Dyer Resigns as U23s Manager Monday, 21st Mar 2022 15:27
Town U23s manager Kieron Dyer has resigned from his role with immediate effect, the club has announced.
Former England international Dyer had been in the position since October 2020 with his side currently top of Professional Development League Two South having finished second last season.
A statement from the club reads: “Ipswich Town Football Club can confirm that Kieron Dyer has resigned from his position as U23s manager with immediate effect.
“Kieron had been in charge of the young Blues since October 2020 and leaves the U23s following a successful season to date.”
Town CEO Mark Ashton told the club site: “It has come as a surprise to us that Kieron wishes to stand down from his role as U23s manager.
“Kieron’s played his part in the development of some of our young players and we thank him for his efforts.
“I speak on behalf of everyone at the club in wishing Kieron all the very best with his future.”
Ipswich-born Dyer, a Town youth product as a player, previously worked with the U16s and U18s at Playford Road.
In November, just prior to his stint as interim-manager, John McGreal was appointed to a role assisting Dyer with the U23s while working specifically on players' IDPs [Individual Development Plans]. It's likely the former centre-half will be in sole charge of the squad until a new appointment is made.
The U23s are in action away against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday afternoon.
A man who has a kind heart and is a good person deep down. Will be missed in the office and on the grass by staff and players. Wish him the best for his future and thankful for the help and guidance he has given me with my coaching journey so far! pic.twitter.com/lEwLalBLKl
A man who helped me at my footballing lowest. A man who understood me. A man that helped me, pushed for me. Having experienced him as a coach there’s no one better for a young pro coming through and is a huge loss. KD one of the good ones 👊🼠pic.twitter.com/VUrOaWWO8t
One of the best coaches I’ve ever worked with thank you for all your advice and honesty, all the best for the future!ðŸ™ðŸ¾ https://t.co/6YlzB4nu8I
The realist ! thanks for everything, you went above and beyond as a coach and someone to talk too. all the best for the future. Not many left like you ðŸ™ðŸ¿ https://t.co/PCKfVnEXXb
One of the most honest and best coaches I’ve had in my career so far, wish him all the best in his coaching and hope to be under him in a first team environment 🙌🾠https://t.co/YFVmVrraAb
One of the best coaches I have ever worked with, it was a privilege. gave me a lot of responsibility and trust will be sadly missed by all https://t.co/dTaHhOYf50
McGreal isn't here for long term though is he? He has a stated desire of being a manager so surely is just waiting for the right job?
As for KD 100% club legend, not so much for his playing days ad he wasn't here long enough but always did a lot, sponsored various youth team players over the years and has always been there to lend and ear.
As other say, hope it's not health related, maybe time to cut his teeth as manager
Gilesy. How the hell does "being a surprise" mean that it wasn't amicable? It was a surprise, bcse no1 knew about it until today when he resigned. Just typical that fans would try to make something out of nothing. Likelihood is, that it's because of his health being as it is. Sure all will be revealed in time.
For me Towns best ever home player better than Beattie in my opinion but like Beattie had terrible luck with injuries. I think too many people are jumping to conclusions the reasons for his departure. Perhaps he thought the lack of opportunities at the club made his mind up. At times he does show a lack of maturity to be a manager at a high level and maybe a coaching job at a lower club would be the next step up the ladder. Anyway i wish him all the best what ever he does.
One of our own, and you dont have to lift the European cup to be heralded as a legend at this club. The man held just about every role here and I wish him well. Blue to the boneðŸ‘💙
Thanks Kieron, for all your help and support over the years, especially to the young lads starting out on their careers. You always “said it how it is” and it's clear you had the boys' respect from their many supportive comments! I wish you all the best for whatever comes your way next.
Blues1 - it's my interpretation of the words chosen by Ashton. It's not a criticism of either person, it's merely a comment based on how I infer the words. I note your disagreement.
Unfortunately for kieran the chaotic management of our 1st team over the last few years and the change of owner has trapped him in 23s for the forceable future with the club continually recruiting from outside.. maybe he needs to earn his stripes in the outside world before the opportunities he thinks should be afforded to him are offered by clubs like Ipswich
If it's to do with the Under 23's limited involvement and progression in the Senior Squad - that can be understood. Tyreece Simpson is a typical case in point - why he hasn't been in that First Team squad with us firing so many blanks is beyond me and many, I guess. Dyer is ready to step up now to a Manager / First Team Coach at a Club - his Under 23 success proves that. My guess is he has been approached, if not he will soon be … !!!
KD, the man, the legend. If opta did players stats for his last match in a town shirt v Bolton then they would have been off the scale. All the best KD...I'm sure we will see you as our boss one day.
My deepest fear is that this is over his health. If so I pray that he gets over it and back in employment ASAP. He has does wonders with the U23s and will be sorely missed.
You either resign because of a falling out or another job to go to. I think a lack of an explanation at this stage probably points to either. I'm not sure that with Dyers health issue's taking a full time managers job anywhere would be wise for him or a club. Given his track record over the years I'm not surprised by the announcement earlier this week. It is a shame as the players seemed to work well with him and relate to him on many issues.
i think maybe should have waited till next season after his Op . , now is not the time for youngsters , but his decision is from the heart, all the best for I hope a great future .
Such a shame, I agree with what he has said about the progression of our youngsters into or having involvement with the first team. I admire his reasons and principals behind his resignation and worry that this may be a glitch in our clubs future. ITFC has always had a good academy with players coming through, the best must flourish and not be sold off.
I wish Keiron all the best with his impending surgery and recovery, he is an Ipswich boy through and through and I hope one day this excellent young coach is deemed good enough to return as our manager. It's apparent the young players and staff love him, but if they can push out Butcher, then they can push out anyone. So sad he's gone.
