't at this level been able to command games.

Sorry to see him go, though. Come back fitter and stronger Super Ted and hopefully Town will be too.

People saying this proves he wasn't good enough? Where did Lincoln finish last season? Sad to see Teddy go, he finally seems over his injury problems. He's missed so much football you need to ignore his age and look at games played. There is a lot more to come from him.
