Town Closing in On Ahadme Signing Thursday, 1st Sep 2022 09:17
Town are closing in on the deadline-day signing of Burton Albion striker Gassan Ahadme.
We understand the 21-year-old is expected at Portman Road later today to complete the formalities on a permanent switch to the Blues with the transfer window closing at 11pm.
Ahadme, who was born in Spain but has represented Morocco at U23 level, impressed when facing the Blues for the Brewers in Town’s 1-0 win at the Pirelli Stadium last month.
Having been with Club Gimnastic Manresa, the 6ft 1in tall frontman moved on to Norwich City’s youth set-up and while at Carrow Road spent time on loan at Real Oviedo, playing for their B team.
He had a subsequent spell with Portsmouth during the first half of last season - netting onced in six starts and four sub appearances - before joining Burton on a permanent basis in January without having played a senior game for the Canaries.
Since moving to the Brewers he has scored eight times in 16 starts and six sub appearances. This season he has already netted five times and picked up two assists.
Town are aiming to sign two players before this evening's deadline with another striker having been their main target for much of the summer.
Leicester's George Hirst was chased for much of the close season but with the Foxes ultimately offering the former Sheffield Wednesday youngster a new contract and yesterday sent him out on loan to Blackburn.
With the Hirst deal looking unlikely to take place, Leicester were asking a fee significantly in excess of the £2 million widely reported, Town more recently turned their attention to alternative options as they looked to add to their squad before today’s deadline.
Sheffield United youngster Will Osula was believed to be among those on the list, but with other League One clubs, including Derby County, Burton Albion and Lincoln City, all thought to be interested.
TWTD understands former Blues striker Will Keane was also one of those of interest.
The 29-year-old, whose current terms are up next summer, has had a successful spell at Wigan since his release by Town in the summer of 2020 and we understand is set to stay at with the Latics and sign a new deal.

Tractor boy big why can't you just be excited like most of us , he has scored 6 goals this season started 4 so he is not a sub , and he was possibly watched long before we signed him , we have enough ex Norwich on the playing staff , who would have known him , and then all the data on him , we may have unearthed a diamond , McKenna we trust and all the research that goes into it
I don't always understand the logic of some moves like this one from the selling club's perspective. If he's that great, surely Burton need him to survive. Are we really offering a lot of money for him, or is it just too disruptive when a relatively big club come in for a player and the offer just needs to be accepted if a reasonable price?
There must always be factors around any sale and purchase of which we are and will largely remain unaware ; but we do have certain knowledge of the ITFC methods and strategy ,coupled with a Manager and team who can be relied upon and whose judgement can be trusted ! It'll be very interesting to see how much improvement this young man makes over the months ahead ; he'll be coming in to a unified group of players where he'll be made welcome and given every encouragement . Looks like another super string added to the bow ! COYB
If we do this deal we will have 3 players on 3 goals (top 5 equal) at this stage of the season. Plus Ladapo, KJ, JJ, Burns, Morsey and others chipping in… another creative player and we'd have an embarrassment of riches at this level.
That alighted to KMs increasingly bedded in spirit and strategy and I'm more than confident we have enough to win this league.
In the same way that Mings no doubt benefitted from being under John Terry's tutelage, this lad only joined Burton in January and has had the guidance and development from Jimmy Floyd Hasslebank and 2022 is clearly his real breakthrough year. 8 in 16 since Jan and 5 already this season. Thanks JFH, timing is everything and this is our time!
I'd be interested to know if he was on our list before the recent Burton game or as a product of his performance in it. I thought he was very good and none of our defenders looked comfortable against him. He seems a good player already with obvious potential to improve, which of course is what KMc does. It's a yes please from me therefore.
Looks like the kind of player who can mix it a bit at L1 level and give us a bit of bite up front. Happy with this rather than a loan - if it comes off, which is never certain until it's certain. (I refer you to the saga of Simpson vs Huddersfield vs West Brom.) PS: Nice one "Exeter".
