Town Closing in On Ahadme Signing
Thursday, 1st Sep 2022 09:17

Town are closing in on the deadline-day signing of Burton Albion striker Gassan Ahadme.

We understand the 21-year-old is expected at Portman Road later today to complete the formalities on a permanent switch to the Blues with the transfer window closing at 11pm.

Ahadme, who was born in Spain but has represented Morocco at U23 level, impressed when facing the Blues for the Brewers in Town’s 1-0 win at the Pirelli Stadium last month.

Having been with Club Gimnastic Manresa, the 6ft 1in tall frontman moved on to Norwich City’s youth set-up and while at Carrow Road spent time on loan at Real Oviedo, playing for their B team.

He had a subsequent spell with Portsmouth during the first half of last season - netting onced in six starts and four sub appearances - before joining Burton on a permanent basis in January without having played a senior game for the Canaries.

Since moving to the Brewers he has scored eight times in 16 starts and six sub appearances. This season he has already netted five times and picked up two assists.

Town are aiming to sign two players before this evening's deadline with another striker having been their main target for much of the summer.

Leicester's George Hirst was chased for much of the close season but with the Foxes ultimately offering the former Sheffield Wednesday youngster a new contract and yesterday sent him out on loan to Blackburn.

With the Hirst deal looking unlikely to take place, Leicester were asking a fee significantly in excess of the £2 million widely reported, Town more recently turned their attention to alternative options as they looked to add to their squad before today’s deadline.

Sheffield United youngster Will Osula was believed to be among those on the list, but with other League One clubs, including Derby County, Burton Albion and Lincoln City, all thought to be interested.

TWTD understands former Blues striker Will Keane was also one of those of interest.

The 29-year-old, whose current terms are up next summer, has had a successful spell at Wigan since his release by Town in the summer of 2020 and we understand is set to stay at with the Latics and sign a new deal.

He was so good against us led the line so well and gave our defence numerous problems so mobile where it wasn't until Jackson came on that we had a goal threat this could be a very exciting signing he is in the Mkenna mould

Just checked out his Wikipedia listing.
Had to laugh, some jolly person had added, "famous catchphrase is suffolk soon enough but! Currently in the back of Mark Ashton's Koo Ait on the A14".
Love it.

Well, well, well. Squad numbers continue to swell.
A footballing sage might say this lad's a good age, and decent experience as well.

Worth the punt on a unit up front? Probably so, to put some pressure on Freddie Lapado.
This lad may well score but we might even get one more.

You'd be mad not to be glad at the progress that's been had
This is clearly permanent, not a just a fad.

And It's A-Had,
Ahadme's gonna score.

To the tune of A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall.

Positively Portman - purely because Black Lace's Agadoo is one of our nation's greatest cultural offerings to the world, and is criminally underused as a football chant, I give you...

Ahadme me me, Gass's got you on the run
Ahadme me me, Gass's scoring just for fun
From the left, from the right, he's worth almost a million
Ahadme me me, he's our Spanish Moroccan

Don't know much about him but at the moment Lapado doesn't seem mobile enough to play up front on his own. Jackson has done a reasonable job when asked but is probably just adequate cover. Will Keane was the best striker i saw down Portman road last season and we struggled to handle his movement and mobility but a third term here is highly unlikely. Tyreece John Jules is a very promising young player but not really a back to the goal out and out target man and tends to play the more deeper lying Number 10 role.

What's not to like about this one? Effectively a direct replacement for Simpson. Young, strong and proven goal scorer.. Fingers crossed he'd do a job for us..
Would still like us to bring Bonne back for another spell..

Tractor boy big no it's about preparing the pudding , until it's as good as it can be , and then you trust in the pudding to enjoy it , just listen to a manager or a Gordon Ramsey who has more know how than you
