Coleman: We Didn't Deserve to Lose
Sunday, 4th Sep 2022 09:53

Accrington manager John Coleman felt there was a foul in the build-up to Town’s second goal during the Blues’ 2-0 win at the Wham Stadium yesterday and that his team didn't deserve to lose.

Coleman was pleased with his team’s performance overall but frustrated that referee Anthony Backhouse hadn’t given a foul against Town early in the move which led to Conor Chaplin’s second goal of the afternoon.

“I thought we were very good, defended really well against one of the top sides in the league, stifled to them to not many chances,” he told his club’s official website.

“They scored from a set play, I’d have scored the second goal when we haven’t had a free-kick on the edge of the box, it’s just barmy.

“I’ll get an apology tomorrow but it won’t stop the hurt of getting beaten 2-0 because we were still in the game at 1-0.

“It was a free-kick for us on the edge of the box. Instead of us having a shot, it’s in our net.

“Alright, we should defend it better and the deflection’s a little bit harsh on us, but I don’t think we deserved to lose the game today.

“We had the first 20 minutes, then they took control and then we got on top of them in the second half.

“We looked a little bit ragged after they scored as we were trying to chase the game but I’d love to be in the position to put on the strikers they put on.

“Unfortunately, we’ve got players injured, we put our go-to striker on [Korede Adedoyin] and he lasted two minutes.

“When things go bad, they just go worse. We’ve got to patch ourselves up, we’ve got a big game on Tuesday [at Forest Green Rovers].”

He added: “I wish we got fouls that the other team get because it’s just a reoccurring theme now, it’s been happening for years.

“I’ll get the apology tomorrow, I know I’ll get the apology tomorrow. Our player kicks the ball, you’ve only got to look at which way the ball goes.

“Our player kicks the ball, he kicks his ankle. That’s the disappointing thing. I just wish we were treated the same as every other team.

“It’s probably bad luck that we’re not, but we never get the rub of the green with the decisions.”

Elsewhere, former England cricketer and pundit David Lloyd, a Stanley fan, tweeted that he was hugely impressed by the Blues and Accrington chairman Andy Holt, not a favourite among Town supporters after reporting skipper Sam Morsy for an off-the-ball clash last season and comments made regarding the income the club receive from streaming more recently, had praise for the Blues.

Listening on the radio it appears that many of their physical challenges were not penalised. So ironic that first cautions given to a player in blue

Coleman is just a big scouse ****ker just like Paul Cook - managers that are soon to be in the bin with other 'old school' relics!

Another terrible refereeing performance - we were getting kicked to pieces and the ref did nothing. Well done by the Town players for keeping calm and continuing to play the football which paid off in the end.

Coleman needs to look at the stats, only one team in it. Bit like a street fighter v Muhammad Ali except we can dish it out as well if we have to & we do have Sam the Man, I bet no one relishes playing against him-a well trained beast. Coleman's style is archaic as the Dinosaur's, pub team stuff after a few pints🤣

We weren´t creating chance after chance today, but we certainly deserved the win (and the stats backs this up)

Good point Chris Felix - Davies did seem to lose his cool a bit there, as it was directly after I think Jackson got clobbered from behind, again.

Oh and BTW, just to echo what everyone has said - Coleman must have been watching a different game or he's just full of sh@t. Old school dinosaur of the worst order.

Every report I've read or heard, including from Accrington supporters, seems to contradict Coleman's view entirely!

I've forgotten just how many times I've heard Coleman ( mainly on tv),say pretty much the same thing after losing games. Really is a really bad loser.

Mandy Rice-Davies' famous comment rings true here! Or he's trawled through Paul Lambert's post match archive!

Thankfully we sacked our excuse spouting manager last year. As I watched the interview I couldn't help but think of Cook. How did they stifle us? It's a reflex to spout garbage with old school managers it seems. In fairness unlike PC he tried to throw the ref under the bus rather than his own players.

Deluded old dinosaur. I've watched the second goal back a couple of times and cannot see anything that resembles a challenge let alone a foul. He will be waiting a very long time for an apology from the ref, quite bizarre comments.

A huge gulf between the respective managers.

A horrible, horrible game of football. I feel sorry for some of Accrington's players (and supporters) who would love to play the football they are capable of. Unfortunately, that isn't in the game plan. Disrupt, destroy, bully, wrestle and do whatever it takes to stop Ipswich playing were the orders of the day. But bullies hate it when the victims hit back. One comedy moment was when Hamilton screamed about half-a-second before Burgess got to him. Some Town fans mimicked his scream for a few seconds and Clark couldn't take the resulting throw-in for laughing. Even some of their own players realise how much cheating goes on. Well done Town. 2-0 to the football team.

Oh dear what a pity.
I think there will be a few managers who will grizzle this season and who will never accept that sometimes they will get beaten by better teams.

he should get a job with the conservatives or the US republicans if he spouts such reality denying nonsense....how the hell do you deserve to win if you dont score any goals and the opposition scores 2 ?

Great to hear that we were not put off our game by their tactics. We look significantly bigger and physically stronger than many Town teams have for years and hence better able to cope with the bully boys in teams like Accrington. Onwards and upwards ........
