Town Make Bid For Leeds Left-Back Davis
Tuesday, 5th Jul 2022 11:39

TWTD understands Town have made a bid for Leeds United left-back Leif Davis.

The offer is understood to be around the £1 million mark plus additional cash in potential top-ups.

Newcastle-born Davis, 22, was with Morecambe’s youth set-up as a schoolboy before joining the Elland Road club’s academy in July 2018.

Davis, who is 6ft tall and can also operate as a wing-back and at centre-half, spent last season on loan at AFC Bournemouth in the Championship, making 10 starts and five sub appearances, a move which was initially viewed as a precursor to a permanent switch.

However, injury limited his involvement and he returned to Elland Road before the end of the campaign.

For his parent club he has made six first-team starts and has made eight appearances from the bench.

Town have already signed one left-back this summer, former Morecambe man Greg Leigh, however it had been expected that they would look to bring in a second before the start of the season.

I'd imagine Penney is still very much in the frame. Thompson was awful, Coulson built like a twiglet, Clements well off the standard required. This lad didn't impress enough(albeit in a injury hit period at Bournemouth) for them to take up the option, and Leigh I know nothing about, but being released by Morecambe has me fretting. Faith in McKenna's judgement on this one if it's to happen.

Does anyone know if he wants to sign for us and drop down the leagues? Presumably, he's interested or we wouldn't be persuing him.

Same people who are writing off Penney probably wrote off Jackson. His performances under McKenna were much improved.

Not heard of the lad but we will see what happens, more concerned regarding the other end of the pitch, can't see a lot of goals in the squad !!

Dog the difference as you say is how clubs are run and the new owners seem to be making use of every angle of revenue including speculating to accumulate ie spend money on electronic boards around the ground because it brings in a helluva lot more revenue per year than plain boarding, naming stands, bringing in the absolute genius of marketing by getting one of the biggest artists to sponsor his home town team which has in turn seen a massive uplift in shirt sales, a better team quality wise means a better attendance look at last season and now this which again wouldn't be accounted for in those figures. For such a successful business man evans was naive at making money in football unless you count selling our best players and bringing in league two standard players. We'll see the accounts next year for how well we done under new owners that money talked about above was under evans tenure.

@Blues1 it's not about transfer fees is it, it's about wages and how much we are allowed to spend. Thankfully with increased season ticket sales and having lost some players who probably cover off the wages of the new signings for once I sort of agree with you. Norwood was on silly wages at this level when we could outbid Charlton to sign him.

Wouldn't be surprised if Penney or/and Burgess were sold if we do sign this fella...Maybe a little top heavy in that department with Ndaba and Baggott in there as back up...

1 mill for a player? Thats to expensive at 3th level. Better find players in league 1 who is proven.

hope this comes off, i do worry sometimes when i read about prospective players having had injury probs, but its to be expected in the grand scheme of things i suppose. Im still worried about fire power , Everything is a gamble i know, but i feel we are under gunned and Pigott has done nothing at all to show he is up to what we need, if he is to stay, i hope he proves me wrong. But i worry we will again struggle to get goals, i dont want to see another season of playing catch up and looking for a desperate January signing.

Interesting why a player at a Premier League club & just back from a top Championship team would want to come to a third division side. But maybe our management team can sell him the dream.

Chrisfelix - would it be anymore of a surprise that the club being able to convince Morsy or Walton to sign permanently?.

He would be a useful acquisition. This would allow Penny to move on as he's nowhere near the required level if we want top six.

Our own Eileen Drewery ? Fair play to McKenna for resisting Ashton's enthusiasm on this one and keeping him arms length from the first team.
