Ashton Writes to Fans at End of Town's Summer Recruitment Revolution
Tuesday, 31st Aug 2021 21:46

Blues chief executive Mark Ashton has written to fans at the conclusion of Town’s summer recruitment revolution, Bersant Celina and Samy Morsy having become senior additions 18 and 19 ahead of today’s 11pm deadline.

Dear supporters

I wanted to directly speak with you ahead of the summer transfer window closing later tonight.

We’ve signed 19 players this summer - two of those being finalised today - but that is all in terms of incomings.

While I cannot rule them out, any outgoings in the final hours of the transfer window are highly unlikely.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank a wide range of people behind the club who have been absolutely fantastic in a very busy summer.

I also need to say a big thank you to the board, the investors and the owners in enabling us to bring the players in that we have and build what we feel is a great squad.

There’s a lot of hard work ahead of us - both on and off the pitch - and as I’ve said before, we can only achieve success together. Now, let’s get down to work and get on with the season.

Thank you, as ever, for your fantastic support.

Mark Ashton

No excuses now, Paul Cook. You've got everything and everyone you wanted. Now make it happen.

Fabulous Mr Ashton! You have achieved so much in your short tenure. And its great to have such backing to create exciting times ahead.....yes PC needs to deliver but on paper this team should click and see us climb the table. Feeling positive - go team ITFC!

The man's a lightweight. He needs to put his back into it. He's not replaced the pitch, the stands or built a training facility. Gluey could do with a hoover and shampoo and he's done zippo about the miserable weather. He's not signed Batistuta and the Lazio friendly hasn't been organised. No free beer either. Boo!!!

Back on earth, well done Mr Ashton. You've been true to your word and done a brilliant job.

This is incredible, how Ashton has managed to get all this business done is nothing short of a miracle. With the transfer window now closed, if he can use his energy and talents to improve the club in other areas too, we are in for a fantastic future. Unless I'm very much mistaken, we could be seeing the renaissance of the club we love.

Now let's do our bit - fill Portman Road - and make it Rock again, just like we have many times before.
Let's be grateful we have a Great Club, with real backing from the top once again.
Once a BLUE - always a BLUE. Never doubt that.

Feels so good to have a serious and competent person in charge compared to the clownish operation Evans was running.

While Ashton deserves much of the credit, this has truly been a team effort. Cook & his team clearly identify targets, Ashton & team clearly go get them, but we can't underestimate the power the vision & goals the club have and the passion of the fans that attracts so many to this "big" club. Decent players signing means other decent players want in too. I've heard all those mentioned as the reason why players have signed, including dropping down for Cook. He's had a rough time & I think he's been our strongest asset yet results so far are unfairly all that some short sighted fans have foolishly focused on. We have assembled the Avengers, not just for league one, but for the championship. It's been a long & carefully planned & coordinated behind the scenes passion for all involved. Give them all some credit, get off their backs now, let them get on with the most exciting rebuild Ipswich has ever seen, no matter what the short term results.

Now we've assembled all the Ipswich Avengers, can we change our walk out music to the Avengers theme tune?

A fantastic window, a massive well done to everyone involved. Now let's forget the boos and the banners, none of which are required or do any good!

Come on you blues!!!

God, what a breath of fresh air Mark Ashton is after the succession of fumblers we have had to endure in his role. We are now landing players that Championship clubs were also interested in and now even persuading players to step down from the Championship to League 1.
Landing Morsy is another great coup. I am wondering if him and Tom Carroll will become the first choice central midfielders. At least we now have some depth of decent players there after years of light-weights. I cannot wait for our next run of matches.... coyb

The 2 things m. Evans did well was buying our club but selling it to the right people was his greatest moment. I hated the 13 or 14 yrs in between. But onwards and upwards now. Like a divorce its all behind us now. . Its obvious ashton has done a superb job but lets give cook a mention too. He has done what he said hed do. A mark of a man. Players like him hence he has got former players to sign from higher up the pyramid . Well done mr cook. Now his coaching begins. Lets give him a break until xmass to put it all together. Step one is complete a new squad. Roll on the blues and work ure socks off. Super blues forever 💙

This guy has worked wonders, really has. I wonder how he felt seeing and hearing the pathetic banners and boos, hope he and the owners know that most of us totally appreciative the hard work and that we in no way agree with the boos and banners!
Come on you blues

Now that an incredible transfer window has closed and we have a squad of players who appear to be of a level above standard Lge 1 fare the focus now turns fully on PC. So please now Paul make me eat my words and show us that you really can fire us up the league

Absolutely incredible work from Mark and the team including the owners. What a fantastic summer of recruitment and no town fan can ever complain about the amount of work and the result of that work that has gone on. It's all down to us fans now to support the team both on and off the pitch.
Let's get behind PC and make PR a place that away teams fear. COYB.

I urge all Town supporters to exercise a little patience over the next few months. Mark Ashton and his backing team have done an excellent job re-building not only the team but the whole club, the owners have put their money where their mouth is an no doubt there are many who would love to see us fail, including some so called supporters, which I will never understand!! This is still a job in action and not complete yet.

I have faith in the owners, the staff and the players to deliver, but above all I have faith in Paul Cook. The future is bright.

Who would have believed it a year ago ? On and off the field, the club is being transformed and has come out of the dark ages. Ashton clearly knows his job, Cook appears to know what he wants and the players look hungry. Coach out the defensive lapses, learn from personal mistakes and this squad could and should motor. Blackpool were in the same position as ourselves this time last year and look what they achieved. Ok, it may be a squeeze this season to get automatic promotion but the excitement of watching a team on the front foot has alluded us for a decade so we all have reasons to be cheerful. Just don't look at the league table on Saturday !!

shame we couldnt transfer the boo boys and numpties who wanted cooky gone after 5 lge games the state of some of the comments on here and social media after saturday is extremely sad after the years of dross we have had to put up with. lockdown has definetly had an effect i think.

I have worries about being owned by an American pension fund but in all fairness they have been as good as their word so far and brought in players who could play a league higher, with the unconditional support he has received Paul Cook is expected to gain promotion, anything less will be a failure
