Around 25,000 Seats Sold For Portsmouth
Wednesday, 21st Sep 2022 15:57

Town have sold around 25,000 seats for the top-of-the-table clash with Portsmouth at Portman Road on Saturday 1st October, the first of the three #PackOutPR matches.

The Blues have reprised last December’s successful ticket promotion with an adult ticket bundle covering the three matches costing £45.

Full details of the scheme, which also covers the Lincoln and Derby home matches, can be found here.

For the visit of Pompey, who are currently second behind Town on goal difference, the club has made available the remainder of the tickets, including some restricted view seats, which are priced £1 cheaper for a match ticket and £3 cheaper for the three-game bundle.

Meanwhile, the Blues have sold just over 1,000 tickets for Sunday's live-on-Sky game against third-placed Plymouth at Home Park.

Will be very surprised if the crowd is not over 28,000. Not sure what the capacity is now but it's under 30,000 . The last time we had a sell out was against Norwich i think it was about 29,300. The Sunderland game last season was reportedly a sell out but there was empty seats in the upper Bobby Robson Stand and Sir Alf Ramsey Stand. Does anybody know what the official capacity is now.

I should very much like the club to announce the current capacity as it has clearly been reduced from the 30331, officially stated after the completion of the SIr Bobby Robson stand around 2002.

Since then, seats have been removed to give extra capacity for disabled seating in SIr Bobby Robson and Sir Alf Ramsey (I believe); others for the new dug-outs and to accomodate the new corner entrance and big screen in the summer and another small block of seats in the corner area of the Sir Bobby Robson/Cobbold adjacent to U2. There may be others, but these are the obvious changes I have noticed over the past two decades.

Also, as a secondary question, I should like to know why the Club chooses not to sell seats in the lower Cobbold Terrace below the away supporters (which used to be filled to capacity with away supporters with larger followings) and in the the re-designed corner section of the SIr Alf Ramsey, next to the big screen. I suspect the reason is for some safety/segregation reasons flagged up in a risk assessment, but it is rather sad to see empty seats (representing lost income) where once supporters sat not too many seasons ago. If these seats are no longer to be sold to supporters and left "permanantly" unfilled, the number of affected seats should be removed from the official capacity in my opinion to give a true capacity for our beloved stadium.

I know none of the above truly matters in the scheme of things, but I simply would just like to know the true capacity of Portman Road in 2022.

Blue Monday by far the best podcast, KOA decent too but why are Talking Town even being put forward as not fit to lace the boots of the other two??

@DinDjarin - Malabo is actually the capital of *Equatorial* Guinea. You're thinking of Conakry.

BotesdaleBlue I would also like to know the current capacity. Maybe around the 28000 or 29000 mark given that seats are left empty for away fan segregation as well.
In the fullness of time it would be good to have a complete revamp or replacement of the Cobbold stand. This could include the under utilised space under the new large screen.

But theres the train strike, both sets of fans hit by that

Doesn't matter if there's a train strike and no one can make the match. If the club sells 28346 tickets then that will be the official gate - regardless of who dies or doesn't turn up.

Botesdaleblue the area below the away fans is set aside for away fans with mobility issues. The corner by the screen is now being utilised. Capacity of stands- Sir Bobby 7032, Cobbold 6676 (including the 30 Executive boxes), Sir Alf 7209, Magnus 8756 (this includes all 3 tiers but I don't know if it includes Director's box, players lounge and the 13 Executive boxes!) Which, if my maths is correct, gives a total of 29,673

I always went: SBR = 6500, SAR = 7500, Cobbold upper 5000, lower 2000, Magnus upper 5000 middle 2000 lower 2000, for a total of 30000.
I was in SBR for the recent 25000 game which we were told SBR was sold out.
No way was there 5000 empty seat elsewhere so not sure how they do it.

The overlooked seats are the restricted view ones. If you look at the seat options now they're [just about?] the only ones remaining. When I looked on Tuesday there was only one seat available, on a refresh none. The next day the restricted seats went on sale.

on another note, its amazing how many of our away supporters have bought tickets for the plymouth match, long trek and on sky, respect to those making the trip!

Runner: MattinLondon is right. There's the number of tickets sold (which includes season ticket holders who may not show up) and then there's the "bums on seats" number, i.e. who went through the turnstiles and is physically present in the stadium. There is always going to be a difference between the two numbers. The club is going to publicise the higher number, which will be the tickets sold. So, when you look around the "sold-out" stadium and see plenty of empty seats, take solace in the fact that those seats have in fact been sold, even if they're not being used.

Sunderland at home last season was impacted because of a ig COVID wave, hence the empty seats dotted about.

Given the POPR campaign im a little surprised the number is as low as 25000 to be honest, albeit with a week or more to go. We've had 26.6k at non promotional games so its arguably not much of an uplift....
