Burns Unused Sub For Wales
Sunday, 25th Sep 2022 22:37

Blues wing-back Wes Burns was an unused sub as Wales were beaten 1-0 by Poland at the Cardiff City Stadium this evening.

Burns, 27, didn’t play a minute in either of the two games while away with the Welsh squad, a call which meant he was unavailable for Town’s 2-0 Papa Johns Trophy victory over Arsenal and today’s 2-1 League One loss at Plymouth.

Meanwhile, young Blues central defender Cameron Stewart was also an unused sub as Northern Ireland’s U21s drew 1-1 with their Scotland counterparts in Paisley.

Meanwhile Plymouth's left back announces part time job as part of Wales selection committee...

Exactly! We needed him and we pay his wages. That left back had a fiend day because Jackson's strengths are attacking , not defending. McKenna should have played KVY, he offered both attack and defensive qualities. Wrong selection in my view.

Good. The less Burns plays for Wales, the less likely he is to get injured or worn out.

Well that completes the worst week of our season so far. 5 points dropped, Greg Leigh out for ages, our best player getting messed about with at our expense. Wes needs to get back and rip Portsmouth a new one next weekend!

We can be frustrated, but we can't say that he was messed about with; all squads have players that don't get minutes on the pitch in competitive matches, and to be fair to Wales, Burns is one of the latest to get a call up into a squad that has performed well in recent years.
Plymouth lost one of their best players for the game on Sunday, when Azaz was called up by Ireland u21s; he has scored 5 goals for them already this season, but from what I can make out, he didn't even make the bench for their game ... an under 21 game.

It's a shame for Wes but a blessing for us because with our current rotten luck with injuries he would have come back with one. He is such an important player for us and very difficult to replace. I hope he can channel any frustration he feels into a match winning display against Pompey.

Agree about Jackson attacking but have to say he played well, when he moved to lone striker Plymouth controlled the game, moved him back and we were a different side.

Wrong thing to do by KM but he is still learning the rope as a manager.
